So the Vatican has now officially responded to the unsanctioned consecration of bishops by the ultraconservative FSSPX (itself an automatic excommunication), and they're basically taking the nuclear option.
Not only are they officially recognising it as a schism, but they are saying that _all members_ including lay members who stay with the SSPX are considered to be excommunicated, and _any_ sacraments assisted by their ministers to be illicit, including marriage.

Traditionella datacenter och kommunikationsutrustning gör nyttigt arbete på ett sätt som "AI" gör till en mycket mindre utsträckning, och på ett enormt mycket mer ineffektivt vis.
Alla stora techbolag hade mer eller mindre ärliga klimatåtaganden tills de började bygga AI-datacenter, då allt åkte i skräpkorgen.
Man pratade inte om att bygga nya kärnkraftverk för att driva Facebook.
Det är inte i närheten samma magnitud.

Four lanes (two each way) is the maximum size a road will ever need to be. If you want to move more things and people, build a rail line, which, incidentally, also should be maximum two rails in each direction. If you need more flow between two points than that, no you don't. Look for more points to connect to, to make the network denser instead.

I like the idea of custom social media feeds, including custom algorithmic feeds. I think that if there are reasonable usages of LLM-driven programming tools, this could be one of them.
I still think a DSL with clarity, determinism etc. would be much better for all sorts of reasons though.
I think if you post public stuff to a public infrastructure hosted by someone else, with them already generating different feeds, it's a bit silly to be too upset about new feeds.>

Den här tråden fick mig att tänka igen på kulturhusprojektet vi hade i Umeå för tio år sen eller så, och vad som (inte) blev av det. I korthet så skrev en del av kommunen skitbra kontrakt med oss engagerade, följt av att en annan (?) del av kommunen sålde hela fastigheten till en privat ägare.
Så blev det med den saken.
Och nu? Noll och intet har hänt med huset eller fastigheten sen 2017. Less blir man.

My understanding is that is is also deeply dependent on the underlying infrastructure. Trains are _so_ frequent, and the infrastructure _so_ full in Germany so that _any_ delay or problem _anywhere_ impacts a lot more than the particular train. Of course, this is why you maintain things, but even with perfect maintenance (and I don't think DB/other German operators' is), things happen. @npub12pw…zvxn

Really hard to tell what the actual "120 times faster" thing refers to here: The system being described seems to me to be about detecting potential issues in submitted code, which admittedly is probably a much better use of LLMs in programming than most, since it's about applying _more scrutiny_ to _existing code_, rather than producing _more code_ with little or no scrutiny.

I think you could quite easily make a parallel here to various right-wing movements that, in contrast to the neoliberal/centrist establishment, correctly identify a problem and promise a solution to that problem, with a major problem being that the solution in question is built on the oppression of someone else, or on false promises.
Like, the problem of undervaluation of (not just) digital art is absolutely real, and there are few solutions forthcoming, but AI and NFTs ain't it.
