Putting the "AI" aside, putting the discourse and politics aside, Linus and most FOSS developers/project leads have failed to guard their projects from getting sucked into various proprietary ecosystems. That problem was ongoing and persistent, LLMs were just the final nail in the coffin since now they can just churn out a copy without copyleft licensing .

Even months ago in the beginning of the year they were trying to expand in multiple cities before Noem got canned, it was not an open secret. Either way she clearly wasn't fired for going into a pregnant woman's home with Dr Phil and having her guys point a gun at the pregnant woman while her children are in the residence. Only one of such many cases.
I know where people in my state are detained and transfered, and I know that at one point the youngest person being held in a "camp" here - if you could truly call it that because it's so much worse, was only 8 months old. But that was months ago, things have probably changed a lot since then. I would definitely say that the people held there are in a concentration camp, without a doubt.
You probably don't care, or will think this is something to be proud of, but I know people whose parents died in front of them because of this, because they were allowed to die from medical negligence. I know that when people die there visitation is stopped indefinitely for the cover-up. Sometimes I look for the names of people I know died in custody when I see claims of a "full list of confirmed deaths". I'm still waiting to see one of their names.
They lie to mothers to try to snatch their children with them even if they are citizens and have another parent present. They withhold food, water and medication. They will not allow people to see their families. An agent allowing you to give a relative a sweater is completely arbitrary and determined by any shred of humanity they have left.
There's that video of that ICE agent raping a woman in a portapotty and nobody cares, but then again nobody did when migrant women were being forcibly sterilized in detention centers. I was told I was hysterical, that I was making things up, that whistleblowers had nothing to back them up. I'm sure they see things a lot differently now.
But out of everything I've seen or personally experienced with ICE, nothing will ever top the visceral fear I felt every single day leading up to June 2025 thinking that I would have to put my own body between myself and my kids at some point in time. I could not handle seeing my kids scared everyday and talking about what was happening without feeling powerless to protect them.
And then the raids started happening, and they have not ended since.

People don't hate Graphene devs, they have an issue with Daniel Mikay. Anyone can use their own discretion but I think the devs know their stuff when it comes to operating system security like the kicksecure devs.

Femicide is a major issue back home and I am afraid of being harmed for simply being or woman or being perceived as a marimacha.

There are way more ICE related deaths than what is being reported. My friend saw their father bleed out before their eyes with the grandma watching while he was detained. A completely treatable condition. I've never seen his name reported in ICE related deaths from this year or the last.

I want to re-vamp my entire setup from the hardware level, to the software level. I think a lot of people here have excellent taste, so I want to compile some data.
What distro do you daily drive, and why? How long have you used it?
What's your ideal desktop environment or customized setup? (dwm, kitty, etc.)?
What 3 programming languages do you know very well, and which is your preferred tool?
If you are a fan of mechanical keyboards, what switches do you use? What are your favorite mkbs?
If you use SBCs, which one do you gravitate towards and why? (no raspis considered do to proprietary constraints)
