While the traffic roared outside on Sukhumvit Road, her world was a green paradise of ferns, frangipani trees, and cool marble tiles—even if she usually looked as though she couldn't care less about any of it.
Grumpy was no ordinary stray; she was the moody sovereign of the building. Her day was strictly timed according to the residents' schedules, though she emerged from the deepest bushes only when it was time to eat:
07:30 AM: As the first resident headed to work, a sour face poked out from the undergrowth. With a look that seemed like a formal complaint about the delay, Grumpy accepted her bowl of kibble.
12:00 PM: At lunchtime, a young woman would sit on the bench under the large banyan tree. Grumpy would rustle through the leaves, devour a piece of steamed fish, and immediately vanish back into the thicket before anyone could even think of petting her.
06:00 PM: As the evening sun turned the skyscrapers golden, another neighbor appeared with "special" treats. Grumpy acknowledged the tuna jelly with a skeptical blink before finishing every last bit and retreating with a cranky huff.
The cat was so well-fed that her black-and-white belly nearly brushed the lush grass when she walked. Despite all the care, she remained aloof, preferring to spend her time invisible within the dense, cool greenery of the grounds.
