We have so many customizability features in software that will never be discovered by most people because it is so overwhelming a morass of settings and menus and things. Of all things, it strikes me that this is probably something we could use an intelligent (local and small) bot to improve. Have you seen anything doing this particularly well?

I guess there is also the challenging bit that you don't necessarily "own" the movie as much as you own access to it as long as the service continues to exist :). I mean, I still buy them too but that's kind of a bummer - it feels like we should give you some downloadable credential you can send to any similar service

Yeah totally. My grandfather was a printer, i think that's an interesting analogy too. It was definitely more of a craft, they printed newspapers and brochures and campaign buttons and signs, etc. They weren't immediately put out of business by the apple ii and printshop, but it was a process where the value of their work slowly declined

I was thinking today about how many of the action movies and even comics of my youth which were enjoyed by both sides of the political isle featured a super wealthy bad guy who was just greedy and petty and liked power... Sure, there were a few wildly wealthy heroes too, but they were also selfless. But it's weird, here we are in reality, it seems like now half the people think Lex Luthor is the hero
