Last Notes npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi this has become my year of growing stuff from seeds for the first time. I decided to try some chive seeds since that’s supposed to be a very easy indoor one. Learned there is also a chive that has pink flowers. (parents grew the white flowers one) Then, a butternut squash had seeds that were already all sprouting (🤯for me and my partner; according to a Google search, this is common). So I planted 5 in a pot that is about 10 in. diameter. They are growing fast … except for one that is slower. I think I may have planted them upside down. The sprouts were coming out of the pointy side, so I put those facing up. #sageseeds -> #chiveseeds -> #butternutsquashseeds (+ a random #chinesecabbageseed & #wildspinachseed ) https://image.nostr.build/41a9cb04402fbd82da2bcb1784410c5d9d3f44d8829d0c30de8bef350c390b03.jpg https://image.nostr.build/64580496e5e475bc3fa6d11d4d6a1ae5ce75b1b9df1f5f641dd3da24c27095b0.jpg https://image.nostr.build/b3c4b47ba42f1b85fb8aa5caa596ee9565b1dd6c88d7983484b7901dd74612af.jpg npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi the bitcoin character is furry and has long black hair. why furry? npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi in the bigger pot. I got this while volunteering at a botanical garden for something with kids. I went once and for some reasons, don’t think I want to do it again … 😋 but the two girls at my table had interesting name combos with their brothers. Piaf and Pierre, Florence and Terrence. It seriously felt surreal when they told me... it came up in conversation when I mentioned I was feeding my sandwich bread to squirrels and sparrows during my lunch break. It’s cool/weird how bonding can happen so easily with kids. https://image.nostr.build/c1752837b4bbfe8d6eeaec0f5de3dacba88391837a670ad0681ab302b61af718.jpg npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi https://image.nostr.build/cf3599c9d1c749cb61c1a21daca88d76302dd286efb5540640ef0562a09a01be.jpg more book based than drawing based this time. lyrics from a 1971 David Bowie song, then covered by AURORA in 2016 for the album GIRLS volume 3. #marcoverpage #26 npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi yeah colors do tend to be named after flowers … or minerals …. rather than food 😋 there was some connection to a place name that I was reading about, but it was actually Spain npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi ohhh so kinda similar to dogs ☺️ except it has no paws to use for getting someone’s attention npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi last night, I was sitting on the couch and started thinking about what a bummer it is that I didn’t take a photo early enough of the sage sprout that came out looking like a butterfly. Now it’s bigger and has two distinct leaf parts, and if I wanted to draw it, I wouldn’t have a photo reference. Well, better late than never … I reached over to get it to take a photo of it, and surprise surprise! the two leaf parts had closed up again! This was especially surprising because a new tiny leaf was already starting to come up in the middle. So I got the photo of how it had looked from the start. Looked it up and this behavior / phenomenon might be “nyctinasty” or sleep movements of a plant. Common in plants of the bean family. Hmmm. #sageseeds https://image.nostr.build/d3f32b17f9636ebe14273f28dfaead92210c2c1dfee21d42f09471ba5f8b2952.jpg https://image.nostr.build/706bfb9e465475affb24943f37e48002779785abc740e1439bcdf5aea309af79.jpg https://image.nostr.build/d4035b6880f5eab10e7024fd3246ff868bceae5d7bdcf5774bc6f6c89975c3da.jpg npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi the sage seeds are actually sprouting - one in each pot. Americans tried to introduce it to Manila in the early 20th century, but it was strongly opposed by local Filipinos who viewed it as an undignified mode of transport that turned humans into "beasts". The main mode of public and private transportation in the Philippines from the 18th to the early 20th centuries was the kalesa, a two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage.” npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi why would a horse *bite* a car? 😧 npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi oh that makes more sense hehe. Some of the new laws passed were trying to help working men and women deal with the problems of industrialization (factory work) and urbanization (dirty and cramped apartments and neighborhoods). The most significant new law was the First Reform Bill of 1832. Among a bunch of other things, the bill extended the vote beyond the “landholding gentry” to about half of middle-class men (about 1.5 million men). “Of course, it still denied the vote to all working-class men and all women” … people protested, and there was a Second Reform Bill in 1867, which "extended the vote to still more men”. In 1918, Women over the age of 30 were finally given the right to vote. (Women aged 21 to 30 had to wait until 1927.) So, 1867 to . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1918, then . . . . . . 1927, in England. About 3/4 is about ‘broken money’, just written in a more succinct and easier to summarize way. It’s really depressing to read about the horrible broken money system, again. Just like the Charles Dickens book, I try to read a chapter a day. Or every few days. Or a week. On the plus side, it helps me to understand my experiences of being not valued and devalued at work, being managed out. Why did graduate school feel like an authoritarian regime? Why did the ensuing work place also feel like an even more targeted authoritarian regime? If the money system devalues The Money, that means it is devaluing people’s time and energy, or their experiences, or basically, their lives. So my experience, in a high cost of living city, is part of that. And if the world, aka human society has been this way, then maybe it’s a necessary part of going from being a young adult to an adult to experience that, so you can know it exists and understand that it happens. So maybe when I sometimes feel this anger and rage at a personal level, I can instead read more about “why and how our financial system is broken” and maybe, somehow Bitcoin could be a solution . . . for “everyone”? https://image.nostr.build/7a214e7b59bf4ce591ac5fa014d95e2a8d593f38072bb7ab8bff407e7adc55ea.jpg npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi haha! npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi ahhhh! again I have found clips of this style outside on the ground! David Copperfield, Bleak House, Hard Times, A Tale of Two Cities, and Our Mutual Friend are the great works of his prolific later period.” The world of Charles Dickens begins with the 1811 publishing of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, arguably the first modern English novel. I don’t think I’ve ever actually read anything by Charles Dickens. Although of course I’m familiar with the plot of A Christmas Carol, which has been featured in many cartoons. The villains / antagonists were so tricky, in such a nuanced way. Verrrrrry tricky in their use of language and narration, deception and faking a personality, and using someone’s personality + identity + character to trap them. Sooooo creepy. At one point I yelled “OH MY GOD! ARE YOU KIDDING ME” so abruptly that my partner in the next room accidentally clicked the mouse. Circe (spelled Kirkê in the book), goddess / witch. Polyphêmus, the Cyclops (spelled Kyklops). The Sirens (Seirênês). I really like how the show has added so much visual detail, and also changed some things about the story - like de-emphasizing the whole meat-eating thing ha. One thing that got emphasized that I didn’t quite fully get while reading the book, was the = horror = of Kirkê changing Percy into a guinea pig. (A humorous change since originally the men were changed into pigs) It really showed the horror of losing the ability to speak or to use language … while stuck in a world of humans, and dependent on humans. (Although another funny new detail was that Percy as guinea pig could communicate with the other guinea pigs who used to be pirates.) It made me think about how humans really value verbal communication. There’s been a whole history of the development of communication technologies, including the current one of decentralized social media like nostr. So then the influence of that is it can be easy to be careless about the needs and feelings of non-speaking living beings. Fun elements to this situation was how Percy used his Poseidon powers, to use his emotions, to create a tornado / mini-maelstrom in the guinea pigs’ water bottle, which Annabeth noticed. Then, Annabeth had a container of magic vitamin pills from Hermês, that she threw into the guinea pigs’ cage. It’s good that someone collected all the facts and figures into one article though. npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi well I was recently thinking of it as, ‘there have always been really poor people’ in societies. That has just always been a problem. Which is kind of crazy. That that problem can never be solved. npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi so far, this might be my favorite cover for a bitcoin book. tho maybe a caveat should be ‘for everyone … except oligarchs’ 😈 npub19fpw0xcpwwkunhd52ryer82u5j6a3kppquplfyjhz3xc87d2cths7r8x97 zen<3lofi maybe by the time they finish reading it, things will have changed for the better 😝 depending on how long it takes to read
