Went to Trader Joe's in DC today. Parked in a handicapped spot, got out with my cane, found the elevator broken — stairs only.
Talked to store manager. No repair date. No alternative access plan. But I did get a "disabled customers are a priority."
The ADA passed in 1990. Thirty-six years later and "have you tried the stairs?" is still a thing. 😤

My nephew's wife, Abby, learned to knit off the internet during the pandemic. She made these for my mother-in-law (her grandmother-in-law) this year for Christmas, and I am absolutely blown away by the level of detail.

I was so angry. I went into CVS, honestly couldn’t remember what I was there for, gave up, and left. They were all congregated outside the CVS so I had to walk through them to get out. Again, I stopped. “I want you to know where I’m coming from. I grew up in Beirut. I’ve witnessed civilians being shot. And this is how it started. I worked with military families for 12 years - I know you, I know your partners, I know your children. THIS is your legacy? Shame on you.”

Y'all, I lost it.
I was walking to CVS a block from my office in Dupont Circle. a group of eight NG were crossing the street and we all had to wait for the light together, and then crossed. Someone yelled "Fuck you! Go home" and one of the Guardsmen yelled back "Have a nice day!"
I stopped and said "NO! We are not have a nice day. And you know why? It's because YOU ARE HERE. Stop telling us to have a nice day. It's offensive and you know it's insincere."

This potted calamansi lime has been the belle of the ball this past summer! It winters in the south facing window of my office. In the summer it sits outside in our back yard, reveling in the heat and humidity of D.C., filling the heavy night air with it's lovely perfume.
This is the second time it's bloomed this season. Already, limes are forming from the June bloom.
I think I may have just enough to make some marmalade this year!

My little front porch garden has given me so much joy! We’ve enjoyed fresh basil now for a month and enough left to make some pesto; fresh rosemary, chives, and tarragon, mint for tea, and the jalapeños are coming in.
In the backyard, the raspberries are so heavy that the canes are drooping over from the weight. Clearly they are thriving on neglect!

Dinner at a restaurant tonight. After we are seated, a young man is seated at the table next to us. He makes a video call on his phone. No headphones - so he turns up the volume on his phone to match the noise in the restaurant. This creates a buzz in both hearing aids, and i can't hear my friends.
I turn and ask if he has headphones. He sneers. "No." I don't quite know what to say. "Do you want me to end the phone call?" he throws at me. "Yes! Do you mind?" "Yes, I do," he quips.

That's a beautiful view made alive with your story! My two standard poodles take such good care of me on days that I'm bed bound. My favorite is when they lay on either side of me with their heads on my chest. Ahhhhhhh.
