15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
About Today
Year: A(II). Psalm week: 3. Liturgical Colour: Green.
Other saints: St John Jones (- 1598)
Wales
He was a novice at the Franciscan convent in Greenwich, but when this was dissolved in 1559 he had to move to France, where he took his final vows. Later he joined the Roman province of the Franciscan Order and in 1592, at his own request, he went on a mission to England. He was arrested on false charges in 1596 and severely tortured. In 1598 he was tried and convicted of being a priest and on 12 July he was executed. Despite the deliberately early hour chosen for the execution, a large crowd gathered, to which he preached before being hanged, drawn and quartered.

Other saints: St John Jones (c.1540-1598)
Wales
John Jones (known also as John Buckley, John Griffith and Godfrey Maurice) was born in Clynnog Fawr in Wales, about 1540, into a Welsh family which had remained true to the Catholic faith. As a young man, he entered the Franciscan house at Greenwich. Eventually he went to Rome and asked to be sent to England. He reached London at the end of 1592, and worked for some years in different parts of the country. His brother Franciscans in England elected him their provincial. In 1596 the ‘priest catcher’ Richard Topcliffe was informed by a spy that Father Jones had visited two Catholics and had said Mass in their house. He was promptly arrested, tortured and scourged. He was then imprisoned for nearly two years. On 3 July 1598 he was tried on the charge of “going over the seas in the first year of Her Majesty’s reign (1558) and there being made a priest by the authority from Rome and then returning to England contrary to statute”. He was convicted of high treason and sentenced to be hanged, drawn, and quartered. By this time people were becoming sympathetic to the Catholic victims of these awful butcheries, so the execution was arranged for an early hour in the morning in order to escape notice. In spite of the earliness of the hour, a large crowd had gathered. John Jones spoke to the crowd, reminding them that he was dying for his faith alone and had no political interest. His dismembered remains were fixed on the poles on the roads to Newington and Lambeth, they were removed by some young Catholic gentlemen, one of whom suffered a long imprisonment for this offence.

Other saints: SS. Louis Martin and Marie Azélie Guérin
12 Jul (where celebrated)
Louis Martin was born in Bordeaux, on August 22, 1823. While he was master-watchmaker in Alençon, he met Marie Azélie (Zélie) Guérin, a lace maker, born in Gandelain (St-Denis-sur-Sarthon), on December 23, 1831. They were married on July 13, 1858,and had nine children, including the future Saint Thérèse of the Infant Jesus. Model spouses, devoted parents, workers, attentive to the poor, always nourishing a missionary spirit, they found their strength and hope in regular attendance at Holy Mass and in a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin. After a long illness Zélie died in Alençon on August 28, 1877. Louis, in retirement, went to Lisieux near his in-laws to ensure a better future for his five children (the other four having died in infancy). This patriarch of the family, after offering all his children to God, knew suffering and illness. He died near Evreux on July 29, 1894.

About the author of the Second Reading in today's Office of Readings:
Second Reading: St Ambrose of Milan (340? - 397)
Ambrose was born in Trier (now in Germany) between 337 and 340, to a Roman family: his father was praetorian prefect of Gaul. Ambrose was educated at Rome and embarked on the standard cursus honorum of Roman advocates and administrators, at Sirmium, the capital of Illyria. In about 372 he was made prefect of Liguria and Emilia, whose capital was Milan.
In 374 the bishopric of Milan fell vacant and when Ambrose tried to pacify the conflict between the Catholics and Arians over the appointment of a new bishop, the people turned on him and demanded that he become the bishop himself. He was a layman and not yet baptized (at this time it was common for baptism to be delayed and for people to remain for years as catechumens), but that was no defence. Coerced by the people and by the emperor, he was baptized, ordained, and installed as bishop within a week, on 7 December 374.
He immediately gave his money to the poor and his land to the Church and set about learning theology. He had the advantage of knowing Greek, which few people did at that time, and so he was able to read the Eastern theologians and philosophers as well as those of the West.
He was assiduous in carrying out his office, acting with charity to all: a true shepherd and teacher of the faithful. He was unimpressed by status and when the Emperor Theodosius ordered the massacre of 7,000 people in Thessalonica, Ambrose forced him to do public penance. He defended the rights of the Church and attacked the Arian heresy with learning, firmness and gentleness. He also wrote a number of hymns which are still in use today.
Ambrose was a key figure in the conversion of St Augustine to Catholicism, impressing Augustine (hitherto unimpressed by the Catholics he had met) by his intelligence and scholarship. He died on Holy Saturday, 4 April 397.

Liturgical colour: green
The theological virtue of hope is symbolized by the colour green, just as the burning fire of love is symbolized by red. Green is the colour of growing things, and hope, like them, is always new and always fresh. Liturgically, green is the colour of Ordinary Time, the orderly sequence of weeks through the year, a season in which we are being neither single-mindedly penitent (in purple) nor overwhelmingly joyful (in white).

Isaiah 55:10-11
‘The rain makes the earth bring forth and sprout.’
Thus says the Lord:
‘For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.’
________
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 65(64):10a-d. 10e-11. 12-13. 14. ℟ Luke 8:8
Some seed fell into good soil and yielded its fruit.
You visit the earth, give it water;
you fill it with riches.
God’s ever-flowing river brims over
to prepare the grain.
Some seed fell into good soil and yielded its fruit.
And thus you prepare it:
you drench its furrows;
you level it, soften it with showers;
you bless its growth.
Some seed fell into good soil and yielded its fruit.
You crown the year with your bounty.
Abundance flows in your pathways;
in pastures of the desert it flows.
The hills are girded with joy.
Some seed fell into good soil and yielded its fruit.
The meadows clothed with flocks.
The valleys are decked with wheat.
They shout for joy; yes, they sing!
Some seed fell into good soil and yielded its fruit.
________
Second reading
Romans 8:18-23
‘The creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.’
Brothers and Sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption, and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Gospel Acclamation

________
Gospel
Matthew 13:1-23
‘A sower went out to sow.’
At that time: Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.’
Then the disciples came and said to him, ‘Why do you speak to them in parables?’ And he answered them, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: “You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.” For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
‘Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.’

With their silver and gold they made idols for themselves, to their own destruction. Cast away your calf, O Samaria! my wrath is kindled against them; How long will they be unable to attain innocence in Israel? The work of an artisan, no god at all, Destined for the flames— such is the calf of Samaria! When they sow the wind, they shall reap the whirlwind; The stalk of grain that forms no ear can yield no flour; Even if it could, strangers would swallow it. When Ephraim made many altars to expiate sin, his altars became occasions of sin. Though I write for him my many ordinances, they are considered as a stranger’s. Though they offer sacrifice, immolate flesh and eat it, the LORD is not pleased with them. He shall still remember their guilt and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt. The crowds were amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.” But the Pharisees said, “He drives out demons by the prince of demons.” Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad One Year With Void Linux Week One Post: So I have found myself at a cross road while doing a year long challenge on Linux. I started with NixOS as my daily driver and all was going well until it didn’t, I was loving it so much until I tried to update something and it all went out the window. Don’t get me wrong NixOS is a absolutely fantastic distro but I think its a little out of my league Linux wise. My head is full of other crap and learning a new way to use Linux was so fun to start with but after years of mainly Debian as my daily driver it felt as if my head was gonna explode. So I went with Void Linux and honestly I could not be happier at all, its so fast and runs perfectly on my Lenovo laptop, have no systemd is no big deal for me and plus with everything going on with that I would rather stay away. I love how I feel more in control over everything I do and use is the best feeling ever. Things I love about Void Linux The performance is brilliant Battery life is better then what I was getting on Debian Getting to know Xfce has been awesome Gaming has been great on my games Things I don’t like xbps is lacking some software I will update this as I go along. So far within the first week I have managed to break it by trying to move over to xlibre but after a bit of trouble shooting I managed to roll back to xorg. I have spent a lot of time learning as much as i can about the rest I just used ch as I can about this great distro and to be honest its lacking in the handbook but you can still get things done or fix with a little know-how. There are so useful tips out there on the web but I found AI to be useless when searching things up. AI can go in the bin as far as I’m concerned, they are spending billions on this tech and its pure rubbish, but lets move on. One thing I have noticed and this is a very small thing and that is my file transfer is slow compared to other distros I have tried, I’m not sure if this is me not done something right or if its void Linux, I would hazard a guess its me not doing something right so I will look into it this coming week. I find that installing software using xbps is incredible, they maybe lacking software, well compared to NixOS or Debian but they have mostly everything I needed and I just use AppImage for the rest of my software as I hate Flatpak with a passion, I find Flatpak clog up my laptop and overtime just make it unusable, might be lack of ram who knows so I just stay well clear unless I really and I mean really have to. I have to say I love how bare bones this distro is compared to the likes of Ubuntu and fedora, I honestly wished I had tried this earlier rather then jumping form one distro to the next. Gaming so far I have testing it with dark souls 2 which I know is a old game but dam it played really well even on high settings, I have also been able to go to the full 2GB VRAM on the internal graphics card which is amazing as Debian was the only other distro I could do that on, I will retest a few more games with the GPU getting that full 2GB So as I look into the future I can see me storming past a year, I hate to say it but I think I have found a forever home on Linux even after only one week. I have waited for this day for so long and I have been looking into free BSD a lot lately but I found myself saying why on earth would you leave something that's so stable and works with my hardware as well as it does, I would be crazy so here I am finally using my laptop as I want with everything running as I want it, only time will tell now if I manage not to distro hop again but as of now it ain’t gonna happen at all. npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad For all you true gamers like myself https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/2bdff1fdd89306c2916cda7d005238cba3f6bf716c725a1519b3d6943c993ffb.mp4 https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/d10ea4cff8f2ccf4524f47feda26c8cda7a5c56c56595db59f5e957f897306ce.mp4 https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/7a0167fabd984f2e4f3e51a510349232a376191656592734465fff1a66085054.mp4 npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad is anyone still working on notedeck, its perfect to use on linux npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad loving your work, keep up the great work npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad loving your work, keep up the great work #note1cju…mp28 npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad Joh 3:5-6 DRV Jesus answered: Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel. npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad GM all, what a stunning day npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad Very good video, keep up the fantastic work npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad https://www.missiodeicatholic.org?utm_source=navbar&utm_medium=web npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad https://blossom.primal.net/17a87782499d802d12d725c3722012d64e66c512756a8499ca837dd6a65fd1cd.jpg npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad And take your stupid laws with you https://inv.thepixora.com/watch?v=0w0kxL4gP84 npub1ppl78tdsjs53x2ldewg0zdvwz9ufsz36tynt5pkd74s6feell59s6ejlum WorldsGoneMad Even on leaving his still full of shit. Readings at Mass
________
Entrance Antiphon
Cf. Ps 26: 7, 9
O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help.
Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Saviour!
________
Collect
O God, strength of those who hope in you,
graciously hear our pleas,
and, since without you mortal frailty can do nothing,
grant us always the help of your grace,
that in following your commands
we may please you by our resolve and our deeds.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
________
First reading
Exodus 19:2-6a
‘You shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’
In those days: The people of Israel came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, ‘Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: “You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” ’
________
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 100(99):1-2. 3. 5. ℟3c
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
Cry out with joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Serve the LORD with gladness.
Come before him, singing for joy.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
Know that he, the LORD, is God.
He made us; we belong to him.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
Indeed, how good is the LORD,
eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
________
Second reading
Romans 5:6-11
‘If we were reconciled by the death of the Son, much more shall we be saved by his life.’
Brothers and Sisters: While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person — though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die — but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
________
Gospel Acclamation
Mark 1:15
Alleluia, alleluia.
The kingdom of God is at hand;
repent and believe in the gospel.
Alleluia.
________
Gospel
Matthew 9:36-10:8
‘Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and sent them out.’
At that time: When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’
And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. The names of the twelve Apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.’
________
Prayer over the Offerings
O God, who in the offerings presented here
provide for the twofold needs of human nature,
nourishing us with food
and renewing us with your Sacrament,
grant, we pray,
that the sustenance they provide
may not fail us in body or in spirit.
Through Christ our Lord.
________
Communion Antiphon
Ps 26: 4
There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek:
to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
Or:
Jn 17: 11
Holy Father, keep in your name those you have given me,
that they may be one as we are one, says the Lord.
________
Prayer after Communion
As this reception of your Holy Communion, O Lord,
foreshadows the union of the faithful in you,
so may it bring about unity in your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.
