Fails on the scientific with how much memory and personality is stored physically in the body, Desperate prosaic clumsiness, constantly talking about the character's penis and bodily functions to mke it seem cool. I liked some of the writing, and the story kicks along, but too much that made me go, Meh. Try Emma Newman: Planetfall, Iain Banks: Feersum Endjinn, or ye olde Permutation City by Greg Egan.

What do you need in order to finish your current WIP?
I need to work out the ending. But to do that, I need to work out the middle for the other section of characters. What makes that particular part of the story so compelling? Why does it exist at all? I mean, I know why it's there. It's the bit that reveals the Big Bad's plot, but how do they connect, even if it's in the next book, with the other characters?
A bit lost, so that's going on the backburner.

There used to be sun chasers. Rich folk who travelled to the southern hemisphere for summer, then then to the northern hemisphere for summer, experiencing summer all year round.

@nprofile…c82n But with poker you're not actually playing the cards you draw. The whole point of poker is the bluffing. Even in Blackjack you have the decision to hit or not. If I roll a die five times and you roll a die five times and I win because I rolled higher numbers, that's not a game. If there's some other activity around those rolls and the numbers are used for different things, that's a game. Game design has to balance being able to do things and just blind rolling to win.

@nprofile…5vm9 I find most Western cakes are saturated with so much sugar! Way too sweet. There's a lovely Hungarian walnut cake I used to get in a little shop in London. Been trying to find something like it ever since I moved to Tasmania.

How do you organise your notes? (No notes?)
I used to keep a document of characters that I'd created in alphabetical order, then a separate section for world-building I did on the fly. I now do both of those in the same document with Scribus, along with my entire manuscript with each section labelled at the side so I can find bits easily. That works well for me. I just wish there was a version for android.

Project Hail Mary has some laughs and spectacle. Definitely worth seeing. Still feels a little but the numbers. They're desperate for a big summer blockbuster. This ain't it.

I do not use AI at all, at any stage of writing my books. I have the &udm=14 code in my search engine so I don't even use it for research.

I'd say Ryka Aoki Light from Uncommon Stars, The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley, and Margaret Killjoy's The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion.
