I've been using Cachet for our status page for a long time now but unfortunately it seems to keep getting abandoned and I don't have the skill (or the time) to try to fix the issues in the upstream version that keep causing glitches for us.
Has anyone got any recommendations for good self hosted status page software like Cachet that doesn't depend on being populated by automated monitoring data / similar. I just want a way to post the status myself and show an overview of the various services.

Appreciate you tagging me directly. Have also just seen the report and it's clear the account intentionally mislead our team to get an account created and as you say appears to be creating multiple accounts to haras others.
The account should now be suspended on our side.

We're adding mastodon.cloud to our #Fediblock list due to the instance seemingly being abandoned with open signups and zero moderation. The burden of us suspending accounts locally is not practical when the instance is out of date and not being maintained.
It's been flagged since August last year - https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/115027342813989021 so I don't see it likely that anything is suddenly going to change.

I can tell you it's on a block list we vetted and trust and which documents the steps taken before a server makes it onto the list.
The fact the problematic accounts have been removed is good, I'd suggest the server owner (or a moderator) flags that to @npub1y2r…kvzk so they can then review removing it from the list.
We have our own process for how we handle instances on blocklists with existing follower / following relationships but the vast majority of the instances we block that are on the blocklists we choose to use have no historic interactions.

I can't speak for why it's on that list or why it isn't but it's one of the lists we use for our instances to make federation derisions. It may not be blocked my .social (Nor did I claim it was) but as you aren't a registered user on this instance the reasons are hidden (Which is the reason I've shared in my previous reply).
We do have some instances blocked which don't have reasons attributed, those are ones we imported from the list of domains .social blocked when we first setup our instance.

I suspect those that did for that reason will be pretty disappointed because I'm 99% sure all of our suspends with no reason available were imports from .social's block list when we first setup the server.

Just to say, I'm now suspending any #MedMastodon accounts which are still actively posting. The actual cut off when hosting will stop should be the 5th / 6th by the looks of it so there is still some time to migrate accounts.
Any accounts suspended can appeal the suspension if they want to migrate their relationships and I'll get the account restored.
I'll move my Med-Mastodon account in the next couple of days as well.

For the #MedMastodon community -
I'm sending out an e-mail now, unfortunately despite repeated attempts since the 5th Jan of this year we've been unable to get control of the domain from the original founder of the site.
With that in mind and to ensure the site does not just fall off the internet without warning in the future, we're announcing the closure of med-mastodon.com and are asking all active and registered users to migrate to a new server as soon as it is practical to do so.
We have a new GoToSocial server setup to allow for imports of historic posts as well as our existing Mastodon servers that folks are more than welcome to join (Details on the e-mail).
We will keep the med-mastodon site running throughout March as a minimum and hopefully everyone will have migrated by this time but we will keep a close eye and if needed can renew the site for an additional month to facilitate migrations.
Sorry for the rubbish news, there is not a whole lot more we can do :(

Just to note as well for folks on #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon
I am still looking into this issue with media uploads, I'm so far struggling to pin down a root cause as for most folks it's an intermittent error and I haven't actually found any errors in our logs yet other than what is returned to the apps / clients.
As soon as I can get to the bottom of it I'll get it sorted properly so media uploads work like normal again.

Okay #MedMastodon folks - The instance is now back up and running I'm pleased to share. Things might take a moment to catch-up and I have sent out an announcement so hopefully anyone that had accounts that doesn't see this will get the e-mail ping letting them know everything is currently back online.
I will post a bit more about the plan in the near future but the long story short is nothing is planned to change that folks will see, the main goal for me is to get the site up and running, catch up on the activities that look to be outstanding and get a plan together for migrating everything onto new infrastructure.
Also a huge shoutout to @npub18sk…l2gu who have been excellent at keeping the server "Paused" effectively without deleting data even when there was no confirmed migration path and a real big thanks to Nick for being willing to transfer the server and keep the community running!

As a bit of a different one, I have just had an e-mail from Nick who founded and setup #MedMastodon after I offered to take over the site following it's short notice closure just before the new year, he has come back now to confirm he's happy for me to take on the running the maintenance of the site and has looped in the team from Masto.Host to progress this.
I'm hoping that means we can get the site back up and running in the not too distant future and I'll look to get it migrated over to the same infrastructure that we use for MastodonApp.UK and Universeodon.com to hopefully give some better flexibility for growth and benefit from the existing work and scale in place.
I'll keep folks updated as and when I hear more and as we progress getting the site back online.

I've intentionally not gone to the trouble of getting some of my other sites and services back online outside of #Mastodon with this #Cloudflare outage - Mostly because they aren't super high traffic sites and the effort to go through and disable the CDN / Proxy mode for realistically nobody to probably look at just isn't worth it.
I'll make sure MastodonApp.UK and Universeodon.com are online and available for folks even if images / videos are going to be a bit broken for a moment.

So we think (Ubiquiti haven't responded with a diagnosis) that the issues we're seeing are a result of #Tailscale on the machine, we use Tailscale on our legacy infrastructure and I had it setup to allow everything to easily connect.
I'm going to do some testing shortly when I finish my client work but I'm hoping to switch the two remaining servers over to using a box standard Wireguard VPN which should reduce the issues I'm seeing with the processor capacity on the host. I'm hoping if this is the case we should also hopefully see some improvements to the latency issues we're getting on Universeodon.

I've noticed over the last couple of months a handful of folks that have moved from either #MastodonAppUK or #Universeodon over to Mastodon.Social
If you happen to be one of those folks and you do still follow me or otherwise see this, I'd be really curious to know what prompted you to move your account if you're comfortable sharing. I know there can be all sorts of motivations or reasons and I'd just really like to make sure there isn't anything I can or should be doing that I haven't been to continue making this both a welcoming place for folks to connect with others and more importantly keeping it as safe a place as is possible.

#MastodonAppUK & #Universeodon Members Note:
Just to reassure, I am aware of and monitoring what's happening over on Fosstodon when it comes to their decision to retain a moderator who from what I can see on the Fediblock threads would be problematic. Given the substantial following / followers relationships between the 3 instances (MastodonApp.UK / Fosstodon and Universeodon.com / Fosstodon) I'm waiting to see if there is any further updates / changes in the situation over there as defederating would have a noticeable impact to the community here and I'm very aware that to undo that in the future would be impossible.
I am hoping there is some element of misunderstanding somewhere here and that this can be resolved but if not we will take the appropriate moderation action to protect our members and communities here. I'll keep folks up to date and give plenty of warning before any permanent moderation damage is done.

It certainly feels like a much most constant stream of new accounts or in some cases old accounts getting used for the first time in a couple of years. It's not quite the total and utter chaos 2022 was for me at least where we were seeing thousands of accounts per hour and unable to keep up with demand.

I'm still hopeful Threads will fully follow through on their ActivityPub integration and be inter-operable with Mastodon and other existing software at some point so those of us here can get the full connectivity without needing a threads account and obviously the other way around as well. Currently it's somewhat there but seems to be feature incomplete sadly.

I've enabled it on my instances mostly because it forces instances that do behave and don't try to bypass an instance block to genuinely get blocked / prevent access to posts. I think it also helps if a user blocks a remote server where the remote server will then be rejected further data on their account iirc but that might be wrong. There is a small performance hit with enabling it iirc but I've not noticed anything so bad it's worth disabling it.

Just to explain a little bit about why we're seeing so many issues with #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon - I'm currently in the middle of re-building all of our underlying infrastructure and as a result right now we have a lot more stuff running on the servers we have that aren't being re-built. I've got another server to re-build today and I'm hoping after that I can re-balance some of the services and it should then smooth out the running of the sites a little bit.

I have increased capacity on our content processing service specifically for our ingest processes which are running horribly behind right now.
I suspect it may still be a few hours until we're fully cleared through which may mean you could get notifications for posts that are multiple hours old. I'm really sorry about this and have scaled it as much as I can without causing more things to break!

My apologies for the disruption on both #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon - Juggling things today has been a bit more tricky than I had expected and I ran into a lot more issues than I had expected. It looks like a separate issue then caused major performance issues on one of the underlying servers which happened to have a critical component both for MastodonAppUK and Universeodon on it hence both being disrupted there.
