One of the main advantages of using anything #FOSS nowadays is that it's refreshingly clean from AI slop and other spam features.
Contrarily to the preconceptions from 10 years ago, it feels like using boutique, premium software whereas formerly leading products are just slowly rotting to their core.

One lesson learned from the recent #fosstodon facts is that one of the biggest limitations of #mastodon is how it is not really designed to migrate from an instance to another. It would be much nicer if posts were treated more like atomic entities, univocally signed/hashed so to allow users to freely move their content around instances

Just a FYI, #Lomiri (Unity 8) being merged in #postmarketOS is a massive achievement.
Essentially, this tightens the gap a bit between the streamlined Ubuntu Touch UI that lots of people liked, with support for lots of mainline devices and software in postmarketOS. It'll probably be a bit buggy for a while, but is a great step in the right direction.

I would go for flathub for simplicity and reach to many distros (apart from some annoyances in the packaging it's fairly well documented), did you test if Flutter apps work on ARM Linux though?

that depends on the target. Flatpak is surely the popular choice for convergent apps lately (and most of us use apps from Flathub on Linux phones), but not the lightest if it's more like a small utility

In terms of accessible #UX for neurodiversity, one of the wonders of @npub163h…mv0n in my experience is the ability to remember things I saw in my timeline in a consistent order.
The fact I can often rebuild thought processes just by moving through the timeline again is something I missed from real-world environments.
On other platforms, one click will result in a re-randomization of the posts interleaved by viral slop, which keeps bombing the attention span back to zero.
Please keep it this way.

interestingly, the flathub release is slower on newer intel cpus because vaapi seems to have lower total latency than avdec (cpu) for some reason. I should make this (CPU/GPU) more configurable in the next release

avdec is the default as it's normally the one with lowest latency in this case (but CPU based)
You might want to test the Flathub version, which defaults to VAAPI, to see if it's faster in your case, but your GPU might be too old for that

Semi-OT: I find #printers discarded on the street almost daily, but never any other kind of electronics.
I rescued a couple in the past years (oddly enough I love printers) and they always worked flawlessly in spite of often horrible firmware.
I am starting to believe that people don't own printers anymore not because they don't want/need/have space, but because they have gotten so atrociously capitalistic that it is impossible to operate one without huge costs and tons of proprietary apps

umm, that depends a lot on the hardware sadly, but the latency should normally be <200ms. can you look at which encoder and decoder pipelines you are using by launching the app from console?

Not easily, unfortunately, otherwise I would have tried to upstream it:
- GND uses Miracast (standardized, TCP, slower), we use a non-standard UDP stream
- GND is only a streamer, Mirror Hall is both streamer and player for convenience. It's extremely hard to turn a Linux device in a Miracast sink on the fly
- GND supports virtual displays if I recall correctly, but not custom / adaptive resolution

that API should actually be enough if it supports virtual screens.
Fetching the correct resolution is done rudimentally for now (basically you are advertising the screen size of the display the window is on) so it should be fine on KDS
