The universe begins with a (mostly) homogeneous soup of sub-atomic particles that are far too hot and have far too much energy to be able to form stable atoms, not even simple ones like hydrogen -- they'd get blasted apart again just as fast as they formed. It takes some expanding and cooling until heat/energy levels drop low enough for electrons to start orbiting protons and form atoms. (Not even protons could exist in the *extremely* early universe -- fundamental quantum particles coming together to form protons, neutrons, and others would have been quite the development just a bit earlier in expansion.)

The sound waves in this very early universe (called baryon acoustic oscillations) went on to develop into the high and low density parts of the universe. They effectively 'froze' in place once the gas became too sparse to carry sound waves, and the pressure waves that were left at that moment formed regions of high and low pressure, high and low density. High density areas formed more stars and more galaxies (and attracted more dark matter) than low density areas. The sound waves in the early universe are actually what created the large-scale structure of the universe as we know it today.
And that's not just hypothetical speculation. These wave patterns have been detected and have been known for decades. Yes, the early gas-filled universe was very loud -- and we can still see that today!

Safe or not, I don't want my nostr keys bound to any Google account. I hate Google. I want to remove them entirely from my ecosystem.
I want my desktop to be able to sign events for applications on my desktop. 😂 No server involvement or online activity except the client which is gated by signature requests.

All of this is true- and it's a nightmare for a junior developer who wants to start small and build a simple, standalone desktop client for nostr.
I am certain it can be done better (in relation to simply plugging authorization into any app) but I won't be the one to create a security hole and risk people's nsecs. It's not my domain at all, so I wouldn't want to slop a solution out to the public.
Remote signing is an overly-complex solution for what is effectively a miniscule problem. It has its place, I'm sure, but not in relation to accessibility and convenience.
But I don't claim to have all of the answers.
We can see the new trend of securing one's nsec with Google popping up as well.

Oh yeah and also the third option (see Damus or notedeck) which stores the nsec for you.
Clearly a security oversight but one that some developers have accepted as it disenfranchises standalone signing and allows the app to bypass any inconveniences related to standalone signers.

If you want to sign an event on desktop, you either use a browser or remote signing.
No one explicitly said it- but it's the standard for the protocol.
I don't know enough about perfect encryption across all operating systems to say what's best or not, but the current paradigm is rather unfriendly to users and devs alike, unless you accept remote signing as a solution, which plenty of people would rather not use.
