Update on Casper: We had a surgery follow-up appointment yesterday. Our vet was very pleased with how he is doing. His robust appetite has returned and also his sass has returned. He seems to be in good spirits. He fights me when I give him meds, which is a good sign. His weight has been stable. The abscess damaged a nerve between his eyelid and ear, and now he cannot easily close his right eye, so he uses his third eyelid. I give him eye lubricant to keep his eye comfortable. :Casper:

He is still on lots of medication. The Tramadol probably helps him have good spirits. I had to buy a baby scale to monitor his weight. I've had rabbits for over 20 years and resisted buying a baby scale, but now I have one. He continues to hang in there and enjoy his salad and his treats, so there still is a lot of life left in him. I'm doing my best to take care of him and give him the best medical care.

Hello BunPals. I know it's been a while since I've given a Casper update. Last year Casper had surgery to remove a benign bone tumor on his upper right jaw. Well, that tumor regrew and he needed surgery again. The tumor and accompanying abscess were larger than before, so the surgery had to be more extensive.

We spent this morning at an emergency vet appointment. Late last night I noticed that Casper had some discharge from his cheek in the same place he had his surgery last year. The vet said that it was probably some residual effect from the surgery such as a stitch that didn't completely dissolve or irritation from scar tissue. The area was cleaned out and stitched up. Casper is on antibiotics for the next two weeks.

Years ago I would take my friend's cats to the vet when my friend became too elderly to handle them. Because they were large, psychotic demon cats, I would suit up wearing 2 long-sleeved shirts and gardening gloves. Their vet was glad that I was there to wrangle the cats so they didn't have to. (I know not all cats are demon cats. There cats were particularly spicy.)

Yes that's a human-sized head band. I got it at a holiday party. Casper is now about 8.5 pounds, down from 10 pounds. He's still chubby, but not as portly as before. :Casper: says: I'm not fat I'm fluffy!
