2025 Stationery Review
It's time to look back at 2025. Mainly for myself to review what I even did all year. It's honestly not easy to remember a full year at my age. 😉 The biggest accomplishment (stationery wise) is probably the fact that I managed to finish 38 ink samples this year. That's not as many as 2024, where I finished 57, but then that year I picked out the ones with the least amount of ink, so I had to work harder this year.

yeah, my “planner” is just a glorified todo list, but it’s fun to write stuff down, so why not?
As to journaling, I tried for a long time and couldn’t make it stick, but at some point it worked and I’ve now been doing it for a few years. I need to use my pens and inks, after all. And once the journals are full they go into the trash. The act of writing is what it’s about for me.

Today is day one of year two in my Midori 5 year journal! For the first year I used Rohrer & Klingner Salix in either the Leonardo Momento Zero Micarta or the Jinhao 9016.
The next year will be Platinum Citrus Black and various pens. Starting with the black Asvine V126.

New pen day with this Junlai 630 (aka new version of the Wing Sung 630). This one comes with a B nib and the stamping on this one is much deeper and crisper than the one on the original version.

I believe she compares it to one of them in the video and they do look different. Also, I believe Taccia already has a full range (including zoom and music) steel nibs from Sailor on some of their cheaper nibs (AFAIK) so maybe it’s those then?

A bit late to the party, but wow Yu-Sari paper is great! A bit of tooth to make all nibs write well, but not too much. Great performance otherwise as well.

I really enjoy the Pilot Kaküno. Especially the new Madoromi colors. This is the light blue. And with the CON-70 the pen is heavy enough to feel much nicer than what it costs.
My only issue is that M is the broadest nib. Sure, there are the italic nibs you can use, but those are too sharp for me (as a leftie). BUT you can get Wing Sung fude nibs that fit! That makes the pen perfect for me.

My two Wing Sung / Junlai 930 pens. Leonardo with a #6 nib for scale. They are massive! 🍆
The B nibs on the required a bit of work to get rid of the baby’s bottom, but otherwise the flow is perfect and they’re a job to use. Inking is a challenge with such a nib, so I just unscrew the nib unit and do it that way.
Considering getting the new version with the flat ends, but maybe I’ll wait and see if they come out with some fun colors first.

Here it is, the Asvine C2000. The dyed wood look and feels really good and the no. 8 stub nib is also great. Especially, as it's so rare to see such wide nibs on Chinese pens.
But it's wood ... so we'll have to see if it will hold up or crack eventually.

My translucent Majohn V60 arrived today. Pretty well made pen, but I had to immediately replace the fine nib. I ended up using a fude nib I made from a PenBBS nib.
Filling is a bit of a problem if you try to use samples (like I do) as it's just too wide. ;)

In 2024 I emptied 57 ink samples. 🎉
Some were dried out or super close to ink (looking at you Appelboom), some were horrible and just went down the drain (all of Noodler’s), and some I even used in my fountain pens. 🤣
I’ll continue next year, but I am sure my number will go down, because what’s left are the samples I can (and will) use in my pens.

I took advantage of my bonus points at papierundstift.de to get a Midori 5 year journal. I’ve been super consistent with my journaling, so writing a few lines extra shouldn’t be too bad. And then that’s a journal I might actually keep. Unlike my normal ones, that I throw out once they’re full.

putting nibs into Chinese pens seems to be my MO. ;) Sailor, Platinum, Bock, Kaweco, vintage … They all seem to work. Jowo not so much, at least not when you don’t want to mod the nib.

Not ensure of the use of rollerballs that take #fountainpen ink (like this Online Bachelor). But at less than 5€ I sure can try it out.
A bit scratchy, but ink flow is good (with the included Royal Blue) and I will definitely try using some of my more interesting inks.

I am a big fan of the Parker 51 inspired pens coming out of China. Especially, if they have a more modern design, like this Kaco Retro. Please ignore the wooden bead on the clip, the original one cracked. 🤣 The flow of these pens is always nice, but I prefer a wider nib than the EF/F ones you usually get.
This one is therefore equipped with a fude nib. Actually, my favourite fude as it's small enough to allow for normal(ish) writing.

I am a big fan of all the Parker 51 clones that are coming out of China. Especially, the newer ones (i.e. not Hero) are pretty nice. I would prefer wider nibs, but then there are fude nibs for them available, which make them even more fun.
