But the birds were singing as if it was the first day of spring, and then I spotted some nuthatch zooming up and down a tree trunk. But for the price of a packet of seeds worth it if they perform and I get loads of scented flowers in early May. The bed was chopped and dropped a month ago and covered with cardboard. Lifted today and cardboard with accompanying slugs went on the compost. All my beds get this treatment and it does help with slug control.
