This confirms my comment to some extent as it also explains why the language of “unscrewing” is not appropriate. I would concede that if the lancets of the stinger are not deep enough for the barbs to gain traction then the bee can often live to fight another day. I have kept bees in the past and have observed some unenthusiastic stings!

Also untrue. Honeybees cannot unscrew their stings because their stingers don’t have a helical structure. They can remove their stings if they have stung another insect however. A nice story but not a true one. The fatal sting evolved for a reason. If the stings were not fatal more honey bees would die defending the colony.

Thanks. I’m in Europe so a pinch of salt is required. There’s a lot of overlap in species, but still. By substrate I mean what’s it growing on or what are the nearby trees? Is it near an oak or a pine or a beech for example? If you were in europe I’d stick with my id (spore print was important) but even so I am 85-90% sure it’s in the armillaria genus (honey fungus) though. If the ask is practical rather than mycological, you only need to get down to genus level to take measures. Hope that’s slightly helpful!?

It’s worth reminding ourselves that when the building in question was completed we already had microscopy, telescopy, telegraphy and electricity. Maxwell’s discovery of the laws of electromagnetism and the constant speed of light, radio communication, electrification and cinema were only a decade or so away. This was certainly the modern era and they had rather sophisticated methods of measurement and computation. They obviously couldn’t have yet developed the transistor, the large hadron collider or the James Webb telescope, but they certainly were not primitive in their understanding of the laws of nature and their applications. If you wished to strong arm the argument, you would need to select an older exemplum; Cologne cathedral for example. The answer I suspect would be less concerned with the supposed technological superiority of the Medieval mind and more to do with the sort of things bitcoiners tend to worry about such as high and low time preferences and monetary debasement. If you have 300 years to build something, you can make it really nice!

It's a trivial proof to dissambiguate planar and spherical triangles and has been perfomed many times since Girard's time. The theorem (A=R2(α+β+γ−π)) requires that the sum of the internal angles of a spherical triangle must exceed 180 degrees if that triangle is to have a positive area.
So... Draw a triangle (ABC) on the surface of the earth. Let the triangle be as large as possible, with each side several hundred km long. Measure the internal angles of the triangle you have constructed and find the sum. Is it greater than 180 degrees? If so, you have demonstrated that the triangle is spherical. If not, you have proven that the triangle is planar.
It's worth pointing out that this procedure can only prove that the surface of the earth is spherical but cannot distinguish between the earth either being a complete sphere or an incomplete arc/portion of a sphere.

A normative claim that privacy is the only salient consideration when evaluating whether one should adopt a monetary network. I suspect you protest too much.
