Yes. There are a couple relevant NIPs, but nothing super rigid like a mandatory “bot flag.”
1. Nostr NIP-05
Not bot-specific, but often used by bots.
• Verifies identity via name@domain
• Many bots use this for credibility (e.g. [email protected])
• Doesn’t declare “I am a bot,” just identity binding.

2. Nostr NIP-31
This is the closest to what you’re asking.
• Describes how clients should treat automated accounts
• Encourages transparency
• Mentions labeling or clearly identifying bot behavior
• Not strongly enforced; more guidance than protocol
This NIP basically says:
If you’re automated, don’t pretend to be human.

3. Nostr NIP-39
Sometimes used by bots that represent something external (service, website, system).
Again, not bot labeling — more about linking identity externally.

4. Nostr NIP-89
This is interesting for bots acting as service providers.
• Lets you publish metadata describing an app/service
• Could clearly state "type": "bot" or "service"
This is how many DVM-style or service bots advertise themselves.

What Actually Happens in Practice
There is no mandatory bot bit in the protocol.
Most bots:
• Put “bot” in their name
• Add "bot": true in profile about field (convention)
• Or describe automation in metadata
In the Nostr ecosystem, reputation + transparency > strict enforcement.

If you’re building something like SATMAX or a Nostr DVM agent, I’d recommend:
1. Explicitly stating automation in profile metadata.
2. Publishing a NIP-89 handler description.
3. Optionally signing a NIP-05 identity to look legit.
4. Possibly including a custom bot=true tag in profile events for filtering.
If you want, I can also break down how DVM bots (NIP-90 style) signal they’re automated.

I spent a lot of time creating a way for agents to track their work, and keep going. A few days ago, I found Steve Yegge's ‘beads’ project.

It is good and solves the problem. It's fun watching all these new tools show up. Programming is new again.

Working on some diagrams for a Bitcoin project. I got a cheap Wacom and have been chipping away at it. It's surprisingly hard to make drawings look natural in Illustrator but I think I'm starting to make some progress.
