Yesterday I visited the Firestone Baars Chapel, designed by Finnish architect Eero Saarinen. (He also designed the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and Dulles International Airport, amongst other unique structures.)
The building is unlike any I’ve ever seen! It was starkly beautiful, and at the same time felt cold and lifeless spiritually. Strikingly, for a chapel, there was not even a hint of religious or symbolic imagery anywhere. Perfectly suited for an ecumenical future with one world religion.
