While straightening some storage this weekend I came across a stash of used vinyl records I had isolated from my collection because they had various degrees mildew infection—that smell spreads even with outer record sleeves. But now that I have built my anti-mildew machine I’m cleaning them up and deciding if there’s room in my collection for any of them.
Currently deciding if I like Fleetwood Mac Tusk enough to keep it.

As quote posts get ever closer on Mastodon I again cross my fingers that they implement it in such a way that is more intentional than just copying what twitter had. That's the route that Bluesky has taken and one of the worst aspects of quote posts is now prevalent that platform.
To wit, people you follow for some of their content, say music, and they are constantly quote posting shitty news and shitty takes, maybe giving their 2cents, but essentially saying, "look at this shitty thing" or "mock this shitty person." And your choices are either block that person, or block everyone that they quote, which... who's got energy for that?
There's got to be a way to turn off someone's quote posts in the same way that you can turn off boosts. And content filters should apply to the quotes as well.

One thing I feel like isn’t widely known is how much free shit wealthy people get. Gift bags, comped meals, businesses going over and above for no extra money. The rich come to expect it. Businesses and brands impressed by wealth thirst for what they perceive as clout/bragging rights. They operate under the impression that it will generate more money, like some weird tithing. I don’t believe it does, but it’s especially crazy that the people who can most afford a consumerist lifestyle pay the least into it.

Not to be old man yells at YouTube but I literally just told it I wasn't interested in a video titled "10 albums the critics love which are crap!" The thumbnail a hipster looking dude making YouTube sour face and giving a thumbs down while holding a later day Yes album. Oy vey.
I mean, I get it, rage bait, it's a living, et cetera, hate the game not the player, et cetera. But just the hubris of aspiring to be some sort of arbitrator of what is good, what is crap on a universal level, so stupid. Like, I'm never going to fully dig a Yes album but I don't expect anyone to have the same taste I do nor do I feel the need to convince anyone one way or another. Certainly have standards, be in discussion with your aesthetics, with the people around you. But being a dick about your opinions about music is such a sad way to go through life.

Carter’s candidacy was the first US presidential election I was really aware of. I remember it quite clearly. My mother and her circle were all Carter supporters. And I just got more radicalized by Reagan and how they ratfucked Carter, how they ratfucked the country. Carter wasn’t perfect—he was still president of an imperial project and didn’t radically challenge that—but he seemed humbled by the experience. Not being paid millions to sanctimoniously lecture us on how we were failing the nation.

Now watching 70s classic Black Christmas. I’ve seen this movie like 5 times and I’m more convinced than ever it’s one of the greatest movies of the 70s. Not just ahead of its time as a horror movie but a tremendous film in all regards. An amazing cast. Excellent locations and cinematography. Sad, funny in moments, and genuinely tense and creepy.
My partner Red has an excellent feminist reading of this film. It’s barely even subtext. A scary testament to being a woman in a patriarchal society.

Last October, over on the blog, I wrote one entry a day about some of my favorite horror movies. Some are lesser known; some are cult classics. It was one of the more ambitious writing projects I've attempted in decades, producing one short(ish) piece a day for 31 days. There's quite a few I'm really happy with. Going to watch PEARL tonight.
Will it be like most Ti West movies for me? Some really great filmmaking, novel ideas, but that of you think about the script too hard there are some aspects that don’t hold up to scrutiny, and the sense that West doesn’t really like the horror genre and kind of hand waves at the more absurd aspects of his scripts.
Still, they’re entertaining movies.

Various Artists - This Is Boston Not L.A.
Playing this and thinking of SpaceAce. One of my favorite pieces of the mystery that was J., his love and deep knowledge of Boston Hardcore. I think in his youth he was bequeathed a lot of zines from someone (his older brother?). I wish I remembered which zine it was. Did it just have a scene report or was it all about Boston? Anyway, he had full albums by most of these bands. He was a faithful fan. He especially liked The Freeze, and this was always my favorite band on this comp. They are clearly such good musicians. I never much got into Boston hardcore much beyond listening to the shit out of this record when I was 16/17. J. was excited about a forthcoming rerelease of a later SSD record on vinyl which he had preordered. :blobcatSad: In fact, my one SS Decontrol record was given to me several months ago from J., when he sent me a pile of his dupes and some cheesecake pictures like it was a WWII contraband.
