I can't believe how awesome the new battery electric chainsaws are. We were using a heavy duty gas powered Stihl which has served us well for around 15 years. But I was getting tired of the fumes and noise and perpetual mixing of fuel. So this year we invested in a new Ryobi 20" saw with an 8AH battery.
Its noticeably more powerful than the Stihl, much quieter and the battery lasts longer than a tank of gas.

I was having a chat with a friend who went full Linux after years on WIndows. I have also tried this multiple times, but as a long time mac user I find the loss of integration with with my iPhone and other apps/devices is a high price to pay and so never fully migrated.
If other vendors could integrate with the IOS apps just as easily as apple does then this problem could be alleviated. Maybe someone could even bring back "My Photo Stream"! The biggest act of #enshitification Apple has ever committed.

Spot on essay. When we installed #Solar a couple of years ago I was appalled that I was required to ensure a continuous internet connection for the Solar Edge inverter lest I void my warranty. Enphase was pretty much the same.
The only way around this is to build your own system from other non-enshitified components. I could probably do that today but I did not have the knowledege back then.
"Big Solar" has also corralled most of the larger installation firms across the region so its difficult not to use them.

I was disappointed that the East West Interconnect grid was not on the list, but not surprised. As far as I know no company has yet stepped up with a proposal and this list was about "shovel ready" projects.
I just hope these guys will use their federal powers to pave a path for it and call for proposals.

Initially I was like WTF is he talking about!!?? how can oil be decarbonized.
But then I realized he was only talking about the production side of things, not the burning. And the thing is he knows very well that CCS in the tar sands is bullshit and never going to happen. So ya, saying we will approve a pipeline once you get your CCS working is as good as saying there will be no pipeline, without actually having to say it out loud.

There was quite few of these. Its why the CPC seat count was higher than expected. They thought they were doing the right thing but lacked the localized polling to make the right choice.

The numbers are what the numbers are. The accuracy at the riding level is low for sure, but based on the last couple of provincial elections they are unlikely to be that far off.
The NDP will not get "wiped out", however with FPTP they will probably loose a lot of seats.

Its a self reliance thing. I know lots of younger chaps who think they are invincible. There is a fantasy of never needing help from anyone. Hence the lack of support for parties who's platform includes assistance.

Ya its a bit of a revelation for many. It can also be used as a V2L system in a power outage. Just turn the car on (very important) such that the 12V is being charged off the main battery, then connect an inverter to the battery terminals. Can easily get several hundred watts out of it and can run your fridge and internet for days.

You should be able to just it the start button once without foot on the brake to get to accessory mode. However be careful! You can drain the 12V battery and then you need boost.
We were a bit of a curiosity last month when my son ran his 12V down blasting the stereo in the school parking lot. I then had to come boost it with the gas powered Tacoma!
From then on I advised him to just turn the whole damn car on when playing the stereo in the school parking lot.

There are many different kinds of compression. Lossless compression involves throwing away the stuff that is redundant and is indistinguishable form the original. However lossy compression involves throwing away actual data which can affect the output quality. I was involved in a bunch of testing with CBC and BBC back in the 80s where user perception was measured against the amount of lossy compression. At some point it becomes obvious to everyone, but most people dont perceive a moderate amount of lossy compression.

Not at all, we installed a heat pump in 2005 and its still going strong. The coldest its been here was -12 and it was still working fine, although with a long duty cycle.
It heats (or cools) a 2800 sqft house using 4500 watts. Less than half of what our solar array puts out on a sunny day. I suspect these new ones are much more efficient.
There is a resistive element which will kick in if it need to raise the temp rapidly.
Its a pretty standard setup around here. Baffles me why there is so much skepticism about these things.

Impressive indeed.
I cannot comment on winding down the #Nuclear by 2027 but it certainly comes down to cost. If the reactor is near end of life then the cost of refurb could be many times that of increasing solar + storage. There is also the issue of management and safety. Old Nuclear reactors are only as safe as their engineering management permits it to be.

There is an increasing number of studies and articles like this appearing. This series from the Economist got my attention in June.

They are basically saying its game over. The main point being that Solar is unlike any energy source ever seen in that each year it gets better and cheaper with no end in sight. And now with storage going the same way we might just be able to save ourselves from ourselves.
This is most surprising in that The Economist is known for being a hard nosed capitalist outlet.
