The 2026.5 update is now live in the App Store!
It contains big fixes and improvements for transcripts:
- Selectable text
- Better alignment for podcasts that use DAI
- Better performance!

My first update with transcripts is now in the App Store!
It's a phased rollout that will auto-update over the next week for everyone, or you can update manually from the App Store app whenever you'd like.

You Might Also Like: Overcast's new Promos & Reruns filter!
In the latest update, you can now skip reruns of old episodes and promos for other shows ("you might like", “introducing”, etc.) that some podcasts insert into their feeds.
It’s a global setting called Promos & Reruns, and it can be customized per-podcast.
Aaannddd… the number-one customer request:
EPISODE IMAGES! A surprisingly big undertaking, but it's finally here.

Version 2025.11 is now in the App Store! Major changes:
- Brand new downloader for more reliable downloads
- Better streaming, especially in slow or spotty network conditions (it won't kick you out and make you start over on failures anymore)
- Improved Apple Watch background sync and downloads
- Detects if your ad-blocking router, VPN, or DNS is blocking a download and tells you how to fix it
It’s one of those updates with zero new features… but huge upgrades to everyday functionality.

After installing yesterday's update (2025.7), if your changes didn't sync from the last few days, go to:
- Overcast's settings
- Sync Profile
- Refresh All Data

Big 2025.5 update in the App Store today!
- Completely rewrote the Watch app! MUCH faster and more reliable, and should eliminate MANY sync bugs.
- Disabled Lock Screen time-scrubbing by default to reduce accidental seeks (previously in Nitpicky, now in regular settings)
- Chapter rows no longer accidentally activate while scrolling
- Fixed universal links, CarPlay blank screens, certain audio conditions, playlist-reordering bugs
(And opened a restaurant on Fire Island in the meantime. 😉)

Thanks! Honestly, me too. I'd rather see Premium at $20–30/year.
App Store subscriptions can be raised by up to $5/year, once per year, and have all existing subscribers opted IN by default. Raise it by more than that, and everyone is opted OUT by default.
(Apple sends a notification email either way.)
I’ll see how subscriptions go with this change from $10 to $15, but if nothing truly disastrous happens, I may raise it by another $5 next year, then see where we're at.

The price change goes into effect tomorrow (November 21).
New subscribers from then will pay it.

OPML export will be in the next update. Almost made it into yesterday's, but I wanted to do it better.
The previous app would generate the XML server-side. But what if my servers are all down, or there's some horrible disaster and my back-end service is gone, or you launch a very old version of the app on a very old device that can't communicate with the current API?
The new version will generate the OPML entirely on-device, even if it can't reach my servers.

My 2024.9 update is out, and swiping is back on the now-playing screen!
Swipe between the artwork page and the new chapters/info combo page. It fits WAY more info on screen than the old app, and it feels so good!
Also:
- Swipe left to download an episode
- New iOS 18 dark and color-tinted icons
- Download All Episodes option in playlist menu
- Fixed Episode Limit enforcement

And when continuous-play failed, what was the result?
Did it kick you all the way out of playback and clear the current episode, leaving nothing playing?
Or did it load the next episode but just not begin playing it?

Getting reports of continuous play not working reliably with the latest update. I haven't been able to reproduce it yet. If this happens to you, can you tell me:
- Which podcasts and episodes, if you recall any specifics?
- Streamed or already downloaded?
- Were you playing from a playlist or a podcast's screen?
- Were you playing via AirPlay, or another output type?
- Do you use Play Top Episode Next or Skip Outro?

Version 2024.8.2 is now live in the App Store:
STREAMING IS BACK!
Also in this update:
- Smart Speed now displays its current speed
- Podcasts can now have different sort order for Unplayed and All modes

In today's update (2024.8.1):
- Manage Storage
- Bug fixes, including 24-hour-auto-delete mode
- Seek back/forward buttons on the miniplayer
And by popular demand, the third button on the bottom of now-playing is now the Sleep Timer! (Sleep-timer custom intervals are also better now.)
The "i" button is now in the upper-right. (Tapping the artwork also still brings up info mode.)
I hear your feedback and am experimenting with other options for mode-switching the playback screen. Stay tuned.
