There has always been and will always be spam on bitcoin and nothing that's being proposed by this divisive bip will prevent it. What it would do, if successful, which it won't be, is set a precedent for hasty, contentious forks that introduce new rules and limits with a low threshold that's sure to create a minority fork. This is a great way for low information "bitcoiners" to lose their value on, just like every other minority fork in bitcoin's history. The lower threshold only ensures it will turn out worse than the others. Watch your fork pump and then dump to be worth a tiny % of the value (usage, exchange rate, users, hashrate, etc.) just like BCH and BSV, as holders dump their minority bonus shitcoin dividend and swap them for bitcoin.
Also, stop "arguing" like a little girl. Making cute mean names for people you oppose and throwing unsubstantiated claims around is not an argument. Your not winning anyone of value over with that tactic, only emotional tribal morons.

This seems like a great idea and a perfect fit for bitcoin. It reminds me of early demonstrations of remote payments by sharing a bitcoin "invoice" qr code with a willing payer via livestream or just text. I think Roger Ver demoed that use case back in the early days.
Since this 33me to involve payment via credit or debit card, I'm curious about how charge-backs are dealt with.
I think in-person transactions generally are "insured" so to speak by the payer being present and maybe even on camera. It seems like the remote payer could potentially game a system like this because they are anonymous, off camera, and could just accept the bitcoin and then do a charge-back at some point afterwards.
Maybe the protection is that their credit/debit card company would flag this sort of activity if it happened too frequently?

We can most definitely have impact on someone unilaterally attempting to confuse bitcoin users, by:
1. Sending clear feedback
2. Not using or supporting people/wallets/services who use this invalid, confusing and dangerous terminology
3. Spreading awareness of the problems with the community
This is well within the power of even an individual to help remedy.

It's hard to manage changes, updates, security patches etc. on a 24/7 decentralized monetary network. Litecoin was used during the block size wars to help test LN and it's required changes. Your point is not wrong, but it's no trivial task.
My advice is to try to stay calm and not assume long time contributors to bitcoin are bad actors. Don't trust, verify - yes, but that doesn't mean to assume any change is a conspiracy.
We can run any node software we want and shouldn't be assumed to be bad actors. Choice is good and multiple implementations is positive. I think we just need to stop short of confidently assigning negative motivations to people who have been doing amazing work for years.
Open and respectful discussion between people who understand all these dynamics is what's needed. Not emotional libelous flame wars.

That's not the whole story. As I understand it, you will still relay spam, just in a way that is more costly to node runners since it stays in the UTXO set. Imo both sides have reasonable technical and governance perspectives but some "in the community" are turning this into a political battle, slandering the other side, as you just did. Saylor is using the infamous "fiat attack" but in reverse. He's using the strength of Bitcoin to exploit the weakness of the unbacked funny money - USD. He's blazing the trail and offering products and techniques to institutions who previously were stuck with very low yield, which in many cases could not even beat real inflation.
As more jump onboard, this will cause a "melt up" effect, accelerating Hyperbitcoinization.

Are they saying you can't sell it to your neighbors or just not back to them? I'm not sure but that might be because the concept of selling it back to them could have been more of a sales pitch to incentive people to take the plunge into solar that a practical reality.
This is admittedly not my area of expertise but I always suspected that with low transmission efficiency and possibly the need to upgrade infrastructure to allow pumping excess energy into the grid, the sell it back angle was a sales scam.
I'd be interested to learn from people thet know more about it if my instincts were right or wrong.

Also, regarding bitcoin, I'm guessing you were trying to help shield your friends and family from inflation, not really doing it for ngu.
With nostr I don't see the point of pumping early adoption by normies.. Otoh, early adoption by parties fighting for freedom against censorship, tyranny etc. makes perfect sense.

How about a tab that instead of simply using $1000 back in 2011(?), roughly estimates the time spent in the sub, maybe per year, then uses McDonald's historical burger flipping wages DCAd into bitcoin? That would really highlight the opportunity cost of investment into being a perpetual naysayer in an irrational echo chamber.

First, this is an excellent, comprehensive and informative presentation that obviously took a lot of effort and contains excellent observations and valuable information. Great job and thank you!
I'm left with only one fundamental question: why do we need to chase users or communities? Like Bitcoin, nostr is freedom, but unlike with bitcoin I fail to see the incentive to bring in the hoards that aren't looking for it. Arguably bitcoin might have been better off if it grew more organically instead of chasing ngu. Regarding nostr, I fail to see the incentive for chasing adoption, aside from forcing growth which comes with its own negative consequences. Why does nostr need salesmen?
Somewhat ironically I tell people about nostr but it's when they are specifically concerned about, reporting on or affected by deplatforming, demonetization, censorship, control etc. (see Telegram'a Pavel in France). I see why we need to make freedom seeking people aware of it when it solves their problems but I fail to see why we need to be pushy/concerned about it.
I also think there are risks associated with accelerating onboarding of the hoardes. First, lowering the signal to noise ratio. Second, scammers and spammers. Third, breaking something important with many eyes watching (perhaps stifling innovation for fear of this). Fourth, getting on the radar before reaching organic critical mass. If you think about it, these largely also applied to bitcoin and perhaps in line with Rabble's early assertion, may also apply to many/all new systems.
IMO, if we should be actively onboarding anyone, it should be freedom minded content creators who have, and for whom we all have, a vested interest in solidifying their ability to speak freely. Beyond that, my vote is to allow the nostr community to organically evolve, experiment, break things etc.
Bitcoin's fundamental value derives from being a platform for freedom, same with nostr. It will just take time for people to recognize. With the forces of control actively clamping down, imo, if you build it, they will come.
