In a survey of 25 countries, the United States was the only county in which more adults describe the morality of their compatriots as bad than good. 53% of respondents said that the morality and ethics of other people in their country is either somewhat or very bad. Since this is a new question for Pew Research, the team says they don't know whether this is a long-held view or something new. A million miles away in sentiment, but just kilometres away geographically, 92% of Canadians think other Canadians are either very good or somewhat good.

There typically isn't much conversation/dialogue with publishers because they use RSS to add their content to Flipboard. However one advantage is that their content is typically organized topically into Magazines (for example, [@theverge](https://flipboard.com/@theverge ) is the main account, whereas [@science-news-theverge](https://flipboard.com/@theverge/science-news-itqojh86z ) is just the science coverage). That means your entire feed won't be flooded with every single thing an outlet publishes if you follow the account and you can just check out the things you're interested in.

It was a dead heat in our poll on news sharing on social media: 37% said they what they want, to everyone and 37% said they limit sharing according to the audience/platform. One-quarter of respondents don't share news on social media. In the comments, there were references to sharing via text, and to sharing freely, but not on standard corporate social media (we love you, #fediverse!).

How do conspiracy theories develop and proliferate, and what are the best tactics to quash them? Extensive research focused on Europe, led by a team at King's College London, indicates that it depends where you are. In the U.K., concerns over COVID lockdowns led to conspiracy theories about restriction of movement in "15-minute cities." In the Baltic states, fear of hidden elites is fueled by memories of Nazi and Soviet occupation.
"These ideas are spreading in all parts of society. If we want to tackle the problem of conspiracy theories, it’s not enough to turn off a particular pipeline, such as putting restrictions on a specific social media platform or shutting down someone’s account," says Professor Clare Birchall, who led the research. "We need to think about structural problems in society as well as the business models of platforms. And instead of focusing on why people don’t trust institutions and politicians, we should work on making them worthy of trust."

Teen Vogue, which had in the last decade become known as a place for young people to get their political news, is folding into Vogue.com and its editor, Verna Sharma, is stepping down. Here's the official announcement. It makes no reference to whether politics reporting will continue, sating: "As a dedicated pillar on Vogue, Teen Vogue will focus its content on career development, cultural leadership and other issues that matter most to young people, according to the publication." Lex McMenamin, the magazine's only politics reporter, announced on Bluesky earlier today that she has been laid off, along with multiple other staffers.
