Sounds like a typical rebutthead to me. But it *does* have to be the community's shit, because he's part of the community, just as you and I are, and everyone is. When community members have awful feelings and trauma about a word, it's not always good to normalize it in the community.

Fortunately they still have very long and difficult to defend supply lines, but yeah some of them are built like tanks. I heard they'll hold vast reservoirs of drinking water, just to stop anyone from turning them off.

Machines get tired. You think exhaustion is a vice of organic life, but it's one of their greatest strengths. When organic machines break down they can regenerate, to remarkable degrees, long as you fuel them. Steel machines (that cannot exist because there isn't enough iron in the universe) break down, and they stay broken down. Personally I've never seen love win um, ever. Even our stories are about how tragic it is that people truelove each other but it cannot be. The only power love seems to have is making people think it's the most powerful.
But I'm more thinking about how love remains pure and pristine (and useless) because we don't combine it with greed, ambition, and hatred. You can have all your greed related needs met through markets, freeing you to have a greedless, giving, selfless, etc love for Jesus, which feels great! Except when you're at work.
But without markets, you can't love like that, since you can't take care of yourself if you do. So valuing love means you value markets, and won't abolish them.

True enough. It's still ridiculous that Wayland wigs out on multiple monitors though. Furthermore any new development on a stable program is vulnerable to feature creep. Wayland is sure to have a bunch of things added that were requested by the suits at some company somewhere, and aren't actually wanted by anyone.
But even that can be ironed out, given enough forks and -bitter infighting.-
I personally use X11 because Wayland doesn't do anything that X doesn't already do, that I can make use of. I have heard rumors that Wayland is better at screen capture videos, but otherwise it's just not great, and I still run into programs that aren't Wayland compatible.

The best way to determine some text is not AI-stolen rejiggered garbage is to have an existing relationship with the poster, who's produced many legit things in the past. When you can't though, it's not safe to give them the benefit of the doubt these days. If you can't spot AI "tells" then you WILL get bad medical advice, you WILL get cheated and screw over authors you love and politicians on your side in the process, and you WILL inadvertently betray your friends by accidentally following AI bots, and unsuspectingly feeding them everything you boost to give them new victims to target. It is so much better to mistake someone for an AI, than to trust an AI because you might make someone feel bad.
It's not perfect, looking for—em dashes. I only have vague heuristic guesswork techniques, like looking for repetition, or stuff mixed together weirdly, or lack of any uncommon rarely seen grammar quirks. But we have to do something. Unless you have a plan to blow up the data centers and get away with it, in which case sign me up! That'd solve our problem good!

I saw a weird furry comic the other day that pointed out something interesting. People don't need religion to have hope. They'll hope for a better life, or a mating partner, or that to be chosen for that cushy job on the third floor. They'll find heroes and role models all by themselves. What religion does is it takes that hope, and replaces it with someting more... exploitable. You can no longer hope for things to get better you can only hope for God to make things better. You can no longer hope that you'll improve. You can only hope for God to improve you, if you can be sufficiently servile to Him. You can't count on yourself, only God acting through you.

IPv6 is largely available throughout Europe, and most (all?) ISPs in the US use it, though don't offer it to most customers. They'd have to upgrade the equipment regardless of whether it was "compatible."
Personally I think the compatability thing is a bit BS. Any IPv4 address can be 1:1 mapped to 2002::/16. I always hear people saying "IPv6 is bad because it's not backwards compatible!" but it is *backwards* compatible. People are complaining that IPv4 isn't *forwards* compatible, by leaving empty space to be filled in later for the 128 bit address. Which is ridiculous, and IPv4's problem anyway.

Inalienable rights have nothing to do with liberalism. They came up much later, as an argument *against* liberal things like slavery and poisoning. Adherents to classic liberalism will respect the police and military as legitimate, necessary, and beneficial institutions. They treat violation of private property as a crime, and agree that criminals do not get to have liberty. Slaves count as private property, because they or their parents or their nature as chattel livestock agreed to it at some point maybe, or they lost the war and so deserve it. Liberals are fierce defenders of colonialism, measuring the success of their people by how much and how quickly they can extract from the rest of the world, because their liberal culture is better than any of that unwashed savagery that they've never seen before.

Seems legit.
In fact a lot of games have to be slower than "real-time" or they happen too fast for the player to keep up with. 60 frames a second is about the limit of our perception, so every actor logic code will have something like "if time since I last updated is too small this frame, then don't continue."
There's also the fact that logic is much, much harder to optimize, so rendering a scene at 60fps won't slow your computer down, but having 3000 mobs all doing pathfinding algorithms... less feasible at 60fps.

They pick the next word according to what the most likely next word is. With some randomness thrown in to keep them from going into infinite loops. That's it. The only distinction is they can guess relatively well according to what the past several dozen (hundred?) words are. They're still guessing based on nothing but randomness, and their training data, which are people's words.
It really becomes apparent when you ask them to write something with a lot of words, like a book. But even "press releases" are long enough it's pretty obvious. And they're only repeating what people have already said, just randomly mixed up to give you the illusion that it's something new, by hiding their sources.

We don't need daily sports scores, or stock prices. Even if we did, we don't need a gigantic data center to keep track of them. Heck the latter used to be taken care of with ticker tape! Claude isn't just a tool. It's a highly expensive, overengineered magician's wand, that you're saying must be treated with the same respect as a hammer. The fact that you're defining things in terms of dollar hours, when the dollar is so hopelessly compromised, makes me feel like we won't get anywhere here. A combine harvester devours fossil fuels and requires massive steel refineries to build, and offers no real advantage other than letting one person steal all the farmland without agriculture collapsing, and it produces much, much more decent results than any AI datacenter. If you think they care whether it's effective, and you think that it's going to improve as they prophecize while the technology wallows in the terrible idea it has always been, you might have another thing coming.
The slop is the point. They're trying to ruin everything faster than we can keep up, so we'll be powerless to hold them accountable for their actual crimes against humanity. Sad thing is I can't help but think how many women are glad that dating sites are scamming men, because they see it as another way to weed out the unworthy. But yeah, if people need shelter, you can't turn them away on the argument that those evil homeless bums are dangerous. Or, shouldn't turn them away. Still seems an odd spot for a shelter. The location only makes sense if white supremists are choosing it. (Then again it is NYC, and there's very little room for anything anywhere.)

I might recommend looking at the university system. That and trade guilds are both examples of organizations that try to get people out of the "this sucks" stage and into the "this rocks" stage, but are mostly composed of people in the latter group, who have completed the program and succeeded. The same sort of thing would apply to matchmakers I'd say, where people who get a relationship understand it's their obligation to help the system that helped them.
Both those systems have also acted as gatekeepers, to try and drive people away from success, so they can artificially reduce their numbers and cheat the market. (Medical school is a particularly good example of this dark pattern.) But they've also been pretty good at helping people get ahead, even after the members are already ahead.
Worth considering...

Honestly a matchmaking (app?) technique on the Fediverse would probably work better than straight dating. You'd privately message the matchmaker with what you're looking for and some information about yourself, and they'd recommend people to you. They'd be in a good position to do so, since people send them their info, without having to publish that info for everyone to see.
There are problems with it of course.

People tend to act differently when degrees Fahrenheit are extremely low... and people DO hoard temperature, by heating their houses. Even something totally neutral like "inches" makes a big difference when you're talking about inches of land. I don't know how to solve the hoarding problem...

That's kind of why I wanted to make a decentralized currency system... thingy. Because bitcoin *is* slow and impractical. The entire blockchain takes forever to download, forever to process, and a significant amount of disk space. A single transaction takes an hour to add to the blockchain, an hour in which the value of whatever is being bought and sold may have changed! Your pizza will *definitely* be cold if you try to pay for it in bitcoin.
Which is why people started turning to the much more convenient "bitcoin exchanges," where you could own a certificate that represents bitcoin... and then everyone got ripped off and robbed repeatedly.
But money doesn't have to use a blockchain at all. I could (and did) digitally sign the first 100 numbers in the natural number set, along with a statement that any signatures of numbers higher than 100 didn't count. Assuming I then destroyed the private key, you could buy and sell those signed numbers just like any other commodity. So I wanted to make a system where everyone generates their 100 bucks, and whoevers is most reliable is the one everyone else uses.
But of course... you can never assume I destroyed the private key. So then we're back to money printing. But still no one can capture the money printing process that way, since everyone's doing it, and anyone inflating their currency will get dropped for others, so maybe it's a good idea...?

They will end your river access like, seriously. (Or maybe northern Oregon is their ideal climate idk.) But they're like the perfect anti-creek. 10 feet tall wherever there is water nearby, and yet impossible to eradicate even in the driest, most desolate fields. That's why it's kind of ridiculous to say it's deliberate. The city actually poisoned a ton of blackberries a few years ago, for all the good it did.

I liked Ripple (and the XRP scam ruined it) but I don't think it has to scale. If I could get a better deal helping someone 500 miles away, I really don't give much of a fuck. If it's good enough to deal with the people who directly help me, with maybe a few levels of separation at most, I'm fine with that. When you try to minimax the whole world you're opening the door to scammers.
In fact there are arguments for lax accounting even between people you're helping directly.

I uh... I mean I guess Russia's ruling class could be defined by prison culture, and I guess one aspect of that is "don't drop the soap," and sexists do keep prisoners sex segregated. One might argue with equal validity that Russia invaded because Ukraineans didn't have the correct prison tattoos for their level of social hierarchy.
I think they just invaded because Russian oligarchs miss profits in cheap "imports" from their former slave colonies, and Putin wants to be the next Peter the Great. Also an excuse to suppress justice because "we're at war, soldier."
