Example:
You owe $15,000 on the loan.
The car is repossessed and sold at auction for $10,000.
There are $1,000 in fees (towing, storage, auction).
Total debt = $16,000.
Sale proceeds = $10,000.
Deficiency Balance = $6,000.
You are legally responsible for paying this remaining $6,000. The original loan effectively transforms into a personal debt obligation.

They screen the DDRs pretty well for hips and elbows but there is the dreaded Degenerative myelopathy they all seem to get if they live long enough.
