Yes, there have been complaints about how the assets of Gitea were managed, which led to the fork that became Forgejo.
For me, I am not convinced that the offenses are serious enough to recommend that people avoid Gitea.
Going different direction with a fork is fine, which is why I posted links to both Gitea and Forgejo.

After a couple weeks, I found some customization to the KDE desktop environment that make me like it quite a bit better than the default configuration.
The key to this customization is a program called 'cortile' while brings features of a tiling window manager to X11 desktop environments.
The second is binding a keyboard shortcut to the "Overview" feature in KDE. By default, the Overview is activated by the top left 'hot corner', which I found by accident.
I want to focus on one window at a time and not have to worry about its position. Setting 'cortile' to the Maximized setting and the Panel Configuration Visibility to 'Dodge Windows' gives me what I was looking for.
The Overview is now tied to a keyboard shortcut and acts like rofi would, as a window and virtual desktop switcher, as well as an application launcher.
In KDE System Settings, keyboard shortcuts can be configured for switching virtual desktops and moving windows between virtual desktops. It is a bit fiddly and takes quite a bit of time to figure it out, but KDE does not disappoint with with how much it can be customized.
I think this concept and integration of cortile would also work well in the Cinnamon desktop environment (haven't yet tried it), though Cinnamon may not quite the same feature as KDE Overview.

Got a request for a laptop with built in serial port running Windows XP Pro. I had a Dell Latitude D620 that I think will work well for that.
These Latitude models from this era were the first refurbished laptops I focused on selling when I started my local business in 2009.

He'll be using it to use old software that only runs on XP, and works best with a physical serial port (not adapter or virtualized) to connect with a car.

Success.
The torrented Dell drivers disc was able to be mounted in Linux, then I copied the contents to a folder on an external drive.
I was able to run the driver installer programs from that folder and it successfully installed the missing drivers (audio, wifi and nvidia graphics)
Posting this from the XP laptop now, using the Supermium web browser.

That may be a case of "pick your poison".
I am not totally against smoking and am of the belief that rolling your own cigarettes or smoking a pipe is significantly healthier that both mass-produced cigarettes and vaping.
... but I have not smoked or vaped, so do not have much personal experience with it.

Here's the MATE desktop on top of Artix Linux. It is installed on a ThinkCentre Tiny M700.
This is the computer for this week's RetroEdge.Tech Computer Giveaway.
One thing that I do not like about MATE (and therefore the old Gnome2) is that there is very little keyboard control of the desktop environment. The 'super' key does not launch the Start Menu. Ctrl+Alt+t does not launch a terminal, et cetera.
Perhaps adding rofi on top of MATE would be a good blend of old and better keyboard control.

I did some quick digging and 'screenfetch' is also available in Zorin (ubuntu) repositories and looks to do about the same thing without as many dependencies (compared to neofetch).

Almost complete with this "build" of an HP mini with Zorin OS.
Just need to copy the data from the customer's old Windows computer and then it will be ready.
Fastfetch was not in the repositories, probably due to Zorin being based on a slightly older Ubuntu LTS version.
Neofetch was there and helped me accomplish on screen what you are supposed to have in screenshots.

Our approaches are quite different.
My health most improved when I almost exclusively ate beef and dairy with very little of my food coming directly from plants.
Recently, I have been getting in the bad habit of adding sugar to my coffee and eating too many plants.
I wish you well on your health journey... but be careful of following doctors recommendations.

Okay, update on this. The exploit does seem to work even if 'lsmod | grep algif_aead' returns nothing.
I tested it on my local, non-production, Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 system.
Crazy exploit!
Now that means I have a bunch of work to do to mitigate for this.

I don't want to run a mitigation that doesn't need to be run. Just in case that introduces a problem in a system that is currently working fine and not exploitable.
So from what I've learned so far:
```
lsmod | grep algif_aead
```
this checks to see if the exploitable module is loaded.
You can check if the module is present in the system, but not currently loaded with:
```
modinfo algif_aead 2>/dev/null
```
If that returns information, the module is present and could be loaded.
But you have to have root privileges to load the module.
So my logic is that if
```
lsmod | grep algif_aead
```
returns nothing, the vulnerable Linux kernel module is not loaded and therefore not exploitable... even if the module is present on the system but not loaded.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

None of the Linux devices I've checked with:
lsmod | grep algif_aead
seem to be exploitable.
From what I understand, if the above command that checks to see if the exploitable kernel module is loaded returns nothing, then the exploit cannot be run.

Most of my Linux machines are running older, non-patched kernels, but it doesn't seem like the affected kernel module is active... so does that mean a system that returns nothing for "lsmod | grep algif_aead" is not at risk for this exploit?

Snaps was also one of the things that made me less excited about Ubuntu. I am sure they are better now, but lots of issues with Snap packages not long after they were released.
I haven't used Flatpak much, but I think that is a bit better than Snap.
I find myself using AppImage some when there isn't an installable .deb package or it isn't in the Debian repositories.

I have found the Debian base of Linux Mint Debian Edition to be much more stable and reliable than Ubuntu. Also a bit better on performance with older computers.
I also sell refurbished computers with Linux and Linux Mint Debian Edition has been my go to "just works" distro.
I am also experimenting with Devuan, Artix and other similar distros, too.

There's some good distros out there. Lots to try.
I also want to make my own distro... eventually.
If you are looking for init options, I highly recommend at least trying Devuan and Artix.

Very similar to my Linux history.
I used Ubuntu for close to 15 years and have been using LMDE for the last couple years (along with Devuan and Artix).

It does have promise. I am planning on doing more with MOS.
Very simplified interface compared to ProxMox, but that can also be a good thing.
I am not very familiar with Docker, and needed to ask for some help from someone more knowledgeable, but it seems that Frigate NVR deployed with docker on MOS is working well, complete with video storage on an internal HDD.
I have not been a big fan of Docker, but I can see how it can be useful. MOS can do Docker, LXC containers and VMs.

I haven't tried it from the AUR. I am familiar with CDE, but haven't used it regularly.
I should spend some more time with it.
I think my ideal is a window manager like i3wm with some custom things with the rofi launcher.
... however, that is not ideal for regular people who I'd like to help switch to Linux. For quite a few years, my 'go to' default has been the Cinnamon desktop on either Linux Mint Debian Edition or Devuan.
I was urged to take a look at KDE and I have. I've been seeing some rough edges with KDE, little issues and problems, but overall I respect KDE and recognize why so many people choose it on Linux and FreeBSD.
Long answer, a little off topic.
