On notera d'ailleurs que rien n'oblige non plus à choisir une distribution qui propose un GNOME vanilla (Debian, Fedora…). Il en existe bien d'autres qui répondent à toutes tes attentes sans avoir besoin d'installer soit-même tout plein d'extensions. C'est par exemple le cas d'Ubuntu ou de Zorin OS, qui semble avoir le vent en poupe en ce moment.

Je ne veux pas d'icônes près de l'heure (ni même ailleurs) et je ne souhaite surtout pas de menu d'applications (que je trouve incroyablement désuets et mal fichus)
Reste la liste des fenêtres. J'ai longtemps hésité avant de finalement opter pour Dash to Dock (super bien maintenu et qui n'a rien de bancal)
Tout ça pour dire qu'il faut arrêter de généraliser et de projeter ses propres envies.

Bon, je me suis peut-être emporté. J'oublie toujours qu'il n'y a pas que GNOME dans la vie et qu'il existe donc d'autres variantes de Fedora avec d'autres environnements de bureaux, qui ne sont peut-être pas aussi bien pensés et qui emmerdent peut-être bien plus l'utilisateur 😁 🧌

Ça se fait tout seul quand tu éteins ou redémarres ton système. Pour les Flatpak, ça se fait même en arrière plan sans la moindre intervention.
Franchement, je ne vois pas en quoi une Fedora ne serait pas reposante.
Pour dire, contrairement à bien d'autres distributions qui te signalent la moindre mise à jour, ici, puisque ça se fait généralement tout seul, c'est tout juste si t'as un popup au bout d'une semaine sans reboot pour te rappeler de le faire…

Mouais. C'est sûr que le GNOME vanilla ne correspond pas du tout à macOS. Maintenant, un certain nombre de distributions (à commencer par Ubuntu) proposent une version personnalisée de GNOME, avec dock, boutons minimiser / maximiser, icônes sur le bureau… qui sera bien plus proche d'un macOS.

Avec GIMP 3.0.4 en Flatpak, j'ai pu l'ouvrir sans problème. Et contrairement à ce qui a été dit dans un autre commentaire, ça n'a pas pris 5 Go de RAM mais 2,68 (ce qui est déjà énorme, on est d'accord, mais au moins ça fait jeu égal avec Krita…)

Tu rêves. Les principales distributions (Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, RHEL…) continuent de proposer GNOME par défaut.
Linux Mint, qui est particulièrement populaire, propose Cinnamon.
Pour avoir du KDE, j'ai l'impression qu'il faut soit opter pour une variante (Kubuntu, Fedora KDE…), soit le choisir soit-même quand la distribution propose le choix à l'installation 🤔

Pour toute la stack Linux : systemd, PipeWire, Wayland, les portails XDG… il faut au contraire que tous les développements actuels et futurs se fassent autour d'eux.
C'est justement de sortir 50 solutions concurrentes qui obligent les applications à devoir bidouiller et faire des développements spécifiques.
Ce qu'il faut, c'est améliorer la gouvernance de Wayland et simplifier l'ajout de nouvelles extensions.

GNOME Logiciels propose une option pour mettre à jour automatiquement les Flatpak.
Même si ce n'est pas précisé, ça ne fonctionne d'ailleurs que pour les Flatpak. Les paquets DEB / RPM étant considérés comme des mises à jour système devant s'effectuer lors de l'extinction ou du redémarrage du système…

J'ai déjà vu passer des messages similaires qui étaient arrivés à la conclusion que l'outil d'Ubuntu est foireux et qu'il vaut mieux utiliser celui de #GNOME (qui est donc un outil différent)

From what I understand, HDR support is not complete. At the moment, it seems to be mainly useful for playing HDR videos (with a compatible player such as mpv) or for HDR video games. For the desktop environment and everyday applications (which are not yet HDR compatible), it is probably best to disable it for the time being.

J'utilise quotidiennement plusieurs disques externes depuis de nombreuses années sous GNOME et je n'ai jamais rencontré le moindre souci.
Il faut par contre bien penser à déconnecter le disque avant de le débrancher, histoire que le système fasse un démontage propre.
Dans le gestionnaire de fichiers, il est censé y avoir une petite icône d'éjection à côté du nom du disque.

I'm not saying that System76 hasn't made a few useful developments here and there, but these will inevitably remain anecdotal compared to what could have been done by focusing solely on accessibility (Linux is unfortunately light years away from what Apple or Microsoft offer, for example).

Que faire si votre PC n’est pas compatible ?
Rester sous Windows 10 et payer pour bénéficier des mises à jour un peu plus longtemps; changer de PC et mettre au rebus une machine qui fonctionne sans doute encore très bien ou tricher en installant Windows 11…
Mais à aucun moment ça conseillera d'essayer Linux, qui répond pourtant peut être parfaitement aux besoins de l'utilisateur. Tristitude 😥

En matant récemment une vidéo de @npub19y2…yg6n sur Fedora Bazzite, il n'avait pas réussi à booter sur sa clé USB créée avec Ventoy. Même problème avec Rufus. Et c'est finalement avec Fedora Media Writer (qui ne se limite pas à Fedora) que ça a pu fonctionner.
Et ce n'est pas la première fois que je lis ce genre de problème avec différentes distributions. Je te conseillerai donc de refaire ta clé USB avec ce soft, histoire de voir si ça débloque ta situation.

Dans la barre d'adresse, tu peux taper about:support
Personnellement, je commencerai par vider le cache avant de le relancer.
Sinon, t'as une fonction pour réparer Firefox, mais ça fait perdre les extensions (il faut donc penser à noter lesquelles ont utilise) et la personnalisation, ce qui est plus emmerdant. Par contre, tu gardes ton historique, les mots de passe enregistrés et les marque-pages. C'est un peu moins extrême que de repartir sur un profil vierge.

De mon côté, j'utilise beaucoup de raccourcis clavier.
En lisant le rapport et en tentant de refaire les actions demandées, j'avoue avoir galéré à trouver certaines fonctionnalités, alors que j'utilise Nautilus depuis toujours 😥
En espérant que ce soit corrigé dans les prochaines versions. Surtout qu'au vu des recommandations, il suffira la plupart du temps de déplacer les options d'un endroit à l'autre pour répondre à ce qui est le plus attendu…

De son côté, le projet GNOME a commencé à travailler sur les questions de bien-être numérique, ce qui permettra à plus long terme de pouvoir proposer un contrôle parental. Mais à mon avis, il n'y aura rien avant encore une bonne année.
En attendant, c'est clair que ça manque cruellement comme fonctionnalité de base des différents environnements de bureau (je sais qu'elementaryOS en propose un, mais ça reste anecdotique comparé aux solutions propriétaires)
