antique guns aren't legally firearms in Canada, and if by "lax gun laws mean it's easy to get guns" you mean that you are not prevented from purchasing a revolver from the civil war that is an incredibly misleading way to say it.
And it is not a lot easier than people act like it is, it's that you personally interact with people who are more likely to seek out illegal firearms. Also the example you gave is literally an anecdote. I, personally, cannot just "go over the border and meet a guy in the woods". Very few people can!
