It’s a reminder that money mostly scales comfort and experiences, not fulfillment or meaning. Many of us are already richer in time, relationships, and everyday joy.

Back in Chicago for work this week — a bit of déjà vu. From 2006 to 2010, I worked in this very building (not for the Federal Reserve though).
Standing here today, I can’t help but think: there’s an entire building of people whose job is to influence — or let’s be honest, manipulate, the money supply. Multiply that by 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks and the scale becomes hard to wrap your head around.

I spent 4+ hours watching Lex Fridman interview Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram. I can’t stop thinking about it.
Pavel’s charisma is subtle but powerful. He seems to carry a sense of ease, peace, and freedom that’s rare to see today. You can literally see the gears turning before he answers anything. You’d be surprised how many people quietly feel the same way. The system we work in today rewards profit and “efficiency” over well-being. Most employees, especially in public companies, live with the constant fear of being replaced or cut. It’s even tougher later in your career, when experience and higher pay start to feel like liabilities instead of assets.
You’re absolutely righ, checking in, listening, and showing real care for each other matters more than ever. Sometimes just being heard can make all the difference.
I know the feeling. Having young kids makes the pressure to provide and protect feel even heavier. It’s like I’m racing against time to keep them safe and innocent for as long as I can.

Had a #Bitcoin chat today with my developer friend — the one who got a Strike wallet a couple months ago and started dollar-cost averaging (mostly, I think, just to get me off his back rather than out of real conviction).
His (predictable) takes on Bitcoin as “money” were:
• It’s still mostly a speculative asset, not a stable medium of exchange
• Too risky and volatile.
• Most people are naturally risk-averse
• Most Bitcoiners are in it for profit
• The U.S. dollar, historically, has been relatively stable
I used my standard lines to strike down these comments. How do you address these questions to your family and friends? It’s amazing why when it comes to money it’s so hard to show them why they are losing even though they see it. I get that it’s a change to a system as old as time. But throughout history money has changed. We are lucky enough to be witnessing and being part of the version upgrade in our lifetimes.

I’m with you on everything except number five. In the U.S., we pay capital gains tax. The wealthy don’t, because they borrow against their assets instead of selling. We’ll never want to sell our bitcoin either, but we’ll still need to spend it somehow. That’s where borrowing or lending it out comes in. We’ll either loan our bitcoin to those who ignored us today, or borrow against it ourselves at low rates.
