In other news: in my unbelievably cishet, white VERY conservative home town... I hosted my very first queer event the other day.
2 people came. 7 people messaged the page for more info (it's a vetted event for safety). A third were too scared to attend.
Next time we have a few more who said they'd come too!
But god damn, it felt so fucking special hosting this mega radical liberatory space in the middle of the hellscape that is my home town. #LGBTQIA

Ok, seasoned #music listeners:
How do I get better at discovering new music? After switching to #Qobuz , I've kinda stopped using it all together. On Spotify, I used to use its "radio" feature on my playlists. In the old days, I'd discover a fair bit of music through that. More recently not though.
But Desktop Qobuz has no such features, so it has me stuck in my playlists. How do I branch out? I'm lost!!! I dont want my only source of new music discovery to be instagram 😭

as developers, we underestimate the influence we have over the world. City planners and architects dictate how accessible the physical world is, just like developers influence the #accessibility of the internet.
The cruel irony is, a lot of us #disabled folk flock to the internet, as it can be more accessible than irl... Only to be met with the exclusionary architects we sought to avoid.

How some developers react when you talk about accessibility is depressing. Its treated as an unimportant sidequest.
I hate to say, Ive only just started learning about accessibility guidelines. But damn, Im determined to implement them into everything I do now, Including the #FOSS project I'm working on.
I spoke with a maintainer about adding an accessibility feature to their project. They said theyd merge it but only if it was optional? 😫 We can and must do better #disability #programming 1/

Like in this interview Stephen fry basically disavows the trans advocacy charity Mermaids, and he says that he “feels for trans people” but that he knows and loves both trans people and Jk Rowling and that they shouldn’t be at each others throats 🥺 and that they should play nice.

How do my #trans siblings handle allies that you feel aren’t doing enough, but you can see they are trying and want to try?
Idk I’m dealing with something difficult rn. A couple of weeks ago my mom watched that new interview between Stephen Fry and the right wing channel “Triggernometry”.
My mom thought it was a great interview and wanted to watch it with me… it then became very apparent how little she understands what I go through as a trans person, and ngl it really really hurts.

I can help a little with Nursing as well, because I looked into applying for that.
I applied to medical school years ago, ended up going to PA school, but I know a fair bit about the system and would love to help.

One of the most horrific things about being #disabled is it often feels like our effort, our blood sweat and tears counts for fucking nothnig.
We spend a life time burning ourselves out into oblivion, pushing ourselves above and beyond our limits, making ourselves sicker.
We do this to try and get what any other abled person can get with a tenth of the effort. And often times, we don't even get that.
It makes me feel like sometimes I shouldnt even bother.

It's so tiring and upsetting to be living in a world where people are happy, ecstatic even, to catch a disease that could fuck them up for life.
I dont even know what the fuck to do anymore, is everyone really that stupid? I dont understand it.

1. Its NOT like the common cold OR flu (flu is bad enough!!!!)
2. It's airborne
3. Mask the hell up.
4. Dont breathe in people's faces when symptomatic (see .3)

I'm pretty annoyed RE my #COVID infection.... I think I know who I caught it from. A friend of mine spotted me on campus and walked up to me while my mask was off, and by the time he was in my face I realised he had covid symptoms.
Like why do people lack basic fucking germ theory knowledge?! It's 2024, and IMO, its incredibly fucking rude to breathe in the face of anyone while youre symptomatic with any contagious disease!!!!
