Paul Verhoeven's "Showgirls" (1995) has been consistently ranked as one of the worst films ever made and the movie was a box office bomb. However, it has generated more than $100 million from video rentals and became one of MGM’s top 20 all-time bestsellers. When "Showgirls" swept the 16th Annual Razzie Awards with record 7 Razzies, Paul Verhoeven turned up in person to accept Worst Director and Worst Picture awards.
Verhoeven was the first director to ever turn up to collect the award. While accepting the award, he said, "I had the worst thing happen to me today. I got seven awards for being the worst, and it was more fun than reading the reviews for 'Showgirls' in September."
He continued, "When I was making movies in Holland, they were blasted by critics as decadent, perverted and sleazy," Verhoeven said, while the audience laughed. "Then I moved to the United States. . ." Verhoeven didn't say anything more. Everybody filled in the punchline for him. An ANPR traffic camera.
My crime? Driving to my storage unit.
If I’m coming from Chelsea, the direct route is illegal.
The “green” route is to drive almost all the way to Wandsworth Bridge, loop around, and come back to the exact same destination.
Meanwhile you’re crawling along at 20 mph, never getting out of second gear.
This is marketed as a “Clean Air Neighbourhood.”
Yet the policy often means driving farther, spending longer on the road, burning more fuel, and adding more congestion just to reach the exact same destination.
Then I found the numbers.
A 2025 report said the Imperial Road camera issued 851 PCNs in a single day - believed to be a UK record. The wider South Fulham camera scheme reportedly issued 212,615 PCNs in 2024.
Back-of-the-envelope:
• £17 million if every PCN were paid at the £80 discounted rate.
• £34 million at the standard £160 penalty.
• £51 million if every PCN ultimately reached the £240 enforcement stage.
Forget buying London real estate.
I want to own a London traffic camera.
Now I’m curious who supplies these cameras. One of the biggest players is Yunex Traffic, owned by Mundys, which is controlled by the Benetton family and - of course - Blackstone.
I have no idea whether Yunex supplied the Hammersmith & Fulham cameras or what the contract with the council looks like, but I’d genuinely love to see it.

France has been hit by another high-profile robbery — thieves broke into the René Lalique jewellery museum
After the autumn Louvre heist, the museum had been classified as a high-security site and was supposed to be under strict protection.
According to reports, the intruders wore hooded clothing. They managed to enter the building, reach the jewellery exhibition hall, smash several display cases, and steal crystal pieces without gemstones.
Although the alarm system went off, none of the suspects were caught. The police were only called after a cleaner arrived at work and discovered the break-in.
The estimated damage is around €4 million.

A couple of volatile weeks in Digital Credit has surfaced some confusion around investor protections built into our product $SATA. While the price has moved a bit, the investor charter remains unchanged. Every term below is filed with Nevada Secretary of State and contractually built into $SATA.
Cash flow protections:
1. 13.00% per annum, paid in cash every business day (variable rate)
2. Rate can't be cut into weakness. The board may only lower it if the prior period's average price is at or above $99. Below $99, the rate is frozen.
3. Rate can't gap down. Any rate cut is capped at 25 bps/month (widened by SOFR declines), can never be set below SOFR, and can never go negative.
Penalty backstop: (dormant unless a dividend is ever missed)
1. Any missed dividend becomes cumulative and compounds monthly.
2. Unpaid amounts accrue at the dividend rate + 25 bps, stepping up 25 bps each month to a 20% ceiling.
Structural seniority:
1. $100 liquidation preference that ratchets up, never down, reset to the greater of $100, the prior day's sale price, or the trailing average.
2. Senior to all common equity. Class A and B are Junior Stock for dividends and liquidation.
3. Dividend stopper. No common dividends or common buybacks until all accumulated SATA dividends are paid in full.
Governance:
1. Board seats on prolonged "non-payment". Holders elect one Preferred Stock Director, up to two, triggered by 12+ consecutive monthly compliance dates unpaid (each with its 60-day window) or 24+ consecutive months. Terminates once cured.
2. Consent rights. Holder approval required to issue senior stock or to adversely amend terms.
Exit protections:
1. Fundamental Change repurchase. On change of control, holders can force a cash buyback at liquidation preference plus accrued interest.
2. Company call: Optional redemption at $110.00 (10% premium to par) plus accrued and compounded dividends; clean-up (under 25% remaining) and tax redemptions pay full ratcheted preference plus accrued interest.
3. Perpetual. No forced maturity pressuring either issuer or holder.
Outside of the charter:
Management Incentives:
- No management receives incentive compensation unless all dividends are paid

Another method of Islamization was the forced and violent settlement of 5-10 Greek families in compact Turkish villages, from where any exit and communication with Greek populations was prohibited.
Senator Damat Ferit Pasha (former Grand Vizier) reveals the following in the session of the Turkish Senate on October 22, 1918:
"The annihilation of the Christian populations is attributable as a crime to the Committee of Union and Progress, and it was a crime committed without any reason. The populations were forced to leave under threat and violence and were mercilessly exterminated… The total number of Ottoman subjects deported in this way amounts to 550,000 souls; I fear, however, that this number is lower than the actual one."
Furthermore, Valide Edip Hanım, one of the most distinguished journalists in Turkey, writes in the newspaper "Vakit" (October 22, 1918):
"We drove away our Greek subjects and did everything to uproot them, as we did with the Armenians, and for this purpose we used methods resembling those of the Middle Ages. The theory of forced Islamization became the cause of a criminal tragedy in the hands of robbers and murderers. Governors, prefects, officials, endowed with absolute power by the Committee, cast upon the shoulders of the innocent Turkish element the entire burden of the unspeakable atrocities."
And the Turkish newspaper "Akam" wrote the following:
"The Ottoman government committed these unspeakable crimes, and for this reason the government bears full responsibility…"
The "Death Marches" of the Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians were one of the most horrific aspects of the Genocide, carried out by the Kemalist forces and the Young Turks.
They found a way to make themselves the most barbarious people in history.
During these marches, thousands of Greeks and Armenians, mainly women, children, and the elderly, were forced to leave their homes and walk for hundreds of kilometers under inhumane conditions, usually through mountains and deserts, with little or no food, water, or shelter. These deportations were ostensibly for "relocation" purposes, but they were in fact designed to lead to mass death through exhaustion, starvation, disease, and exposure. It was a planned Genocide. Simple as that.
