Portland police have a long history of not only protecting the far right but collaborating with them, including exchanging text messages with far right that included information on the location of anti fascists. The police union here also has a dark history that’s worth reading about. Formed in ‘42 and was the first successful police union in the country. The first president of the union, Otto Meiners, was a literal Nazi and a a former member of the pro Nazi German American Bund.
Portland police also used to have a “red squad” which was tasked with beating the shit out of and infiltrating, and surveilling labor organizers, communist, anarchists and lefty activists. There was lots of overlap between police in this squad and the Oregon KKK. I think it was around 1923 or so it was estimated at least half of the portland police bureau were members of the KKK. PPB still has a “red squad” it’s just not called that anymore and not as transparent about its purpose.
In the 80’s, portland police officers dropped dead possums in front of a Black soul food restaurant. Also in the 80’s, after Portland police murdered a Black man by putting him in a chokehold, cops sold "don't choke 'em, smoke 'em" t-shirts from one of the precincts on the day of his funeral.
In 2000 a PPB cop placed a shrine dedicated to Nazi soldiers at a public park. The city protected him after this and gave him a promotion almost 10 years later. Even after admitting he wore nazi uniforms and collected memorabilia he was never fired. He even received awards.
After Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson murdered Michael Brown, at least 3 PPB cops altered images of their police badges to say "I am Darren Wilson”
I could go on.. If you know about Oregon’s racist and dark history this probably isn’t a surprise but if not I highly recommend reading about it.

Unsure if coincidental or related to the newly announced “rose city patriots” but today in Portland, OR at Gabriel Park, a group of far right assholes showed up for a pro ICE flag wave by the skatepark.
I don’t know if Peter was there atm, but other fash in attendance included violent far right instigator and propagandist/live-streamer Tommy Allen, Brian Veach (aka Tinkerton), Skyler Jernigan, Shane Carroll and more. All those named have a history of violence and harassment. In 2020 skyler shot a gun out of a car window after harassing protesters, Shane Carroll who I have recently posted about is extremely unstable and has pulled a gun on people outside of the pdx ICE facility numerous times as well as assaulted people, Tinkerton maced someone outside of the ICE facility point blank in the face who was in a wheelchair about a month ago, has a history of domestic violence and harassing children on live streams. All involved with “patriot corner”
The far right assholes were constantly harassing random people at the park today and maced a woman for talking shit to them.

Far right instigator and grifter Peter Walter Patrick (aka Conspiretard), of Coos Bay, Oregon has taken to social media to claim an end to “Patriot Corner.” For those unfamiliar, that’s what the far right assholes have been calling the area at the Portland, OR ICE facility where the far right tends to gather as people protest against ICE. They frequently instigate altercations, start fights, and spew hateful rhetoric and slurs as obnoxiously as possible while manufacturing content and false narratives for their live streams and Twitter feeds.
He is claiming an end to this chapter and the beginning of what they are now calling “Rose City Patriots” (which lol because barely any of them are even from rose city). Their stated goal is to “stand firmly against Antifa” and attend more events and disrupt more protests outside of the ICE facility.
Not sure how much will actually change considering this group has already been showing up to other events outside of ICE in Portland. And although they have been relatively small, they have still been both violent and disruptive. Also worth noting with this shift the attempt to recruit more fascists. So just something to be aware of and be on the lookout for.
A few months ago Peter dressed up in a skull mask to menace children and families at a Coos Bay community dance and Pride event. He arrived with two other fash assholes, Chris Sims and Daniel Vrosh (Danny Rebel). They harassed the Pride Prom and drag show and attempted to intimidate attendees and event staff. The two people he showed up with (who are from Washington) also have quite the track record of inciting violence and harassing people. Including filming and harassing children during school walk outs. The three of them showed up to disrupt the All Ages Pride Prom Drag Show after a call to counter it was put out by right wing extremist Chris Tough aka "Himwho.” Chris has a long history of being affiliated with the areas far right street fighter types, including Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, and threepers.

Again, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen to you, but something to consider since you might not be allowed through without cooperating:
Where are you going
Are you traveling with anyone
Who are you going to see at destination
What are you going to do at destination
How much cash did you bring
How much money do you plan on spending
Did you bring gifts for anyone
Did anyone send gifts back with you
Where are you staying (sometimes exact address)
Who are you staying with
How did you book your accommodations (sometimes they request to see receipts)
How will you be traveling while there (car, public transit, etc)
Have you been there before
While some of these are not uncommon for international travel, many of these have been asked while traveling domestically too. On one of my most recent flights, I was asked a lot of these questions very informally. A dude with DHS was pretending to shoot the shit and it almost felt like flirting (but was very transparently questioning me)

Seeing a lot of “how to prepare” type posts for ICE at airports, which is great… but almost every post I’m seeing has said to turn off biometrics (great) and turn your phone off completely while going through security.
As someone who has been given an insanely difficult time at airports the past 3 years, please don’t rely on turning your phone off alone. It might work for some people, but I’m not allowed past security without showing all of my electronics turn on, and they have to remain on until I get through.
I have quite a few posts detailing my experiences. If it’s helpful I can try to dig them up and reshare. I know it won’t be the same for everyone, but what I go through is pretty intense and maybe getting an idea of some of the things they do will help.

yes says Oregon in OP. he shows up frequently to instigate and be violent. It’s not his first time pointing guns at protesters or assaulting people in front of police. IIRC after he beat someone in front of cops at city hall on Jan 27 they very briefly confiscated his gun but gave it right back. Never arrested
He shows up with and is friends with quite a few far right folks with similar violent histories/behavior in the PNW.

Jurors have reached a verdict for 9 defendants regarding the Prairieland Detention Center noise demonstration in Texas.
This case marks the first time the government has filed terrorism charges against “Antifa." Legal experts have been raising alarms over prosecutors’ theory — arguing defendants, including some who were not even at the demonstration, are part of an organized criminal “Antifa cell” and broader conspiracy.

All this talk of chemical weapons lately reminded me of that two-week(ish) span of time at the end of January 2021 when the feds down at the ICE facility in Portland were spraying people with some kind of teargas using this weird tool that, iirc, was some kind of pesticide fogger that they decided to use to unleash chemical warfare.
There was no way to know what kind of chemicals they were using on us as there were no canisters left behind. People were guessing by the taste, smell, and symptoms.

Gonna take a few days to rest but will be doing a write up on this which includes the experiences of a handful of people. It’s rough. This stuff is no joke. Especially the exposure to HC.

On the 31st, I had a very similar experience to the 24th, as did many others present. They deployed just an insane amount of teargas. If you look at the thread from that day you see the gas clouds lingering ten minutes after it was deployed, stretching for blocks. People got gassed who didn’t even make it near the ICE facility over near the park. My full face gas mask wasn’t doing shit. I tried to get out of the noxious clouds but there was nowhere to escape to. A medic saw me on the ground and wanted to rinse my eyes. I couldn’t see, but that wasn’t my concern. Similar to the 24th, i couldn’t breathe and my chest really hurt. I felt like I swallowed a ball of fire. I assured them that I was ok but they wouldn’t leave my side, no matter how much I insisted. This was a seasoned medic who has a lot of experience on the ground and with proper PPE, and although for me personally I’m confident my mask wasn’t sealed properly that night, they too had the gas penetrate their full face mask. After we walked back to where the crowd was, we learned that was a shared experience amongst many others with full face masks on.
There were *reports* of people seeing HC canisters on Saturday the 31st, but no one I spoke with saw it themselves, nor did I. Rumors of HC happen more and more frequently these days. But by my own experience and the experiences of others on the ground that day, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if it was used again on the 31st.

While it was rough, and heavily impacted a large portion of the city, including people who had nothing to do with the protest, it kind of makes me think that this past Saturday (1/31) there was even a higher chance HC was used. As you can see in the videos the gas was quite intense. The ground was riddled with munitions. But myself and others who couldn’t breathe the night before and week prior were standing in the thick of the smoke and were able to continue. Sure it was a bit spicy, but nothing comparable to 1/24 or 1/31.
I went back to urgent care today as my headaches have been persistent since the 24th. I mentioned before that I do already suffer from frequent headaches, but usually medication makes them go away. These headaches have not budged no matter how much I take. In addition to the teargas period (which is quite common), I’ve also been nauseas on and off since Saturday, have had extreme brain fog, loss of appetite, and the worst of it has definitely been the persistent chest pain with today being the worst day yet. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I was prescribed an inhaler and am getting an X-ray and blood panel tomorrow.
Others have also gotten blood panels done and are awaiting their results. Some of the experiences of others that were shared with me are even worse than what I just described for myself. And again, children, elderly folks and peoples pets are being exposed to these chemicals. All days mentioned people left in ambulances and others went to the hospital. On the 31st there were people passed out on the ground.
Due to multiple lawsuits already filed, a judge in portland is expected to rule tomorrow on a temporary restraining order restricting against “excessive force” by federal agents. Will keep updating as I can.

Portland peeps we need some help!
Some people need to get a blood panel done. Specifically looking to check for heavy metals.
A few questions:
How can people who do not have insurance do this?
What about folks who have OHP but no primary care physician?
If these routes render useless, any recommendations for the cheapest way to do this?
Was told they would not do this testing at the emergency room. Is going to an urgent care who takes OHP and getting a referral for a lab an option? The urgent care centers we have called have sounded clueless. And the ones who did have easy access to these services that we found and tried were far too inaccessible for most people.
Time is of the essence for this.

I’m so stuck on the amount of children teargassed. I cannot even imagine how traumatizing this must be.
There were so many children at the park earlier. There were thousands and thousands of people out. I didn’t see any children near the gate where I was standing but that didn’t even matter. The teargas reached the park, blocks away. More and more people are telling me their gas hardly worked.

I had brand new filters on but I think you’re right. Just tried it on again after decon and I think it’s just on the right side of my face no matter how much I tighten it or adjust it won’t seal properly there’s a little gap. Jurors reached a verdict. Yes on all counts, $600,000 non economic damages, $160,000 punitive between the three of the defendants.
The total is split between them in different amounts, they answered no on emotional distress for Mack Lewis so the $600,000 is between Kramer, Willis and Ponte, $50K punitives for Willis, Ponte, and Kramer, $10K for Lewis.
Not sure what happened but Ponte wasn’t in the room for the verdict and 4 deputies were present. There is some *speculation* that some kind of fight happened and he was detained but can’t verify at this moment.
Write up will be coming soon. Might take a week or two as I plan to go in depth because there is quite a bit of context here that is really important.

It’s a civil case, no potential jail time involved in this trial. The claims are trespass, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and intentional interference with economic relations. They are not asking for a specific amount, but the jury can award up to $1,000,000 per defendant, and they are also asking for punitive damages, which the jury can award up to $9,000,000 per defendant for.

I have no reason to exaggerate. I simply share my own experience, the experiences people share with me, and things I personally have observed. Shane and a handful of other fascist assholes showed up to an anti-ICE protest at city hall today with Tommy (far right grifter). They jumped someone who was talking shit to them. Shane was the main aggressor, and this was all happening as Portland Police watched from like a foot away. Eventually they stepped in to break it up. This photo was sent to me by someone else who was exposed to HC on Saturday. The skin on their face was also quite irritated, but not as bad as their hands which were entirely exposed. They added that they also felt extremely tired, confused, had a soar thoat and felt nauseous Saturday night and Sunday. They told me that they have been exposed to teargas before but had never had this experience.
Someone else reached out and shared their experience as well:
“I coughed up copious amounts of liquid to the point of vomiting after coming home. My whole face looks sunburned. My nose has not stopped running since the exposure and I have had fever like feelings. I’ve been exposed to a lot of tear gas. I’m a 40 year old activist, first major protest when I was 14. I say this not for pity but to share experience and to help keep people better prepared and informed.
Shortly before leaving the facility I started cramping. I have been exposed to teargas many times, it typically takes me two days before exposure begins having noticeable effects on my cycle. 24 hours on munition heavy nights a few times but it’s usually two days or so for me.
I knew something felt off. I typically listen to my gut but I ignored it. I was wearing a full face gas mask. During that last wave of teargas, I was really holding it together while filming. Mostly because my eyes were burning. I took off my mask to clear my eyes after the feds retreated and after inhaling one time I couldn’t breathe. I literally couldn’t breathe. I made it to the sidewalk and was on my knees when a medic came over to help. Drinking water helped the burning feeling a little bit, as it had felt like I swallowed fire. Teargas is uncomfortable obviously but not usually *that* bad and intense. For me anyways. I cleaned off and took a break and remained otg for a few hours. I felt better.
Idk if it’s the adrenaline wearing off or what but I have since felt a lot worse. My skin is decontaminated, but my head is pounding, my stomach is killing me and I feel extremely nauseous.
Turns out the feds deployed HC gas tonight. (Which is not green smoke that many think it is. I have another thread on this I will link in next post)
Luckily the wind was working in everyone’s favor tonight. But fuck.

Decent turnout tonight at the ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. A call to action was put out after border patrol executed Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis earlier today.
Earlier some barricades were put up against the gate where the feds typically come out from, including dumpster that got rolled over. Another door was also barricaded.
Feds have tear-gassed a few times but a ton being deployed right now. Lots of loud booms and lotssss of gas.

All of the various angles out there show that Alex Jeffrey Pretti was filming ICE and had nothing but a camera in his hands before he was piled on, beat while on his hands and knees, and publicly executed. Slowed down footage appears to show one of the agents removing his firearm from his holster before he was murdered. He was unarmed when executed, and his firearm had nothing to do with this to begin with. Other angles show an ICE agent clapping right after he was executed.
They shot him at least 10 times while he was face down. Violence is the point. Murder is the point. Any remedy that isn’t total abolition is inherently violent.

Antisemitic, Islamophobic, self proclaimed Nazi Edward Jacob "Jake" Lang showed up with a very small group in Minneapolis today. They were vastly outnumbered by at least a few hundred antifascists chanting him down to the point his hate speech was not heard. After failing to make their way into a closed City Hall and getting stuck in window recess, they got chased out by hundreds of people.
His “crusade march” didn’t happen because of the community response, and he was unable to burn a Quran like he had planned.
His plate carrier was left behind after he escaped by running through a hotel and leaving out the back before jumping into a car. In multiple shots he appears to be covered in water, snow, and even had blood dripping down the back of his neck.

here’s a video of how HC burns and what it looks like (in that same thread I quoted).
HC smoke burns a dark grey color, sometimes yellowish depending on how close to the canister the smoke you're observing is. The canisters for HC remain on fire, often with flames shooting out of the top, and the canister itself is so hot you'll see it glowing brightly the entire time it is lit.

A Ribbit Rave is happening down at ICE in pdx where an inflatable “frog brigade” said they would be premiering a new dance. ooh ok so this recipe is more like the breakfast version of fatteh (which could be made for any meal because it is quite filling but it is a bit different).
Chickpeas with breakfast fatteh is definitely the way (if you ever want to try that one I have a better recipe for you and it’s even easier to make than this one)... for this meal though with rice, I think maybe tofu would be better for vegetarian? I've never had it like this, but as far as flavor and texture goes I think maybe cut into thinner pieces and fried (or prepared so it's a little crispy on the outside/has a bite) would be really good.
We also use the chicken stock from the chicken in this recipe to cook the rice, which adds a lot of flavor. So I would find a really rich umami veggie stock, or at least season the rice well.
Would also recommend either skipping the tahini altogether, or if you want to use it just adding the tiniest bit. A drizzle at most.
For the fried Syrian bread, it’s usually layered on bottom for breakfast version but on the top for the dinner version. (Though I always do the top because the crunch really elevates the dish imo).
The browned butter and nuts on top is also key. Pine nuts are expensive as hell where I am, a great substitute is slivered almonds. Or you can pan fry a mixture of the two which we also often do. If you can add even a little bit of pine nuts though I recommend doing so because they have such a unique flavor. You can use butter, or olive oil, or even a mix of the two to do this. You want this to be the very last step. Make sure the dish is already assembled an then immediately pour it over. The sizzle is satisfying and it warms everything up a bit.

Closing arguments have begun. State is on first. “this case is in the videos. for two separate instances.”
“the message itself is not being targeted, I cannot highlight that enough.” Prosecutor didn’t say this isn’t a political prosecution but he alluded to it.
Now he is reminding the jurors of the police testimony, saying her heading towards the jail is admission of guilt (even though the police were in communication with her that day, and didn’t arrest her, they literally let her go and said she was free to leave).
Speaking on the second incident in April, he called it a “scuffle” even though she never resisted and it was the police who took her down in her arrest. Now he is showing the jurors a picture of a bloody finger, detailing how she was “shrieking in pain” and calling out for “the boys” (other officers) to help… again defendant was acquitted on these charges after the cop lied in her testimony and the evidence didn’t back up her claims.
Prosecutor now claiming that defendant yelling things such as “fuck you” and arrest me” is proof of guilt and escalating the situation. He continued saying that the officer’s testimony about being injured not added up shouldn't be used against her since it was over 2 years ago. Yet the prosecutor was just trying to discredit the defendant for not remembering exact details from over 30 years ago

I have been at a trial all morning for an Indigenous community member who was indicted after writing on a police precinct window with a washable chalk paint pen. The first incident was on 3/3/23, and the second on 4/23/23. When the indictment came in, incidents from both days were lumped together. I didn’t get permission to take notes on my computer until after lunch so I will try to catch up and update briefly.
After opening statements the State has brought in 3 witnesses, all with Portland Police. The defense attorney told the court that “this is nothing more than a politically motivated prosecution.”
On March 3rd, the chalk on the window said “kidnapping is wrong,” and on April 23rd, it said “!F” (the rest of the message got cut off before the defendant could continue. Defendants charges include criminal mischief 2 and assault of a public safety officer (felony).

Good morning! I’m currently at Beaverton High School in OR where a mass student walk out has just started to demand a proactive ICE protocol for their school and district.
Students say that similar walkouts were planned at multiple other high schools, including Aloha, Sunset, Southridge & more.
One students says they want the district to collaborate with neighboring districts that have implemented more proactive plans, and to coordinate community response plans for when there are reports of ice activity on/nearby school grounds.
Other schools in neighboring districts have connected with rapid response networks. Students say that there are already teams like this organized in the area and ready to work together

Just got home from another ridiculously stupid night at the portland ICE facility for “patriot weekend”
When I arrived there was already what appeared to be an altercation… except for it wasn’t. Cam Higby (fash grifter content creator) was live streaming and trying to get a rise out of whoever he was talking to. There were like 2-3 anti ICE protesters and they were circled by at least 40 far right live streamers, who were circled by portland police bike squad. A grifting clown show.
All the same far right people from last night were out again. Enrique Tarrio, Skylor Jernigan, black rebel, David Willis, Kerry Hudson, Paul Davies, blah blah the list goes on. Definitely more of them tonight than last night. I could probably count on my hands how many of them were NOT streaming.
They spent most of their time a block away from the ICE facility. A few times a small group of them would stand in front of the building then go back.
Shortly before I left there were about 5 or so anti ICE protesters in front of the building as the chuds began marching over as a large group. Within literally 5 seconds they surrounded the protesters and started pushing them. From the outside, you couldn’t see exactly what they were doing or who was doing it because it was a decent sized group and they had them surrounded. PPB bike cops rolled over and separated them. There’s no way they saw what exactly happened but everyone could see that they came over and started shit. They were apparently asking people for video to corroborate the victims story but that’s just something I overheard.
As the large group was in front of ICE to film some content as they begged for more donations, they chanted “fuck antifa” as Tarrio stood front and center, also live streaming. Then they chanted “whose streets? Our streets!” which, lol, none of them even live in Portland! And then “whose house? Our house!” ?? weird thing to chant about an ICE field office but ok.
Just a clown show through and through.

So if I make a mastodon account on a different server that isn’t kolektiva, I can then search my posts for specific words? Am I understanding this correctly?
I’m still trying to rebuild a new research protocol after the fall of Twitter and so much moving around. I’m working on a new article that needs quite a bit of research work and I’m reminded how difficult it is to look for old coverage after moving platforms 🫠 I also constantly forget how useful hashtags actually are on mastodon.. and when I do remember it’s generally just whatever city I’m in or something like that. I’m not tagging every nazis name or every key word, which I am kind of regretting now but there has to be a better way?

Y’all I am so exhausted, before coming to Newport I was doing something and had an ICE encounter in Pdx (will share about that soon, it’s been a long day)… but I just have to say this real quick.
I love the Oregon coast. There is no coast in the world like it. Its breathtaking eeriness is something I will always cherish. But whenever I come I either interact with no one at all and am emo on the beach, or I chat with a few random people here and there.
What I witnessed today was so beautiful. Everyone was so kind and lovely. And the things people were saying were so heartfelt and… idk. It was just so genuine.
I feel like sometimes in a bigger city (especially one that is so fucking white *cries in Portland*) there’s unfortunately just a lot more performative sympathy and activism. There’s just so much ego involved. It’s nice being in a more rural area and hearing people genuinely care and fight for one another. I’m not saying that it doesn’t exist in Portland because it does. But not like this. It’s just different. I know there’s a lot that goes into that, and unfortunately I am not awake enough to dive into the politics of it all. But yeah…

they mentioned job postings for Newport regarding corrections officers for the detention facility, medical staff, and transportation drivers but no word of intent to withdraw. I’ll look into it tomorrow I’m far too tired right now 😅
