New research has found that oil giant Shell paid £0 in tax on their UK oil and gas production.
Instead they were net beneficiaries, pocketing £100m in handouts from the UK government.
The likes of Norway and the US gained £17bn in tax from the firm over the same period.

The UK Foreign Office unit tracking potential breaches of international law by Israel in Gaza and more recently Lebanon has been closed!
Officials have been warned the closure of the Conflict and Security Monitoring project will mean the Foreign Office will lose access to a database of 26,000 verified incidents in the Middle East.

The English water companies have told the govt that to fix the infrastructure problems they will have to increase prices to customers.
Just worth remembering that Scottish Water – which is publicly owned – has invested nearly 35 per cent more per household in infrastructure since 2002 than the privatised English firms, charging 14 per cent less and not paying out dividends.

Out of ALL the nations of the world, 203 (all but 6) emit under 2% of global emissions.
- If global aviation were a nation it would be the #6 top emitter after China, the US, India, Russia, and Japan.
- The richest 1% of humans contribute 50% of all flying emissions! It is an incredibly privileged act.
As for Bitcoin, if it were a country, it emits more CO2 than 179 (86%) of the world's nations.

It's 1987. The Metropolitan Police are waging an intimidation campaign against London's LBTQ+ community.
Wearing rubber gloves to "protect from AIDS" they raid the Royal Vauxhall Tavern

Now why would #Reform be interested in making the UK health system more like the (failed) US system?
It is initially surprising that the US system might be a favoured destination. But there is a dimension, which is not a concern to UK taxpayers or patients but is vitally important to other stakeholders: PROFIT.
The US system is particularly good as a profit generator.
Estimates suggest that the profit opportunity available to healthcare corporations if the UK adopted the US system is of the order of $28 Billion per annum.
So, using this approach, this Reform government could reduce the effectiveness of our health system (earlier deaths), and reduce efficiency (for higher costs), whilst making a nice little profit for themselves and their mates.

This photo shows two power linemen, Randall Champion and J. D. Thompson, at the top of a utility pole. They had been performing routine maintenance when Champion brushed one of the high voltage lines at the very top. Over 4000 volts entered Champion’s body and instantly stopped his heart (an electric chair uses about 2000 volts). His safety harness prevented a fall, and Thompson, who had been ascending below him, quickly reached him and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He was unable to perform CPR given the circumstances, but continued breathing into Champion’s lungs until he felt a slight pulse, then unbuckled his harness and descended with him on his shoulder.
Thompson and another worker administered CPR on the ground, and Champion was moderately revived by the time paramedics arrived, eventually making a full recovery.

Yesterday, while much of the city was wrapped up in its own celebrations, Portlands Fish & Chips quietly did something extraordinary. Instead of closing its doors, the Sefton Street chippy opened them wide, making sure nobody in the community was left alone on Christmas Day.
Led by Mubinul Hoque, free hot meals were offered to NHS staff, carers, key workers, older residents and anyone spending the day by themselves. No conditions, no publicity stunt, just warmth, generosity and time for a chat when it mattered most.
This was Liverpool at its very best yesterday. An independent business giving back out of gratitude and belief, proving that kindness and community still sit at the heart of the city.

One of the biggest mis-statements from COP26 is "50% of the carbon reductions needed to get to net zero will come from technologies that have not yet been invented"
This is rank, arrant nonsense. It is exacly the same as saying, "I can continue smoking 40 a day, because Doctors will find a cure for cancer."
I wonder who would propose such an idiotic idea? The answer, my friends is the fossil fuel industry! Yes. They are stating that they are working hard on 'new' technologies to capture carbon. If these, mythical and unproven, technologies work, then we can happily continue using fossil fuels in the knowledge that this will all be fixed 'sometime' in the future.
Gosh. We are so lucky that Exxon, BP and Shell are looking out for us, and we don''t have to do a single thing. Just keep using their products as we do today, without change. Because it will all be OK, at some stage in the future (maybe).

Just in case you didn't realize it before - there are 3 major religions in this world that all follow the same God but have different interpretations of wtf happened after they split from the original texts. Their God didn't change, they just did.
The first one decided that they're right, and no other prophets came along after their prophets.
The second one said, "we accept most of your religion but this guy showed up and he's the son of God"
The third one said, "Look, we're all brothers, that guy was cool but he wasn't the son of God. We have a new prophet and we got an updated rulebook from God and we're gonna follow that."
Now all 3 of them (plus the 4 versions of the first one, the 6 versions of the second one and 7 versions of the 3rd one) all argue about who's right - and have spent centuries letting political leaders use their faith to inspire each other to kill one another for their faith.

"Back to work today, forgot my pass so locked bike outside Cannon Street station. Left work at 6pm to find just the cut lock and no bike, resigned to never seeing my trusty stead again asked the station if they have cameras. A guy appeared waving at me, asked me to put the code into my cut lock. He replied ‘I have your bike’ with a smile I will never forget!! His name is Abdul Muneeb and he works for South Eastern Railways, he was on a break and saw a guy bolt cut the lock and challenged him to give it back, he then took it inside and waited 4 hours after his shift finished to personally make sure I got my bike back. The world needs more Abdul’s, he is a legend of a man and a credit to his employer."

This has got to be one of the best. In Wales, UK, there is a legal requirement for road signs to be in both English and Welsh. So, in this case, the official of the Highways department emailed the English wording to the translator and, after receiving a reply, proceeded to have the sign made and installed.
Unfortunately, a few weeks later, Welsh-speaking drivers began to call up to point out that the Welsh reads..... "I am currently out of the office. Please submit any work to the translation team."

The US yet again vetoed a UN resolution demanding an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip, following a vote in the Security Council on Thursday.
“The negative vote was cast as the 15-member Council held its 10,000th meeting against the backdrop of famine spreading in the besieged enclave and an ongoing Israeli offensive to take full control of Gaza City.

Yesterday my daughter emailed me, asking why I didn't do something useful with my time.
Talking about "doing-something-useful" seems to be her favorite topic of conversation.
She was "only thinking of me," she said, and suggested that I go down to the Senior Center and hang out with some of the other old fellows.
So I did this and when I got home last night, I decided to play a prank on her. I emailed her and told her that I had joined a Parachute Club.
She replied, "Are you nuts? You are 71 and now you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?"
I told her that I even got a Membership Card and e-mailed a copy to her.
She immediately telephoned me and yelled, "Good grief, Dad, where are your glasses?! This is a Membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club."
"Oh man, I'm in trouble again," I said. "I really don't know what to do. I signed up for five jumps a week!!"
The line went dead.
Life as a Senior Citizen is not getting any easier, but sometimes it can be fun.
