That's a very narrow view given that openai and Anthropic both stole IP to include in their training data and are facing a bunch of lawsuits as a result. They steal IP and lock it up behind closed weight models that you need to pay for. Chinese startups on the other hand are doing everything in the open. They're also doing a shitload of research which openai and Anthropic are using for free, the most advanced research behind the American AI industry is all Chinese, to the point that half of their internal slack messages are in Chinese.

Fees are what determine if a transaction gets into a block.
Which chain is valid bitcoin depends on the vendor because if the vendor and the buyer disagree on which chain is bitcoin, the vendor wins, just like whhe you go to a shop and pay with a fake $20 bill.

The problem is that it's not possible to keep it accessible and also secure against a state actor at the same time.
The market needs to outhash the State, so you want the market to have the absolute most efficient hardware possible so that the State can't develop anything better.

A State can always develop more powerful hardware to hash Monero if they're motivated to kill it, it's just not profitable.
They can't do the same for bitcoin because asics are a result of an arms race and the State can't do any better than the market.

Yes I've been involved in Monero since before Monero existed (the cryptonote/bytecoin days).
The hash algorithm and trivial amount of energy required to destroy Monero is exactly why governments are unconcerned. To them it's even less threatening than tornado cash.
As soon as you need to rely on the community to change the hash algorithm it becomes even easier for the State to kill it, infiltrating communities to destroy them from within is where they really shine.
It truly was a fun experiment but the reason you don't want an asic resistant algo is because the State is the adversary.

They key point is that the owner of something other than bitcoin is actually the person who determines what bitcoin is (when they accept bitcoin as payment). Just like when you go into a shop to buy something the shopkeeper decides if your cash is real or counterfeit. Extending this out to the system as a whole, the rolling set of participants trading something in exchange for bitcoin have 100% of the hard power over the bitcoin protocol (not devs, miners, node operators). Of course some of these people might also be devs or miners or node operators, but that isn't what gives them a vote.
The sender of a transaction is paying miners for immutability as a service, and they are doing this on behalf of whoever they are trading with (as they are the party that determines if the transaction is valid and immutable, not the sender).
In 2017 most of these trades were already happening on exchanges just as today, but there's more than one exchange and a quick way to lose all your customers is to be on the wrong side of a fork, so what they are really doing is validating on behalf of their users (and users tend to withdraw and self custody at some point, validating against their own node or SPV against public nodes).

Full nodes themselves have never and will never have any hard power over the protocol. If they did then a government could spin up a hundred million nodes and dwarf the entire network then UASF a consensus change that allows them to print unlimited coins for themselves.
What actually happened in 2017 was that most people who receive bitcoin in exchange for something else (products/services/fiat/whatever) individually decided to validate their incoming payments against a node running/signaling Segwit rather than not Segwit. That means more value transfers were gated/blocked by validation against Segwit nodes than against ABC/Cash nodes, so if you wanted to trade your "bitcoin" for something else in the economy it needed to be valid bitcoin according to Segwit nodes.

No. Monero has not come under anything even close to the level of attack that bitcoin has been encountering for the last decade.
Psyops to split the community like XT and ABC, VC/State backed funding deployed to take over development, Wall Street paper, regulation of large miners, etc etc.
No one is threatened enough by Monero to spend that kind of money and political capital to attack it. It's receiving the same amount of attention as something like tornado cash.

Segwit was absolutely going to activate. Prior to that actually happening some unknowable but small amount of economic nodes deployed a UASF (like BIP110) that would have caused themselves to be forked off of BTC *before* segwit activation (like BIP110).
In order to prevent this pointless disruption, BIP91 was introduced as a way to coordinate earlier miner signaling of Segwit. Then of course we had to listen to a decade of UASF nonsense, which was also the reason Taproot was significantly delayed, finally being activated after the UASF route was fully rejected.
So the "historical fact" is that BIP148 was irrelevant, and BIP91 allowed them to save face. And they’ve been abusing that gift ever since. And now we are going to see what happens when a UASF actually activates.

I've implemented bitcoin payments and Monero payments for the hardware devices I used to produce. Bitcoin is definitely more useful as money.
And it's not "in the hopes" of it denying privacy to the state. If we assume the end state is total replacement of the financial system, it makes sense that the base layer is completely transparent and privacy exists in layers on top of it, rather than the other way around (which is how the fiat system works).
In the fiat system, the base layer is not public, and the outcome of that is oligarchs etc have privacy but individuals do not. Take like a year and get to the bottom of why that is.
