it's been a nice experience so far - no complaints about the operations for keeping Mastodon up to date, it's been painless.
That even ~200GB of storage isn't enough for a single person instance is what's driving me away. I haven't uploaded a single photo in weeks because there is no space left on my server and I don't want to pay for more space that I can't use anyway.

as with all "nuggets" if it makes sense in a context you're in, it might be useful to you, else ignore.
I like your interpretation, though I was thinking of something entirely else in my own life (work/finances).
To answer the first question: when hopeful, one might not put in the full effort they can muster. Post hope, there's not much to lose, allowing to unshackle oneself from hangups and get shit done.

Cold/flu symptoms are progressing. Bocked nose, itchy throat etc. It's been long since I have had a flu - probably first time since 2019 (yep).
Cleared up the nose with steam from home-grown herbs!
I know these plants as nirgudi and adulsa. Both have grown into large shrubs and I loved to pick medicine for myself from the garden, with much gratitude to these beautiful plants.

Yup, I sometimes nudge bad drivers to do the right thing (and let me have a few inches of space in my own lane) by pointing the bike directly at the driver for a moment - wakes them up faster than a red bull 😅

I've had the Insta360 X3 action camera for almost a year now, and I just spent a while scrolling through all the YT shorts I've uploaded.
These are ones I published despite the resistance from my own brain claiming they're not good enough - but they've served their real purpose - reliving a year's worth of riding and watching the landscape change during and after wildfires, seeing my skills improve - in minutes!
I'm promising myself to do more of this.

*nods* I've been tinkering with "AI" since A.L.I.C.E. bot was a thing and have made many assistant bots for myself over the years - so the initial hype was *very* exciting.
But it didn't take long to try it out and realize that today's AI is pretty impressive autocomplete, and it can be used in several niche places, but it's still autocomplete - not intelligence.

Here's where I'm reminded that I chose to live outside cities so I must continue to pay in unexpected ways:
I cannot have my lost phone's SIM replaced until I personally visit one of the branches of the telco in a big city - it's a whole day's journey from my little farm deep in the hills.
"We don't service post-paid cards here, please go to the nearest $brand store" and that was that.
And my bank sends OTPs for _any_ online transaction *only* over SMS. Until I make the trip, I am stuck.

Last few days it did not rain, the tomatoes loved that!
I've lost all my tomatoes so far to blight as the spores get kicked up to underside of leaves along with soil by frequent rains, and soon the whole plant wilts.
This season I've been trimming lower leaves, applying homemade curd on the cuts when trimming in wet weeks and spraying whey on young fruits. The plants have come further than previous tries.
