Barney Frank died Tuesday at 86, two days ago, and I find myself sitting with a memory I've carried for almost 40 years. I was 18, a PoliSci freshman at GW, newly arrived in DC and still figuring out if I'd made the right call coming here. Then I got to hear Barney Frank speak. There’s real fuckery around Virginia’s redistricting vote, mostly because the ballot language sounds cleaner than the actual fight. The question is whether Virginia should temporarily let the General Assembly redraw congressional districts now, before 2031, in response to redistricting moves in other states. YES means a new legislature-backed map takes effect for the next few cycles. NO means the commission-era map stays in place. The whole fight is really about process, precedent, and power.

America really sucks at being an authoritarian state. People trash Trump all day and are not hauled off to prison. Protesters get in the faces of armored federal agents and are not mowed down in the streets. No gulags for comedians, no late-night host purges, no Kent State-scale bloodletting in half a century. I really liked Starfleet Academy and thought it was genuinely inventive. My only real complaint is that it probably should’ve just been about high school kids instead of college-age cadets, because a lot of it plays with high school dynamics anyway. Still, I loved the show and I’m honestly sad to see it go. What makes it even stranger is calling it canceled when it only just finished season 1 and there’s still a whole season 2 coming. That’s such a weird limbo, but I really did love it.

So the constant attack does not weaken him. It’s an overpriced, handmade, British-made dry-wax cotton ripstop bag with nice hardware, a zipper, an internal pocket, and a key loop, but it’s not really a bag so much as a wearable pouch, musette, or dump bag. I run an EDC x220 in Linux Mint with wonky feet so I bought a thick natural veggie tanned leather rectangle to act as a portable desk pad. It's weird and quirky but it works for me and I thought it might be amusing to see my hack.

My bombastic theory is that Trump is running a series of emergency economic levers to avoid presiding over a recession. First it was tariffs to force domestic production and supply chain reshoring. Courts start blocking them. Next came mass deportations, which would trigger massive enforcement spending and tighten labor markets. Judges slow that too. So the pivot becomes defense spending: burn through missiles, replenish stockpiles, and pump billions through the defense industrial base.

I highly recommend just spending some time with the app called Hallow. If you're not Catholic you can really just listen to gospels and things like that. I find it really useful. There's also this other app by use: Evangelizo. It's free.

I want to start sharing things like this more often to get a more positive note but I don't want to be that prideful a****** I want to be the value add and share and conduit. So if I start acting all Joel Osteen please let me know. That's not fair I really like Joel Osteen. But I definitely don't want to be on mega Church about it. If anyone in the entire world, at any point, had told me that I am an amazing writer with insightful magic and a special voice, I might say no to AI; however, nobody has ever said that, ever, in my entire life. So, to me, text is simply a delivery vehicle for my ideas. Why build a pistol when you can just buy one and just spend your time making special handloads. I prefer to make bullets and not pistols, so to speak.
