Yes I think this is one of the most difficult parts. Everyone wants to buy the house which will appreciate in value but to do so requires the mortgage. Now you're locked in for 30 years working the job to keep making payments. No more room for btc at that point except for the leftovers.
But if you rent, no asset appreciation in your favor.. and they still charge the price of a mortgage. Guess you have to rough it until you can afford a full price or homestead it in the styx until you have enough to secure something at full price.

In the past with the taproot soft fork it appeared that it was not an easy process to move ahead to activation. This increased my confidence towards bitcoin's stability, even after the spam bug was introduced.
Now with BIP-110 I can see that there is actually almost no restriction on pushing a hasty fork through the process. Its crazy how fast this has moved.
My two additional thoughts are:
1. If the rules allow this sort of action then it is a legit action, but perhaps a short-sighted design.
2. It is foolish to assume that if the option exists then it won' be used. You see the same thing in politics all the time i.e. the recently redistricting fights that were going on last year.
In the great game there is no morality. If you have options that are an advantage then you use them. Bitcoin is no different. My hope is that this leads to a variety of implementations and at least breaks up the software landscape.

I use sparrow wallet mainly. Not sure about others like a trezor or ledger but theoretically you could find it in the settings or a similar menu. For example, in Sparrow wallet on desktop, the wallet has a settings tab which shows all three.

Yes you can, but you have to be sure that you save your seed phrase and know the derivation path. You also have to remember what script type your wallet is using.

Well first you need either a Lightning Service Provider or a lightning node.
A service provider runs a node for you essentially so the bitcoin won't be in self-custody. The trade-off is that it is easier for new people. I recommend #Zeus.
If you want your own node to have self-custody, but are not comfortable with setting it up, you can purchase a service and hardware from companies like #Start9 and #Umbrel. They build servers that are geared towards people who aren't technical. You can easily install a lightning node as simply as installing an app on your phone with them. They package software that can help you manage the node as well.

If you use the wrong path you wont see the transactions. If you are in the right derivation path but dont see anything you might have a gap of 20<x empty addresses and need to adjust the search criteria
