People compare Nostr apps to social apps without realizing the underlying engineering problem is fundamentally different. Centralized apps retrieve state from a controlled database. Nostr clients derive state from fragmented, delayed, duplicated, and potentially adversarial event networks. The fact that good Nostr apps can feel simple is a testament to how difficult the underlying architecture actually is.

You shouldn’t put one event in an OP_RETURN though. You should batch them. Or give users option to include in next batch for a small cost. This allows users to timestamp important notes if they want to.

Gotcha. Wasn’t really familiar with Satshoot’s code so I guess that was a dumb question.
Looks cool. There’s a bunch of people working on escrow type systems I believe but I’ve never seen this one before.
The issue I have with escrow at small scales is it seems like a solution to solve trust of someone else which involves trust of yet another party.

Also… no shame in pricing in USD short term. BTC-based economic activity at scale becomes the volatility buffer we need… even if priced in USD. The dollar remains, for now, the best instrument to predict future cash flows of your business. We need Bitcoin-based merchants to stay in business first and survive volatility, then we chip away at the unit of account as we dampen the volatility transaction by transaction.

Bitcoin doesn’t prove anything about physical time. That’s like saying a clock proves that minutes and seconds exist. You’re just making units that are useful for something.
The problem quantum solves is breaking static keypairs. There’s no time element. It doesn’t matter what the block height is.

There’s a strange thing that happens when you get really good at something.
You stop focusing on the work itself, and you start noticing the people around you.
You start seeing who actually knows what they’re doing—and who’s just… performing competence. Saying the right things, packaging ideas cleanly, nodding along in ways that sound intelligent enough to pass. And the unsettling part is: it works. It works on everyone else who’s also playing the same game.
But if you’ve been on the receiving end of real consequences—missed calls, bad decisions, things that actually affect people’s businesses, livelihoods, stress, families—you can’t unsee it.
So you sit there, in rooms full of people who sound confident, and you feel insane.
At the same time, you feel like the only sane person in the room.
I can’t tell if that’s a blessing or a curse.
What’s weirder is that, over time, the few other “real” ones start to notice you. There’s this quiet recognition. And also a kind of tension—because people are a little afraid of someone who can see through the game. Who can see the edges, the gaps, the consequences.
And then there’s the part that really messes with you:
What if you got this good at something you don’t even love?
You know your decisions matter. You know you can make things better, or at least less broken. But you’re not drawn to the work itself—you’re just pulled along by the weight of its impact.
So you end up in this loop:
Frustrated by people who don’t get it.
Aware that the stakes are real.
Unsure if you’re even in the right room.
And then you start wondering—
Maybe it’s not this room.
Maybe it’s all rooms.
Maybe most systems are just… this. A loose network of people, many of them guessing, held together by structure, momentum, and just enough competence to keep things moving forward.
And somehow—it works.
I don’t fully understand how.
I’m not even sure what the conclusion is here.
Just… a strange place to find yourself.

Honestly not sure if the “completely hosted on Nostr” part is real, since most people use a webhosted client, but this much is true:
Your npub is already your store and all products are NIP-99 events. Your checkout flow is contained in NIP-17 messages, and payments can be e-cash straight to your npub (or Lightning, or whatever you and the buyer agree to really).
So effectively the entire flow is on relays, checkout is P2P, and it’s interoperable so it doesn’t matter what webhost your npub/store and products are found on… customers always connect directly with you.
