Listening to @npub1rcn…dw4h and @npub1fmx…wp74 talk about AI development and their “aha!” moments is fascinating compared to when I was on the show in April.
Showing them “podcast power” (back then) these systems were still struggling to get a working prototype. 8 Months have come a long way.

What a shortsighted take on how any project should be evaluated of its merit.
Whether it’s software app or a local community cleanup in the neighborhood you live in.
It was a spark to innovate; built on the fundamentals of open source in code and in collaboration.
A formal, broad sweeping approach to standards and inclusion are slow moving features of bigger projects.
Bigger projects don’t hit the ground running with all of that overhead from the starting line.

i disagree with your assumptions on my use of YouTube ;)
My debate isn’t *just* about open source vs closed source. It’s about being a bit more positive on the initiatives (and accomplishments) of podcasting 2.0.
The dismissal of the efforts drive me mad. And there won’t be broader adoption if the hive moves in that direction.
But this debate is better served on a podcast than a threaded list of text!

and a further point on YouTube vs all: I think YouTube should be leveraged like any other platform.
Do I publish there? Yes. Do I gain from their algo. Yes. But I also maintain the podcast, RSS feed, blog, and newsletter.
I don’t think I’m wrong for being everywhere and wanting my open platforms to be the source of truth.
(Sorry James, no rant video for you 😂)

to be fair he wrote and recorded audio. I wrote and recorded a video response, becasue I don’t have a podcast component to this blog.
Maybe it’s a coin flip, maybe it’s catching me on the last straw, I see far too many criticisms of the project itself— when indeed it should have been titled: How Podcast Apps are Failing Us
This is the same argument I’ve seen for WordPress for the last 10 yrs. Slow, boring, outdated. But there’s a whole 3rd party ecosystem making it better.

it’s becasue I don’t have a podcast for this channel. I also wrote words and sent a newsletter :)
The title is the first jab, where you actually should have went with the one you suggested in the opening.
P2.0 has given apps the opportunity to improve, along with hosts.
Oh, also, the loose initiave also helped bring (brought?) transcripts to Apple. 🤷

I tested @npub10ex…f560 for a month and would say roughly ~5% of my plays would either not download, slow download, or pause at the end and remain incomplete.
It was a nag for sure. If I wasn’t alone, I’m sure that was big feedback.

Another episode of In and Around Podcasting, another industry insider who wants everything Podcasting 2.0 provides without saying it.
Dancing around the desire for transparency, metrics, choice -- and somehow the ad industry is going to lead this? Frustrating.
You don’t have to be all in, but at least acknowledge there’s an open alternative.
