The majority of people is not thinking enough about Bitcoin - and it shows.
Furthermore:
Generally, the majority prefers to outsource their thinking - and that shows too.
Which - again - might make you feel “superior” for a brief moment… until you realize what this really means for you:
That those who blindly trust in “authority” and the (perceived) majority opinion of the herd are willing to believe - and do - anything, no matter how irrational it may seem to you.
And we’ve been shown that, too, in recent years — with a vengeance.
And that should make you feel pretty anxious.
At which point you either tell yourself - for your own sanity - “it’s not that baaad” and try to deny this part of our shared reality...
Or you accept this circumstance - and do everything within your abilities to reduce the negative impact the crowd’s insanity might have on you and your inner circle.
Will it be enough?

Good & insightful entry which matches with personal experience shared by other node operators.
Unless you:
- run a business (where the LN Node is just a part of your infrastructrue)
- are a passionate hobbyist and/or put great value on privacy/self-sovereignty
...running a Lightning Routing Node as "profitable undertaking" is definitely not worth it.
You must have some other purpose or ways to "gain value" from it to justify the risks, costs and resource allocation to it.

Disclaimer:
As things change on here by the week, as a "non-power user" one is certainly quickly falling behind, so the following statement might be already outdated.
With that said:
While Primal seems to have - currently - the best UX ( you can read most notes and loading times are fast - which is not necessarily true for some other interfaces such as Snort or Iris)... when it comes to "ZAP"ping, it seems that it simply is not possible if you follow standard Bitcoin security practices.

As in:
You never (as in: NEVER!) have the ability to sign transactions on the same device that you use to browse the Internet.
Currently - it seems - "zap"ping on Primal requires either the Primal Wallet/App ( I use a Browser and keep any apps on my phones to an absolute minimum - hence not an option ) and or NWC... which also requires signing capability on the same device that you use to browse the Internet.
On some of the other Nostr clients it is possible to zap from a different device - you can press the "zap" button, obtain a QR code/Lightning invoice... and then simply scan the QR code from a separate dedicated device connected to a dedicated node.
Browsing and transaction signing capabilities clearly separated.
Currently Primal makes it easy if you are fine to ignore these iron security rules - but also leads to more Sats being held in a closed ecosystem/custodial where... it is absolutely not necessary (imho).
The current way the Zap mode on Primal is provided is not interoperable with any other Lightning wallet (and/or node!) - it requires you to have Sats on your Primal Wallet and/or NWC... on the same device that you use to browse the Internet.
Some (most?) people might just not care, but it's currently the "main blocker" in my personal Primal UX.
I do not want to install an app.
I do not want to install a Browser extension.
Kim Jong Un wants me to press the button - and I do not want to press it.
Yes, it is paranoid.
But as the old saying goes:
"Only the paranoid survive".
Or the recent beautiful iteration of it by @nprofile…ls58 :
"Systems that heavily rely on trust have the best UX until they have the worst UX."
Currently on Primal, if I want to zap someone - I need to load the note via a different interface... and hope, that I can even load the note.
At which point - unless I really, really want to zap the person - the drop-off rate increases drastically and the Zap will not take place.
With that said:
All of this might have already been solved at the time of writing - and I just haven't discovered yet how to do so.
If so, feel free to call me out as a noob'ish Nostr laggard - and lmk how to zap on Primal from a different device than the one used to browse the internet.

Highly agreed.
People would like to see everything just "going their way" without doing any work for it to make it to bring it about.
It is a comforting thought... but also not a very realistic one.
If you want to move the world closer to the direction of your liking, you must put in the work.
And with that said:
It will always be a small minority who are active players and shape the world around us, have an impact rather than remaining on the passenger seat of life.
It's those we must connect with and focus on rather than some blurry vision of "mass adoption" (which is mostly driven by NGU fantasies).
We have 2024.
Everybody has heard about Bitcoin by now and if they're still not on board, they might just not be the people who are ready & well-qualified to be part of an impactful minority.

It's not "constraints", but commitments.
An inability to commit generally leads to no happy outcomes.
And people in this day and age are generally quite fearful of committing themselves fully to a choice.
But:
To achieve specific goals requires that very commitment.

One of the challenges on a Bitcoin standard is that very few investments make financial sense.
As long as Bitcoin remains in its monetization phase, it will likely continue to outperform almost every other investment you could consider in terms of risk-reward ratio.
It is exceptionally difficult to find investments that have a reasonable chance to yield a positive ROI when measured in BTC.
The only outliers might be some successful, high-flying startups, but those come naturally with a high risk of failure.
Otherwise, unless a business can consistently achieve growth of 50%+ per year, it's tough to justify allocating any capital to it.
Some potential "non-monetary" justifications to invest regardless:
a) you treat these investments as "insurance" in case Bitcoin fails
An insurance generally COSTS money, but provides you with downside protection.
b) If investing into startups, beyond the pure monetary return:
You get something out of it beyond a pure "financial investment.
- e.g. you gain closer practical expertise/insight into a general sector worthwhile paying attention to
- you have the ability to work with some of the brightest and dynamic minds and "level up" your own expertise
- the start-up is building solutions complimentary to your own core business (hence: strengthening your own business positioning alongside on a mutually beneficial basis)
- stuff "you want to see exist/happening" (which is almost semi-altruistic motive)
These factors might make investing outside the Bitcoin realm worthwhile, despite the significant risks involved.

With that said, being more cautious in allocating capital is NOT a negative thing.
It encourages savings by only allocating capital to actually viable business models.
Very different from investing on a fiat standard where you can spray your $$$ around wildly and still "be profitable", especially since on a weak money standard blowing (& bursting) bubble investments are highly encouraged.
While few things are built to last and the capital stock of society is eroded along the way...

There are still gems of content on Twitter/X, but they are basically invisible.
Even though I go to their timeline ~once a week to check out some of their latest thoughts, they will never show in my TL.
From my usage it should be pretty clear that I like to see more of their stuff, alas... they won't ever show up unless I specifically go to their profile.
"The Algo will just show you more of what you already like!" - yeah, no.
If 50% of my time on that app is spend on specific profiles and they never show up on the general TL... - seems off.
The "monetizers" otoh adjust their poasting behaviour all to chime in on the "current thing" of the day.
The psychological warfare & mind control tools are certainly becoming much more refined and subtile.

That's pretty much the numbers they were projecting us ~20-25 years ago.
The math was off, but everyone pretended that it will all work out somehow.
"Magic", "adults in control" or some other fairy tale to make people feel good and not having to think to much about the ultimate outcome.
In hindsight, quite grateful for this early severe crack in confidence in the system I took away from that school day.

I certainly vividly remember how, in our later high school years, during the "Social Studies" class, we were presented with very similar formulas for the German social security system.
The math simply did not seem to check out.
It just didn't make sense "what the adults were trying to tell us".
It did not square.
When a few of us inquired about it, the teacher didn’t have any satisfying answers. (Well, duh—he’d been on the Ponzi train long enough to know that it would work out for *him* as long as a sufficient number of people kept paying into the system for the next 20-30 years.)
We were presented with all these rosy words and theories about how great Germany is because "everybody is taken care of."
But when you looked at the cold, hard numbers, it seemed evident that a cold, hard stop would follow - and that our generation would bear the brunt.
That specific day never got out of my head.
A severe seed of doubt had been planted.
