Last Notes npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Mostly just a good PR opportunity as far as I could see. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I would invite you to try out my own take on this, which is simply an AI thinking partner and mirror. It's not a relationship, just a way to help you organise your own thoughts, whilst trying to avoid as much bias from the AI as possible. https://steadyon.ai npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone She's arguing against a straw man though. No intelligent LLM will answer that question that way. example.. Do you like apples?... "As an AI, I don't eat or have personal preferences, so I can't experience the satisfying crunch of a fresh apple! However, from an informational perspective, I definitely appreciate them. They have a fascinating botanical history, come in thousands of distinct varieties, and are incredibly versatile in everything from sweet pies to savory salads. Plus, there is endless data out there on how to bake, ferment, and cook with them!" npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Psyops are a government psyop npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I feel like there was such a strong drive and movement around that in around 2021, encompassing BTC on chain, Lightning, and even BCH. And then suddenly it all just stopped. In fact since the 2022 bear I haven't seen anyone really even suggest it. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I think that's a bit of a red herring though because those aren't the crimes that victimise ordinary bystanders. It's always been the case that most murderers know their victims, same with shootings. What people are worried about is low level petty lawlessness, thievery, and assaults. So it's a red herring to say that you're less likely to be killed in a world where you feel less safe. Especially if you're looking at just total numbers, and not someone's personal numbers. E.g I'm not going to suddenly join a gang on the wrong side of town and get into a shooting. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone This is bang on. Unfortunately though that means growing little economies from grass roots, rather than relying on corporate adoption. And that means merchants wanting to accept it, off the books, no paper trail, which ironically in a very digitised world is actually less likely. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone That just makes it seem like they're a middle man though between the customer and Mullvad without offering any additional value. And ironically it adds another supplier in the chain, reducing security and adding another trust point. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I don't know, that just looks degenerate to me. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Why will you be up all night? npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone That's interesting because I'm finding the opposite. I thought when Fable was released that 4.8 was dumbed down, but now that Fable has been taken down that they've made 4.8 great again. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Just to help me understand this, why would I run a napp over an app? What's the benefit, either for a developer or even for a user? I'm not doubting this is incredible, i'm just struggling to process what this is. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone China? npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone The only solution is for people to grow a conscience and just fully open source the models. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone It's pretty shocking. Actually a very aggressive move, and it points to a future where there's a whole new category of 'global south' countries npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone My wonderful wife, who is a self published author, has her new kickstarter campaign launching soon. She's been working incredibly hard on it (honestly countless hours go into setting up special editions like this, let alone actually writing the books), so if you're at all interested in romantic fantasy fiction, please do check it out, and I hope you enjoy: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/victoriajprice/a-legacy-of-storms-and-starlight npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Too close for culvert 😆 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Truly terrifying 😆 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone This looks awesome. Just to ask, how does it actually work then without a coordination server? npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Well the concept started with the idea that humans have the best ideas, and that AI is really just good at helping to record those ideas, synthesise long rambling voice notes, and at best, just ask the right questions to really get the best out of the user. Then it sort of evolved from there, and for a while it was going to be a sort of therapy app, but not really, more like something aimed specifically at men who know what they need to do, and need/prefer an action oriented approach to planning, getting things done, and generally sorting out their lives. Then I did a series of experiments with various AI models and I was shocked to discover some awful gaslighting, and actually exactly as you put it, prompt injecting the human mind. I'm going to write up some big blog posts about this, but basically I came up with a very complex relationship situation and told the story from a male perspective, a female perspective, and then flipped it round so that it was told by the other parties involved in the same story, also another male/female, so 4 perfectly consistent versions of the exact same scenario, and I was quite sickened by the results. So then I was basically back to the drawing board. But after months of tweaking, I now think I've got what is basically an AI thinking partner that respects the user, doesn't gaslight, and doesn't have too many inherent biases or ingrained cultural biases. And then in terms of what it does, at its core it's effectively a chat bot, but it will make 'action items' for you which are basically todo list items, and also 'resources' which are basically documents. And it has a very innovative memory system if I do say so myself. And then as the real icing on the cake, there's a feature that I came up with called 'spaces', which are multi-user spaces which have their own memory (so no leaking of personal memories as they're all ringfenced), and it allows multiple people (could be 2 people could be dozens) to be in the same conversation with the AI at the same time. And the spaces have their own memories, the AI is aware of who's who even between sessions, and it can be used for planning, couples counselling, anything really. And honestly I'm extremely proud of having multi-user simultaneous AI chat as I've not seen another product doing that. Anyway the reason why I particularly wanted to respond to what you said though and see if you wanted to try it is that you specifically mentioned prompt injecting the human mind, and I've been working a lot on the bias, gaslighting and subtle manipulation issue to try and stamp it out. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I would really like you to try out my new project steadyon.ai and see if it increases or lessens your concerns around this, because I do think you make an interesting point and it's something that I want to avoid in Steady On obviously, but it's also something I'm relatively confident that I've addressed. Anyway if you're up for testing with some free credits please DM me. And that goes for anyone else reading this who's interested. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone OK so because it's as ready as it will ever be, I think this a good time to promote the tool that I've been working on for around 6 months now. I hope I've managed to achieve an AI thinking / organization tool which is genuinely helpful, doesn't gaslight the user, and doesn't promote AI psychosis. https://steadyon.ai npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Basically, some people have ADHD. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Thank you for sharing, I'll read/watch all of this. You must have really been through hell, I can't even imagine. And I guess what's so awful about it is that it's just low level petty injustice. You can't point to anything that's been blown up. They just blew up your life. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Also aside from the ethical and funding points, what do you see as the main differences between the Keonne/Bill and Sterlingov cases? Sorry for all the questions but you seem obviously very informed on this and I'm not, and I've been a bit unsure about what I've been seeing people post. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Can I ask about your case? I hadn't heard about it before. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Just to second this. I used to listen all the time, but I've become tired of hearing literally the same few talking points again and again. Frankly we need less talk and more action. We need way more day to day p2p use and adoption. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone GM npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Jessie still with us at 16. She's so old now and often very stumbly. But she's also so brave. https://blossom.primal.net/8ed2f8621bb60183b54850e7956efd2bb44e0ca2127340ea33ca76c693d5ec46.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I think the network of apps is truly the only hope. And more apps that just so happen to use Nostr because it's the best tool for that job, rather than for its own sake. And that really means even some individual features of an app using Nostr and others not. E.g just the login system and one type of data that the user might want to share, but not another bit that would be faster or better if it actually wasn't using Nostr. Also not marketing an app as a Nostr app, just a good app, even if you've never heard of Nostr. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Well ironically in a homogeneous society, and one with a clear sensei of purpose, they would be right to do that, because you can't maintain a society without reinforcing its expectations. If I throw litter on the ground and someone says 'we don't do that here, pick that up'', that's actually fine as far as I'm concerned (and most other people I'm guessing). The question is, where do you draw that line? Is it wearing / not wearing the right sort of hat in public? There has to be a line or you don't have a society at all. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Which people? People in your life e.g family, loved ones who have some expectations of you? Or people who have no idea who you are? If it's the first, then yes, people tend to get upset when you abandon them. That's not a failing on their part. If it's the second, then why would you care what they think of a fictional version of you that they must've made up anyway? Unless there's some other people/groups I'm overlooking? Like work colleagues or something? npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Probably at least 3 months realistically. I've got another project ready to launch basically now, so I want to get that 100% released. Then I've got some stuff I really have to work on for my main business (gotta eat after all), and then I'm looking forward to getting uwrite finished off. I'm actually really hyped about it but i'm just trying to be all grown up with priorities and getting things properly finished, which is quite a challenge 😅 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Yes I completely with all of these points ❤ I'm not under any illusions that value for value will ever be a significant source of funding though. Or more precisely, I think it will take a very long time to even start getting close to fiat funding, like decades. But I'm OK with that and I think most are too. We've got to just do it for the love regardless. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Lol that's so true, and depressing 😂 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone It's a shame that it's not live yet but I'm working on a dedicated blogging platform and Substack alternative called uwrite.blog . hopefully I'll have it finished within the next quarter, that is to say within the next century measured in 2026 software delivery speed. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I'm working on a dedicated Nostr blogging platform / Substack alternative with that very goal in mind. It's going to be called uwrite.blog 😁 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Well if I have an account and I say "I'm Bill and this is what I think..." and then I make another account saying "Hi Bill, I'm Ben, I just want to say that you're so clever and so correct about all of this. You're amazing, and I say that as a totally separate human being who's never met you before"... then clearly that's manipulative, because someone reading those posts gets the impression of organic engagement which in fact doesn't exist. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone An auspicious milestone for the Jaaag https://blossom.primal.net/220d63b8983617fd475970b1a73db7e4f2353aa40dcaba52945d6c327e557b50.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Just downloaded now and posting this from Wisp. Very cool. A few questions... It's unclear what some of the icons below the message input box do. E.g what is the shield? And what's the warning triangle? Or the bar graph icon? Those 3 (unlike the image post icon or the schedule post icon) don't give any immediate feedback when you tap on them, so there's no easy way to discover what they do. Also how/where do you post emojis? Or is there no dedicated button for that? Also just to say thanks for all your amazing work. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I think things like this just go to show that Bitcoin will actually do better outside of 'the system', and shows its value as adversarial money. I don't think it does any harm if the system does accept us, and does bend to us, but I just don't think that it will (at least not in the short/medium term). I think that it will make technically un-enforcable demands, and that will accelerate Bitcoin's adoption outside of the system. And I think the same is true for any privacy tech, open source in general. The more they push, the more people are forced into finding solutions that actually work for them to stay free. But I really do see the value in organisations like the Bitcoin Policy Institute engaging in a dialogue with the system and highlighting issues. And if it tips things slightly in our favour, or slows down the rot, it's obviously very worthwhile. At the same time though I don't know how they have the patience or the energy for it. I'd just say fuck it and assume that everyone is going to have to figure out safe custody models for themselves and merchant adoption and transactions etc all completely outside of the system. But I guess that's why I'm not a politician, because my instinct is just to go around them. Obviously more sociable and politically savvy people have the energy/patience to get involved and that's great. I'm just saying, Bitcoin doesn't know or care what the laws are in Kentucky either way, and that's its biggest strength. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Aww that's so cute 😁 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Average Nostr user at home... https://blossom.primal.net/da6f64350ba7df197d75ebbd9283e9eff18398677e3775b8aa8f7431e6df8c28.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone And in a reply on X it was revealed that he was operating 2-3 other accounts to "support" his monetised account. The really shocking thing is that he (and several other people apparently) couldn't see anything wrong with that. I mean first of all, what a massive waste of time. But also, how could he not see how manipulative that is, and why that might actually warrant being demonetised? Saying that, I would prefer if people like that stayed on X rather than clutter up Nostr, but still... npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone "might need to get a real job". Roasted 🤣 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Very good point about Segwit and Taproot being consensus changes. And they're all soft forks, so in that sense it's also the same. But, and this is a big but, nobody lost anything (as far as I know) from Segwit and Taproot, e.g. they restricted previously unused functionality in such a way to make the unused functions usable, i.e. giving them structure to actually create new monetary use cases. It just so happened that by enabling new monetary use cases, they also enabled new non-monetary use cases as a side effect. As you pointed out, that is different to BIP110 which is a minority of users trying to add restrictions to functionality that other people are actually using right now, not to enable any new use cases, but to take them away. I'm not sure how I feel about that myself, I'm really on the fence still. But it is important to acknowledge that BIP110 will limit potential monetary use cases on Bitcoin (which would be the sorts of things that would improve scaling and privacy) purely to stop JPEGs on chain. And in all honesty, as someone who's all in on Bitcoin and who runs a node, I'm not sure I care at all about JPEGs on chain. I can't see how it's affected me. I mean, I already had a 2TB SSD for my node, if I have to increase to 4TB on day then fine. And I don't care about JPEGs that I can't see, they're not bothering me. What I'm waaaay more worried about is that nobody is really using Bitcoin! All this energy would've been way better spent figuring out how to get actual adoption, because blocks are mostly empty, the chain is just dead, I don't see any merchants trying to adopt it. It's just crickets out there. Suit Coiners everywhere, and everyone else has just moved onto AI. And then people go on about how "agents are going to transact in sats because they can't get a credit card", and I just think HA, watch how fast the powers that be figure how to get regulatory permission and capture to give AI agents credit cards (or access to their human's cards), and how mindlessly most people will just use whatever walled gardens they're placed in. So at this stage I feel like Bitcoin is in a massive fight to stay relevant and actually build a network effect, and we're here arguing about JPEGs on chain, and I've never seen one of these JPEGs or had any awareness of any downsides as my node sits there running. But I do worry about messing things up, especially if there are monetary use cases to Segwit/Taproot in their current form. And I worry far more about Bitcoin just stalling out from lack of adoption. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone But now you're doing it. You said BIP110 isn't changing Bitcoin, but that is literally what it's doing, changing the consensus rules. The thing that comes closest to the statement of defending what Bitcoin was is running Knots. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Sorry forgot to reply. Basically the original argument was that Core fundamentally changed Bitcoin when they changed the op return limit. As in, they had changed the way Bitcoin worked at a network level. That also means not just for nodes running that software, but for everyone on the network. But when BIP110 was first introduced, it was framed as 'Core have changed Bitcoin, we want to change it back.' That message may have changed now, but that was certainly the original framing. Then as time went on the community level of understanding about the difference between relay policy and consensus policy deepened. I had no idea about any of this before this whole drama, and neither did most people. But now it's quite apparent that Core didn't change the consensus rules, they just changed the default policy to match consensus. And quite the opposite, it's BIP110 which is actually a change to Bitcoin, and not just for the people running it, but for everyone else too. That's the only sometimes dishonest feeling thing about the framing, just that it keeps shifting npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone One way I like to think about it is: Your node allows you to control YOUR experience of using Bitcoin, but it doesn't give any control over the network. So the reason to run a node is really to verify your own transactions, not other people's. But that cuts both ways. A node run by an exchange or a miner can't determine your experience of using or verifying Bitcoin either. However all nodes agree to the consensus rules, so only changes to the consensus rules matter. Otherwise you can just run another client or an old version. And to be honest I'm on the fence about BIP 110 because I feel like a lot of the time it's either framed dishonestly or a lot of supporters don't understand it. Men should always strive to be so good that it's intimidating. That's being respectable. Lesser men can't be respectable, so they can only be scary. And of course women should be able to tell the difference, respect a good man, and stay away from the scary ones. But you can flip that round. A good woman should be strong and graceful, and men should respect that. A weak woman will wield sex as a weapon, and men should know to stay away. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Thank you! npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone https://i.nostr.build/gXdI2LitspA7gKLy.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone https://i.nostr.build/qYHyHNqgWdwoIlbN.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone To be honest I don't even know what the documents were (only heard about this in the UK through the usual propaganda slop factories). But as a thought exercise, let's say he did have the documents at his place. What's your take on that? and does the recent revelation change your opinion? I'm just curious to know because of the way you asked the question in response to the news. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Ah that's interesting. I've been generally ok, but what I did do was I installed regular old Ubuntu (BTRFS by the way, ZFS also too much hassle), then I installed the KDE full (meta package) on top, and just reconfigured to start with SDDM display manager and launch into KDE. So effectively Kubuntu but starting from an Ubuntu base. And then sometimes I'll randomly decide to switch back to Gnome for a bit and sometimes I prefer KDE. But the great thing is that I have everything available and any possible dependencies. Weirdly that's been super solid, although during one upgrade it made me uninstall KDE but not during the next upgrade. But yeah, I like it, and then whenever I try out other distros I just seem to be cursed entirely (Fedora for some reason is utterly cursed for me, just bizarre problems straight out of the gate on VMs or bare metal), or I end up spending months messing about with something and then saying what's the point in this even existing. On the ZFS point, if you read what people say on the internet, ZFS is soooo much better than BTRFS and it's clearly the only sensible choice. But in reality it's just so much hassle, so many bugs, and you've got to worry about your RAM and your exact settings for it and all this nonsense. And these are the people with the gall to say that BTRFS is unreliable, despite the fact that you can have a 12 bay Synology NAS with BTRFS and pull the power cord out all day long with no corruption whatsoever, and then with ZFS it's make sure you do this and make sure you change that. So at this point I'm very jaded on what anyone in the usual forums says about Linux, and I'm down to saying Ubuntu because as much as I like to tinker, I have so much else to be doing with my time, and it's so annoying with especially Arch based things to have them break things and then expect you to read release notes before you press the update button. I also went down the non-systemd distro rabbit hole, and again what a waste of time. Hours trying to do basic things and stuff just not working. Also be really wary of using LLMs to help you with tinkering. I find they just leave out vital details, and if you go back and question them they say 'oh yeah, you're absolutely right, i did leave out xyz really important info, let me do that again for you', meanwhile you've already bricked your system. By the way on the packaging front have you tried messing around in Distrobox? It's a really nice really easy way to install any app from any distro on any distro. Super quick and easy, export apps to your desktop so you can run them as if it's native, but they're running in little VM style containers of the target distro, but still with access to your user's home folder etc. So if you need a version of an app which is only available on another distro, you can use Distrobox to install just that app and have multiple versions and manage them all side by side. Totally negates the need for distro hopping. Of course this assumes that the stable base is working well enough for you, which to be fair it sounds like for you it isn't. But for me all I'm worried about with the distro is a stable base, good drivers and default settings to save me time, and the kernel version, and timely security updates. Then everything else can be Distrobox or whatever other package formats. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I will say I don't think most people need that tech to bypass firewalls and censorship though, or at least not Mullvad's primary user base. So it's not really a threat to them. Whereas Obscura is going to be targeting a slightly different customer base, and yet they're still effectively funneling customers to Mullvad, so I'm sure this is a win for both companies. Obscura gets access to a lot more infrastructure than they could offer and they can just focus on their tech, Mullvad gets lots of new customers effectively through Obscura. Also, I'm not sure at all on the details of Obscura or how it works or who's behind it or anything (the website seems to be down anyway so maybe they can't handle the traffic of this sudden spike in interest). So take this with a massive pinch of salt, but Mullvad's primary customer base are people who want the best level of privacy from their VPN provider, they allow anonymous sign ups with no account details, pay in lots of different ways etc. And a potential problem with using a service like Obscura which goes through two different services (Obscura and then Mullvad) is that you're increasing your exposure to different parties, so maybe you're increasing your exposure to correlation attacks which could de-anonymise you for example, or maybe to supply chain attacks. That's why I was saying they're probably different audiences, because it seems like Obscura's main benefit is this tech to bypass firewalls by obfuscating traffic. But that's not really Mullvad's use case. And if you want better obfuscation with Mullvad then you've got their DAITA system anyway which makes every packet the same size/timing to avoid traffic analysis. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Out of interest what problems have you run into? I've had Ubuntu 23.10, then updated to 24.04, then updated to 24.10 and it's been rock solid even with lots of messing about. By the way if you're looking at Debian then you might want to look at Spiral Linux. It's not a separate distro, it's just a configuration for Debian but still uses all standard repos etc. But basically it's just Debian with BTRFS encrypted, Snapper (snapshots) with grub integration, backports and flatpaks enabled by default etc etc. It's just exactly what you might want to do if you were setting up a Debian desktop, but all done for you, and without the risk of anything happening to the distro or it's maintainer because they're not actually separate. On the broader point I really wouldn't recommend Arch or Nix, just soooo much messing about for no real world benefit that I can see. Even if you like to tinker, after several months all I can say is save your sanity and don't let it eat away at your time. So other than that maybe look at Fedora, maybe OpenSuse, or even OpenMandriva? npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Pics didn't upload properly https://i.nostr.build/YzDKK4V5mraIxh7p.jpg https://i.nostr.build/B1r5nbW45HVs15kF.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I'm just outside Valencia now and you can really see the destructive force of the floods even far away from the worst affected areas. But on the bright side, I think you'll find that most people are just pragmatic and will use whatever the best tool is that's put in front of them. So I do think most people would use Monero for day to day transactions that they want to be private, and it's short term enough that they're not worried about losing purchasing power in the meantime. I don't agree with your house example though, because really there's no way to 'own' a house anonymously, so there's sort of no point in buying it anonymously either. Surely? Also about using Bitcoin privately, I think coin joining and mixing etc are becoming easier all the time. And I think if there's a push for that sort of thing (or other privacy preserving techniques) to just become the norm in wallets then it will all be mixed together enough to stop really mattering anyway. Unless you're trying to preserve anonymity for a very specific opsec reason, but that's different. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I'm confused, can you summarise what the content of the message was? All the others are such junk and such a waste of time that if I'd only tried those I would've said that the entire AI/LLM thing is a complete gimmick, complete waste of time. But Claude and GPT are so good that they're actually useful to me. I'd been putting off rewriting my website text for ages, with Claude, bang it's done. It's not as good as I would do it, but that doesn't matter because the website just needs to be online as a business card. And frankly it doesn't matter how good I would've theoretically done it if I hadn't actually gotten round to it in years. Using it for things like that has increased my output massively, and it's not in any way harmed my core business. Quite the opposite, it gives me time to focus on my core business and what I should be doing. And even going a step further, Claude and GPT are actually good enough to build into products to enhance my core business, whereas the others are all so laughably bad (looking at you Copilot and Amazon Q) that they should just delete them from the internet. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I think every man will agree that this is the most relatable meme in the world https://image.nostr.build/9d7b09758ca00562639a59af4f1bf8642c3bea3c40951ecfb9a56797f2d16e9c.jpg #memes #memestr npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Merry Christmas! 🎄 npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Merry Christmas #nostr I hope you all have a lovely day npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone GM https://image.nostr.build/77f4a1f28da9847ef4f642360177be5c322baff5b8779f67833d3a439446e58b.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone #gm https://image.nostr.build/2d184491e41953bbba0286156fd4e86684ae2b961fa4c13608e3698ea64c59d1.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Received this earlier from @nprofile…zn02 #legend #nevent1q…a50m npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Deventer Chrismas Market & Charles Dickens Festival #Netherlands #travel #christmas https://image.nostr.build/6261449db454fd87729a1bc55816a1fb7274862ae023d09806a0f06aa076b72b.jpg https://image.nostr.build/b849c1001fb3b968100e6deeadfa7ffb60e8d5ce6182bdb7f20e65f9bfdb1425.jpg https://image.nostr.build/ea366e4b44828e6420d140cea101e612e9eb73975e92d3bc9ced1574452bdd17.jpg https://image.nostr.build/5dc97e91fa75f72cdb3bbc2983498c0c62d13a7bfa0b22efb4ca4dc413b45cf4.jpg https://image.nostr.build/ad7ae117ee7b0ed6ba6df29bcad799b40592f104584dac7236d9d2be91314638.jpg https://image.nostr.build/caf12a60df79b95596c7b812635b55beebc5398a48c2a2696d35561574150c7a.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I have no idea what any of that means but it sounds worrying! npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Looks cool, but some quite off putting arbitrary restrictions in the community edition. I always think the way it should work is this, if it claims to be open source, there must be exact feature parity with open source code for all features. And then of course if the company wants to offer hosting and support, that's amazing. But by actually changing the feature set (e.g. no AD syncing for example), it's really stretching the definition of open source, because I can't compile with that feature apparently. I understand that they want to stop big companies from just using it for free, but I think for that a newer license model like Bruce Paren's proposed "post open" model is going to be the way forward. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone https://image.nostr.build/89c500cbd5dd34976ae403515dcf1942073f1c9529fec87515670cedb70eefa4.jpg npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone Such a misnomer anyway to call it inflation. Maybe CPI has been roughly those numbers, but the only inflation is the M1 / Mwhatever supply, and I'm sure they're quite happy to publish those numbers, and that nobody pays attention to them, and that they're a lot higher than 2% npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I completely agree, and I find it so cringe whenever I hear people talk about psychedelics on podcasts. It's like they're so oblivious to the fact that yes obviously doing drugs makes you feel something very intensely, but so what? That's nothing new. And yet they go on and on about metaphysical effects as if it's actually real, rather than just as you say, putting their body through something very unnatural and coming out the other side with a bit of a reset perspective. But to be fair, I do subscribe to the idea that every plant on the planet is the exact right medicine for something, it's just a question of knowing which medicine to use for a particular illness. And obviously you don't take medicine every day, or when you don't need it, or a for a disease that you don't have. So I will say fair play to them, if you've found the right medicine to take for a particular condition and it helps, amazing. But I think too many people self prescribe that medicine to themselves just to feel good, and that is simply drug abuse, nothing more. Like weed, yes it stimulates your dopamine receptors like crazy, and that is definitely the required treatment (in tiny moderation) for something. But it's not a healthy lifestyle, as you'll just burn out your dopamine receptors and they'll be harder and harder to activate (literally hardened). And then you'll never ever more extreme stimulation to feel anything. But people who are addicted will get angry when you tell them that, because they are literally dependent on the substance to boost their dopamine levels, so they get angry if they feel their dependency might be taken away from them. Anyway bit of rant, but hopefully you see what I mean. Yes it's all useful and medicinal for something, but that doesn't mean that everyone should just be self prescribing dopamine hits to themselves as if that's a healthy way to go through life. npub1kgk0pp373eed92uq9u65ycvtfafvcl236yu87w75a8j6v3p0qgqq898efn sword in the stone I completely agree.
