Moonfire @nprofile…awd8 One of those sites is on my list of "I want to write" but I need finish some of my projects first. :) npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire @nprofile…d6ag The "unique user names" is a great idea, but so many sites require emails to use and then prevent you from using "plus codes" to create a distinct email. It is frustrating because I like using [email protected] as my email but so many places say the +ba49d4bf is invalid. Side note, google also lets you to use plus codes in your email. So you can add arbitrary stuff after the + and it still works. npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire Figured out how to get a Radicle node set up on my servers. I was surprised there was no human front end in NixOS, but I don't see a lot of directions of how to get the explorer working on either NixOS or Arch (which is where I got most of the directions). I'm assuming that and radicle-desktop just haven't migrated over as packages. I still threw up fiss on it to try it out since it's a public project and something I can happily play with (plus, it is for writing task lists using forges, so if I'm going to use it, I need to be able to hook up Radicle's issues to fiss). https://app.radicle.xyz/nodes/radicle.mfgames.com/rad:zuM3HbCx2aaqC3ZcDjMU1zoxbzUn Which means it should be cloneable with: rad clone rad:zuM3HbCx2aaqC3ZcDjMU1zoxbzUn Looks like something that might be idly fun to play with, but I'm also interested in distributed forges that use did's for identifying instead of specific servers and remotes and identities. #Radicle #NixOS https://polymaths.social/fileserver/02028RGH9RBCV3JVG2D3DQ2XPS/attachment/original/01KFQGZZG5DN8NC6CZD8WE624P.png npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire @nprofile…u76z @nprofile…d6ag You two are destroying my dreams, or at least that vague hope of finally being "good enough." Eh, I'll find a new success metric. npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire @nprofile…7vxc I kind of feel that the "!A" and "!J" would be confusing looking at that documentation. But yeah, "#" for "≠" would be on par for his sense of humor. He used to have long talks about how to pronounce "/usr/bin" because it should be /ˈbaɪn/ (hard I) because it was short for binary (/ˈbaɪ.nə.ɹi/) but most folks pronounce it /bɪn/. He was very deliberate and I loved that about him (most of the time :P). He is also the one who taught me to call "!" "bang" because it was an exclamation. :D npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire Yesterday, one of my dad's fellow scientist was doing a major update on dad's code. He sent me an email giving my condolences and talked a little bit about how dad's programs are still in use at the APS program at Argonne. https://kenevans.net/EPICS/EPICS.html https://epics.anl.gov/extensions/medm/index.php That was nice to hear. I miss him. npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire This is an #amwriting type of question, but what is a good way of finding beta readers? I don't have that much of an audience (though anyone who follows me is welcomed to raise their hand) but I'd like a few folks to give me an alpha read (before the editor) and give me rough ideas if the plot and pacing work, if the characters are interesting, or the "broad strokes" are right. I'd go through the writing group, but there is no way I can have everything done before my arbitrary deadline (published and in my hand on September 23, 2025; this means I need to be starting the editing process by the end of July) so I'd like folks who are willing to read the entire thing and give me opinions, or tell me when and why they DNF'd it (if they do). Boosts are welcome. npub13w48m44q3nt6j7adytnduw6nekcn5zv9vuxqfr0rkrs4cn3k7s8sacn44v D. Moonfire Today's half hour standup took 1.8 hours.
