I hope for all the people taking it that there are no (or low frequency) negative side effects.
But this is not how life works. There are tradeoffs for every decision. I fear that there will be massive long-term side effects that we discover 4, 5, 6 years into this craze and that these shortcuts have taken people to very bad places.
You don’t just change a millions-of-years-in-the-making species’ relationship to nutrition overnight and get away with it.

It’s the same answer to “why do people eat junk food?”. It’s easy, especially if you don’t think too hard. Thinking too hard about something you want to do may reveal a good reason not to do it. Best to avoid that mess and lie to yourself later that you are good person.
At this level - the worst truth you can think of yourself is that you are too lazy for deep thought. If you did do the deep thought, the worst you could think of yourself would be much much worse.

Fair. I think belief in doing the right thing for the best possible future outcome (broadly defined) is at the root of all these.
Belief and/or faith is the base layer of everything if you dig deep enough. Ideally, it is deep down there because you have done enough work with logic or reason to have a solid foundation.

Also use the word “principles”. They aren’t really principles if you don’t exercise them in instances that give you immediate, negative consequences.
The good news is that principles, morals, etc… almost always give you a positive long-term return. It’s delayed gratification just like saving money or getting up early to exercise, etc…

Been using OAuth into codex from a $20 OpenAI account for the last month. Works great. Anthropic as back up. Just used too many tokens. In another month or two, I’ll buy some mac with the new M5 and host a local model for the majority of tasks. Claude was a good bridge.

Terrible take. There is a max amount you pay. At some point you get to stop. For some that means a higher % of income, so what. Someone making $92k pays 12%. Someone making $358k pays 6%. The person paying 6% actually contributes twice as much!
