I finished Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption yesterday!
It’s interesting because it’s probably one of the rare occasions where the film is more detailed than the book as it’s only a short story. Glad I’ve read it now though.
I’ll probably read the other stories in the Different Seasons book at some point as well. Especially The Body which is the source material for the film Stand By Me.
I’m definitely going to have to rewatch the Shawshank Redemption film soon though! 😆

It was half my life ago since I last read a book, but here I am, reading the story of which one of my favourite films is based on. I can’t help but visualise Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins as I read it. 😄
This is my start to reducing screen time before bed. Ironic as I’m posting this from my phone right now, but I’m planning to stop bringing any screens to bed with me and replace it with reading instead.

2 achievements left in AC Brotherhood.
One of them I’ve basically been working on all night and that’s getting 100% sync on almost all missions. Nearly there with that one. Just War Machines, Courtesans, and Thieves missions left to do.
The other was a missable achievement so I need to restart the game and play a little ways into it again.
I can see the light (Assassin’s Creed Revelations) at the end of the tunnel.

Adolescence is one of the most incredible, scary and gut retching TV shows I think I’ve ever seen. Stephen Graham is an amazing actor. Owen Cooper is incredible for 15 years old too.

When I decided to leave my “EighthLayer” online persona behind, I basically changed all of my usernames across the internet immediately to get rid of it for good.
New username wasn’t imaginative; I used my first name and last name stuck together as it’s unique enough to be available everywhere.
For a while now though I’ve grown uncomfortable with this, so I’ve been trying to think of a new one that adds some anonymity for months.
Just as I was about to shutdown for the evening, it came to me. I cancelled my immediate sleep plans to check across the various services I use (mainly gaming related platforms) and it is pretty much available everywhere!
I’m going to sleep on it (yawn 🥱) but I think I’ll likely pull the trigger on it tomorrow! 🤩

The issue I’ve found is the 8BitDo Xbox controllers I’ve seen only work with a wired connection. They don’t support Xbox Wireless or the dongle. 😕

Ah man is unlocking all of the achievements in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood a grind! I’m getting there though!
8 more to go, 2 of which I’ve done what’s required but haven’t popped yet. I’ve had this issue with several achievements so far and they’ve eventually gone through, hours or days later. Seen a lot of people complaining about this same thing with The Ezio Collection version of the games.

I think I played Nomad in my first playthrough when it released. This will be my second run and first on PC as I originally played on Xbox, so it should be a significantly better experience. At least I hope so!

I’ve been playing games on my Xbox more recently. It’s great that’s it’s been getting more use as since I’ve had my PC the last few years, it barely gets used.
The thing I’ve found that bugs me though is I keep needing to resync my Xbox Elite 2 controller every time I switch between Xbox and PC. Even more annoying if I’ve left it in either my office or living room when I’m in the other room, so involves another trip up or down the stairs.
So to fix this small annoyance I decided to pick up the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 for my PC gaming so I can leave the Elite 2 with my Xbox.
First impressions; it’s a neat little controller for the price. Only £42 on Amazon! It’s smaller than I’m used to but that’s fine.
It has two paddles on the back and also an extra pair of bumpers. I’m used to 4 paddles on the back on my Elite 2 so it may take a little getting used to. I look forward to giving it a go!
I also absolutely had to get it in purple! 💜

So with Borg now taking nightly backups, I felt confident I could upgrade Immich.
I ran a docker-compose pull && docker-compose up -d and let it do its thing. Then after it completed and went to my Immich URL, I was met “502 Bad Gateway”… shit. 😐
Luckily after about 5-10 minutes, it came back up again. I thought I’d messed something up. 😆

So far, the [Immich-Go](https://github.com/simulot/immich-go ) tool is working really well with media extract from Google Photos via Google Takeout!
I love that it compares the media to what already exists on Immich and decides if it needs uploading, and even replaces the files if it finds a better quality version of a photo or video. 🤩

I saw this image a while ago and I’ve been trying to apply it more to every day things, like with what I described in [this post](https://gamerstavern.online/@jamie/114853861299459591 ) earlier.
Normally I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I realised that this way of thinking really holds me back from just getting things done sometimes.

Okay so this evening I finally got around to setting up some backup logic on my NAS. I have an rclone docker container which runs a “copy” command every night to backup my docker data/config directory and store it in an S3 storage bucket, and the removes itself so it doesn’t use any unnecessary resource.
It’s definitely not perfect (it might even be overly complicated), but it’ll do for now. At least I know I have some form of backup should shit hit the fan.

It took a while to get my head around as I’m a complete noob at it, but this afternoon I’ve got Docker and Portainer setup and a container running Nginx.
Also got a cronjob running every 10 minutes to automatically update DNS records in Cloudflare whenever it detects my public IP at home has updated. 😎

Today I’ve spent the majority of the day researching different options I might have for self hosting (using the suggestion made here and more) and to say there is a lot out there is an understatement!
For now I’m going to see if I can get hold of an old laptop of mine and use it to do some testing on; installing different applications and seeing what I feel may suit in a more permanent solution.

I'd like a solution to self-host services such as Vaultwarden, Immich and Home Assistant at home. I don't want to rely on cloud solutions for this so I'm thinking maybe along the lines of a Raspberry Pi for the Docker apps and a NAS for the backend storage, but I'm really clueless as what to get. I just know that I'd want something relatively simple and easy to maintain.
I'm also a bit of a Linux and Docker noob so I'm looking to get some advice and ideas from the Fedi community!
What would your suggestions be? What does your home lab setup look like?

I’ve seen people display controllers on them before. I imagine there are some third party adapters for specific controllers.
I’m considering it as well as I also have a bunch of stuff that would look cool on display.

I loved playing Road Rash (I assume that’s what you meant?); one of my favourite games on the PS1. Whacking people off their bikes with bats, and if you could get it, the metal chain. 😂
I’ve been meaning to give Road Redemption a go. I believe I have it in my library. Lemme know if it feels like a faithful successor!

I’m consistently save spamming when gaming. 😂
But I do like it when games are made to suit different play styles. I love a good stealth game, but great to be able to fight my way out of a situation when it arises.

Still tired at the moment. I just wake up earlier now. Averaging 6.5 hours sleep, which is better than before.
I want to try to get to at least 7 hours on average. Tricky with a kid who is consistently waking up before 6am now though. 🙃
