I am by no means an expert, but I did manage to read through this quite lengthy theory which I found plausible. According to this, the event happens while valuations are still rising but have stopped rising FASTER.

The challenge I see with "friends of frirends" is that on social networks, we connect and become "mutuals" for so widely differing reasons. Family is one group, but I don't know any in my family being remotely interested in half the weird (to them) topics I follow on here. This will also be true for mutuals not following similar set of topics. The more diverse interests a person have, the less commonality will be apparent between who they follow/their followers/mutuals.
Granted, I didn't give this too much consideration and am always happy to be persuaded by good arguments 🙂

Thanks for the input all. My little person is only 5, so I am not comfortable leaving her all alone when she stuggles. However, I do provide a calm physical space and the standing offer of a hug or closeness if she prefer and chooses that.
I realize some of her struggles may be natural, age related stuff too, but there are other signs indicating her challenge may not be that easily explained.

Our team is moving from Azure DevOps to #Jira. In learning to navigate the new shiny, I happen to hit the very prominently display AI-button “Improve Description” on an Epic. I watch in horror as it starts to omit details and re-write the customer’s detailed description of what they want IT to do here. Luckily, I know this epic because I've been involved earlier. This enables me to catch the subtle changes that significantly alters the intent and meaning of the original text.
The new text is fine, good grammar and 100% plausible sounding, but IT IS NOT CORRECT!!!
Anyone coming in cold to the ticket would not know and then we'd possibly build the wrong thing, or at the very least, waste a lot of time backtracking why the customer claims we're wildly off track.
Scary stuff this #AI.

We’re pretty far into online ad-markets by now, so hopefully companies spending money with the adtech companies do see returns that can justify the cost.
However, in the case of a news outlet, the tracking installed by them also need to generate a steady payout FROM the same adtech ”partners” right?
This all seems like a mostly invisible part of the economy, but the constant growth do indicate that real money is flowing. I often wonder how significant this revenue stream is, as it comes at zero cost to the news outlet. They are simply selling their visitor’s data, because we ”accept”.

Of course, if these are just few-person companies, running mainly automated operations, it's a possibility that the sheer number of "partners" is just a smoke-screen to distract from the fact they are all owned by Google or Meta.

Does anyone know where to find more info on the surveilance economy online? I was looking for an update on the unfortunate Debora Silvestri who crashed so badly yesterday, and of course, was met with "We value your privacy" banner where I could consent to giving away… something?
The Privacy Policy talks about two cookies - both Google Analytics, and two partners for gaining "audience insights". The actual cookie pop-up list 1.709 (!) so-called "partners", many with "legitimate interest". Basically all these are companies nobody has ever heard of.
I know I'm leaking info like IP-address, browser and device details. What I can't understand is how all these 1.709 little leeches can possibly deliver enough value and generate revenue based on this information. Who pays them, and for what?

This is one thing that I have not come to terms with in the new Affinity Studio yet. Earlier, we had three se apps for vector graphics, bitmap editing and layout. Now they are all combined into a single app, and I find it harder to focus on specific tasks.
Granted, I don’t have a lot of hours with it yet and it does provide tailored workspaces, but still. These three activities are mentally distinct from each other in my mind.

I drew another LP cover – one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums, and their tribute to Syd Barret. This is an alternate version that started as a sticker, but has later been used for casette tapes, CDs and LP box sets. The reference for this image is the 50 year anniversary edition of the album.
The original design was created by George Hardie, a graphic designer and illustrator working at Hipgnosis, a London based art design group that specialised in creating album cover artwork for rock musicians and bands. After spending hours and hours with this, I'm in awe of mr. Hardie's skills, creating this (and so many more) using analog tools only.

Cybersecurity is in an especially hard place. When your team does their job perfectly, the impact to the business is simply "nothing bad happened today".
Which nobody notices.
Staffing levels then get questioned: "Well, if nothing bad happens, why do we need to pay all of you? Let's optimize the team." (Optimize is the code word for reduce.)
It's not uncommon that bad things happen after optimization.

Cool! I remember that one.
This was mighty fine work back in the mid-70s I thought. I'm still not clear on how these images were created prior to Photoshop. I vaugely recall a term call "photo montage" and there were a lot of airbrushing, but I've never done anything like this in the analog world.

This is my city. Sergels Torg is generally considered THE centre of Stockholm.
To the left, one of the the entrances to the subway, station T-Centralen. The exit leads out to the plaza with it’s iconic triangle pattern. The tallest building is one of five pretty much identical buildings placed like dominoes in a line behind this one. The offices of the company I work for is located in the next one behind this.
The tall monument is largely made of glass and it can be lit up as needed. The base around it is a shallow pool of water with an array of decorative fountains. (It was empty when I took the reference photo.)

For me, place of origin is not so significant. I grew up less than an hour's drive away from where I was born. Lived there for 19 years before moving out to make a life with my girlfriend. Guess that is where I am "from".
The important thing has always been "home", which is wherever we both have a key. Soon after, where we cared for the children. For me, life has always been a journey and adventure. It has taken me to lots of wonderful places. Where I started will always hold a fondness in my memory, but it is no longer significant for where I am now.
I experience life to a large degree through music and images, and the Beatles song "In My Life" never connected with me until I heard Diana Krall's version.

TBH, I have little experience in reading financial reports, but would these research grants be accounted for separately from the reports from Harvard University?
The federal grants are a far cry from USD 9B, but of course, these may be part of different reporting. Page 6 does indicate that 11% of research related revenue are covered by federal grants though. A grand total of just under USD 700M.

I grew up in Norway. In our teens, me and the boys went around to all our homes to grab lunch at each of them.
However, I do recall it being customary to check with a friend’s parent before seating them at the dinner table. Many families wanted to eat this meal together, not just for the food, but for an update of everyone’s day.

(Själv har jag faktisk svårt att se vilka uppgifter som kan avlasta vårdpersonal tillräckligt för att t.ex. korta vårdköerna, ge oss snabbare tillgång till husläkaren eller slippa sitta timme efter timme på akuten.)
