Overall ride quality is excellent compared to to the Xtrap100 (low bar but still). Like, I’m standing up while typing this and I don’t need to hold on to anything even through the rougher bits.
Seats do have foam, unlike some newer trams, but it’s *firm*. Probably comfortable enough for the sort of journeys this thing is designed for.

In amongst all of the excitement is a small smattering of regular passengers, utterly bewildered at stepping onto an Upfield Line train at 10am on a Sunday that is not only packed, but filled with the exact same energy as a school classroom on the last day before holidays.

There is so much joy and jubilation on this train. People are laughing and chatting. One person is playing a train-related song on their phone and singing along with their friends (behaviour I wouldn’t normally countenance, but this is a special occasion).
And then amidst the sea of happiness, two Authorised Officers with the surliest, most miserable facial expressions you could imagine.

Okay, the acceleration is much smoother now. I know they did a bunch of testing with concrete blocks before they but the seats in, but I’m not sure if that was the weight of a crush load, and this is certainly the first time it’s had this many actual humans in it.

There is so much autism and so much expensive photography equipment on this train.
A little bit of side to side rocking on the Flinders Street Viaduct but we’ll only really know if Alstom can build a train that doesn’t feel like a roller coaster when we get past North Melbourne and start picking up speed

Reflx Lab have regular Vision3 with the remjet washed off as well as the AHU ones for about US$13/roll, plus flat US$5 shipped worldwide
Not sure what film prices are like over there, but that works out to ~AU$20 which is roughly what I’d pay for a 36exp roll of an Ilford B&W stock here

One of the things I’ve realised recently about generative AI is that it’s not actually a nose beans situation.
If the genAI does what it is supposed to do, the bosses can lay off workers. If the genAI doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, the bosses can lay off workers on the pretence that it does, insulate themselves from accountability for the resulting short-term failures in a million different ways, and then re-hire those same workers for less pay and worse conditions.
genAI doesn’t have to actually be good for it to be useful to the capital class, and they know this.

Has anyone else noticed that in corporate/tech spaces, there’s a tendency to capitalise basically any proper noun that’s 4 letters or less as if it’s an acronym, regardless of whether it is or not?
I’ve noticed this with stuff like product names (e.g. we have an internal product called “Ink”, which is just called that because it’s for writing stuff, but people call it “INK” all the time assuming it’s an acronym) but this morning I saw someone do it with the name of a person…

Sometime just after 4:35pm Pittsburgh time tomorrow (Sunday—I think it's still Saturday there as I write this), I was supposed to walk on stage at @npub1l9a…yneh and receive the Community Service Award.
I won't be doing that in person, because I'm transgender, and the event is in the US.
My AU passport has an X gender marker, so I can't even get an ESTA or visitor visa to enter the US, and even if I could it is a country that is even more wildly unsafe for people like me than it was a year ago.

no idea; firmware modding is one of those things that I am vaguely aware of the existence of, but not something I'm willing to risk bricking my daily driver camera for. (And none of my old cameras happen to be ones that people have modded, alas.)
That said, if I saw a toot from Luna one day saying that she'd made some kind of firmware mod for a newer camera that nobody has ever modded before, I'd be very seriously impressed but not even remotely surprised

Im generally pretty sour on the whole LLM/genAI hype train, but one area where I genuinely think it has promise is *parsing* natural language.
For instance, LLMs seem to be WAY better at parsing instructions than eg current Siri, and while I don’t care for the generative bits of “Apple Intelligence” I’m looking forward to Siri improvements.
Also I’d love a tool that can take an booking confirmation page or a text from a friend make a calendar entry, and LLMs seem to be very good at that.
