As soon as you leave the world of asphalt and concrete, temperatures drop considerably, even if you literally just take a few steps away from the city and into nature. The heat is not only due to the heatwaves. It's also because these concrete jungles don't cool off the way nature does. It's called the Urban Heat Island Effect. Our cities are gigantic ovens.

From what I understand about Mastodon now, the more people I follow, the better chances I have to find discussions I'm interested in. Not that it's a complete Catch-22, but it’s certainly hard to start discovering things when your following list is quite short. Does anyone have recommendations from the world of literature, science, or art?

Thank you! I’ve never heard of her. It’s interesting that it says she writes “crime novels.” Maybe that’s what all detective stories are called nowadays.

Does anybody still write or publish true detective stories nowadays? You know, like those about Holmes or Poirot, where you have to pay attention and think.
