What's the problem with the 55%?
In their heads, that nothing-burger of a changed OP_RETURN limit is the end of Bitcoin and now they postulate to stick to the BIP110 rules even if miners fail to signal at 55% or any %%. I find 55% actually the most honest threshold for this kind of fork. New features like SegWit should use slightly higher thresholds as you don't want big re-orgs and 55% is a thin margin in case on fork-day some flip back on their commitment.
There are several possible outcomes here:
1. BIP110 gives up on Aug7
2. BIP110 maintains a minority fork indefinitely like BCH and BSV
3. BIP110 maintains a roughly 50% fork that might or might not re-org into Bitcoin down the road.
4. BIP110 succeeds
n° 3 is the absolute worst possible outcome and the threshold of 55% doesn't affect that one inch. The mandatory signalling on August 7th is the poison pill that makes this fork a desperate measure with potentially catastrophic outcome.
Luckily all this discussion is rather academic by the looks of the respective hash rates.

Unless somethong new came out today, I stand by my post. Neither Luke nor Core want to harm Bitcoin.
Luke could act Machiavellian if he decided Bitcoin was incompatible with his Catholicism which csam could very well trigger but I don't think he intends to harm it now. I think he genuinely believes that bip110 can make a dent in spam.

If that mail wasn't fake it would clearly mean that Foundry was against bip110 as clearly asking members to vote with any non vote counting as "no", a " yes" outcome is impossible to happen.
If there was any demand to signal bip110, a pool will just provide an alternative endpoint for those users.

You are understating the main difference a bit.
By using a bunker, the client can temporarily abuse the keys for things I explicitly allowed but bunker can still hold taps on things I never allowed or throttle the things I did allow in ways the client cannot know.
Bunkers so far are not that sophisticated but I anticipate them to profile behavior and require approval when dark patterns are detected. For example I might allow signing kind-1 events but future bunkers might totally lock up if that happens more than 20 times in a minute. The user could then investigate what happened and increase the threshold or remove the abusing client.

Uncapping of op_return was not a consensus change and resulted in no up-tick of big op_returns as it was already "uncapped" by libre relay. Fork off but I recommend to study the topic well. The changes Core did were technically a code clean up but turned socially into a cluster fuck claiming a new stance on arbitrary data.

Fair points, all four. Where I land on them:
Pixel-flip piracy: this version deliberately has no payouts worth stealing. The creator share is indexed to serving cost - cents per GB - so re-uploading a hot video earns the pirate pocket change while burning a vouched identity. Serving is meant to be a race to the bottom. And people who want free OnlyFans already have BitTorrent, at a better price than "pay a subscription first".
Sponsorship risk: you underwrite your five, not your whole tree. A tier-3 doing nasty stuff is their direct sponsor's problem on first offense. It only climbs toward you on repetition, because sock-puppeting a clean tier-1 to spawn disposable tier-3s must not fly. Graduated liability with depth, not one strike anywhere in the tree and your account is gone. If the reflex is still "then I invite nobody" - fine, leave your slots vacant. The system prices vouching honestly instead of pretending it's free; the empty-slot equilibrium you predict is what every private tracker's invite system disproved for two decades.
Expiry: the five-year-old tutorial is storage-heavy, egress-light - the opposite cost profile of what this model prices. It survives for cents a month via a patron being its paying reader of record, and a proper storage-patronage layer is explicitly version 2 material. But note what expiry buys in return: egress currently has no funding model at all, and demand-driven rent is also the incentive to mirror hot content across servers.
NAS latency: the tier check isn't a graph walk per segment - WoT distance resolves once per pubkey and caches. Per-segment work is a counter decrement. And no, a rural NAS won't host the next streaming event alone. It'll be one of a hundred mirrors of it, which is the entire point.

I have no hard data but at @npub1j9k…uswx we are working on reproducibility. It's our bread and butter and our engineers are heavily using LLMs all the time to reproduce. Without LLM, we used to tell wallet providers "it failed to reproduce" and had very limited resources to dig really deeper and suggest improvements. Now it's just some prompts to an LLM more to get a well researched issue opened with the providers.

Well, youtube enforces that bs precisely because no competitor is near critical mass and by holding up bs rules instead of challenging them in court, they hurt their competitors.
To compete, blossom would need a monetization model that gave it strength in numbers. Any competitor distributing uncut podcasts would get into trouble, so they need to be either too big to sue or small enough to not be worth suing. Blossom could do that latter.

Hosting is never "per mb". You need a time dimension, too.
Those services are not yet very sophisticated. One tier. Maybe three. Can't pay as you go, which probably is because they want something like rent.
Also they probably want you to over pay on your initial sign up to keep out nasty stuff. A service that lets you upload 700mb for a three month hosting a razor margins would get all the nasty stuff quickly.

I was tempted to ask you about hosting it as I would love to validate my idea about "sponsoring your follows" but I don't have the capacity to develop such a product right now. But there should be many angles by which a relay could be profitable. Think status, not features.
Right now, those running free relays are the heroes but sponsoring them doesn't give me status. They get the status and I can mostly silently give them a thank-you zap but that's it.
You could also give each paying customer a limited list of others they want to sponsor, with a promise to reward those who get multiple sponsorships with ways to give those on.
Make it relevant to users and people will want it.
Make the purple user publicly inform his sponsored accounts to get advertisement.

Well. SegWit was a change the economy wanted and miners were sitting on. 17 months of foot-dragging, signaling stuck around 30%. So users drew a line: BIP-148, flag day Aug 1 2017, our nodes orphan any block that doesn't signal. The threat had teeth because the people refusing the blocks were the ones miners needed to sell coins to. Then April 2017 Maxwell drops the covert ASICBoost reveal: SegWit happens to break a hidden efficiency hack some miners were quietly using. Overnight the holdout stops looking principled and starts looking self-interested. Pile that on the UASF pressure and the blockade cracks. BIP-91 gave miners a face-saving 80% off-ramp, and SegWit activated Aug 24 with no split.
bip110 inverts every input. nobody's economy is demanding it. miners don't want it because it cuts their fees. 0.3% signaling against a bar they lowered to 55%. no exchange orphaning anything, no BIP-91 coming because nobody with hashpower wants the destination. same ritual, none of the leverage.

Core surrendered Bitcoin's monetary purpose and almost nobody fought back. That's the BIP-110 story in one line.
First, Libre Relay. Peter Todd's relay was already passing and getting mined the "non-standard" transactions Core refused to relay. It proved the 83-byte OP_RETURN cap was never a rule. Just default relay policy, routed around in practice and increasingly pointless.
So v30 removed the cap. A RELAY POLICY change, not a consensus change. Consensus always permitted this data. Core simply aligned its defaults with what miners were already mining. Libre Relay had made the filter theater. Some read it as betrayal anyway. Matt Kratter called inscriptions ivy: looks harmless climbing the tree, then crushes the trunk and kills both.
September 2025: leaked Signal messages show Luke Dashjr floating a hardfork with a trusted multisig committee to retroactively scrub illegal content, swapping data for ZK proofs. His framing: "Bitcoin dies or we have to trust someone." Never a BIP, but it set the tone.
October 2025: "Dathon Ohm," GitHub account one day old, drops BIP-444. Luke assigns the number and backs it but denies writing it. The original mechanic is the wild one people still misremember as live: REACTIVE activation. A block carrying CSAM appears, the fork triggers immediately and retroactively reorgs that block and everything after it out. The author admits this splits the chain by design and says that's the point. It even claims a "moral and legal impediment" to rejecting the fork.
The room caught fire. BitMEX Research: an attacker just posts CSAM to force a reorg and double-spend. A reorg button for anyone. Alex Thorn: "an attack on Bitcoin." Lopp: who defines "illegal"? Run a node, you consent to the rules. Peter Todd embedded the ENTIRE proposal text on-chain, "100% standard," proving it was trivially bypassable.
So they sanded it down. December 3: BIP-444 dead, BIP-110 born. Reactive CSAM trigger: gone. Impediment clause: softened. Now a boring scheduled soft fork: BIP9/BIP8 hybrid, signal bit 4, 55% locks it in. Signaling opened December 1.
Then: nothing. Through early 2026 signaling sat at roughly zero, period after period. F2Pool signaled AGAINST. Ocean, Luke's own pool, peaked near 2% hashrate in January, fell back to ~1%. Knots node count crossed 22%, which proponents waved around endlessly, but node count isn't economic weight and isn't sybil-resistant.
The demos kept landing. l0rinc found a consensus bug in the BIP-110 code itself. March 1, Habovštiak embedded a 66KB image of Luke crying as a single contiguous transaction, killing the "can't be done contiguously" claim. Lopp kept offering real BTC bets to Luke, Mechanic and Kratter. No takers. The only market that appeared priced BIP-110 at ~98% to FAIL on a couple tenths of a BTC of volume.
Now: mandatory signaling runs blocks 961,632–963,647, starting around August 7. At that height Knots nodes reject any block not signaling bit 4. Lock in and it goes active two weeks later, expiring in ~1 year. Don't, and BIP-110 nodes fork onto a chain almost no hashrate mines, where you wait 50+ days to spend a coinbase. Chain split, or quiet death.
And that's the punchline. BIP-110 tries to weld at the consensus layer a thing that was never a consensus rule, to win a culture war Libre Relay already proved you can't filter your way out of. Signaling's at 0.3%, not one major pool on board. The math says quiet death with a tail risk of a doomed self-fork.
Watch block 961,632. Don't hold your breath.
