15K with 5 x 1K Vo2Max
Runna prescribed 8 (8! 🤯) tough intervals. But after 5 intervals I didn’t find more motivation for the rest. So I stopped at that - having met the pace targets so far. I even ran in my Metaspeed carbon plate shoes …. But it didn’t help much. At work I was already considering to have an easy run. Guess it wasn’t my day today 🤷🏻‍♂️
Runna wants to decrease my pace targets as a result. But no ! 🧐😂 Not yet 🙃

There is still a backyard ultra running since the weekend in Horsens (city) Denmark 🇩🇰. After 56 hours, 3 runners remain 🤯

A gravel road run mostly - with a bit of tarmac too. With Kasper. And in my new Saucony Endorphin Speed 5s. Shoes feels great✨🚀. No issues. My Coros armband is amazing too 💛: Very frictionless to put on and I don’t feel it at all while running. Stable readings.

7.5K Yesterdays Run | New shoes
✨Saucony Endorphin Speed 5✨ - got those right after work. Tested them out immediately: They felt like great shoes on this short run. A bit like a fun hybrid between my ASICS Magic Speed 4 and Novablast 5. Versatile I imagine, yet still to truly find out.
I am shortly about to go out for another run. To further get used to them 👌🏻✨. And the reason why … is that I plan on using them for my ultra in precisely 1 week 🙃

Regarding why I’m beaten up ⬆️
According to Garmin my effort corresponds to a normal 80K run (easy effort style). I don’t think it is far from it (the feeling here a few days after). But I do think perhaps my BPM rating was a bit excess. Either that or I did actually push harder than normal 😂🧐🤷🏻‍♂️
(I do find it a little weird that my stamina went to zero after 1h15m ish … that was not at all the effort feeling I had … the entire race did feel manageable. Tough yes. But ok)

The after effect of Copenhagen Marathon is the same as any other ultra run 🤯
Impact on joints … and DOMS even. Here on day 2.
Lesson learned: Marathons are equally tough afterwards (if taken seriously and run “hard”).

To the point: 3:00:15. I felt great throughout. But at kilometer 39 my legs began cramping. So it put a stopper for the flow. Especially the last kilometer wasn’t very beautiful 🤣. Considering that I’m really proud of the result 🤗🥳.
Best experience for sure: Copenhagen Marathon is super awesome. Highly recommended 🥳🥳

22K Long Run | Race Practice
Today was a Race Practice long run, prescribed by Runna. 7K easy, then 7.5K Race Pace (I ran faster than that today), then 7.5K easy (I ran faster again here, relatively).

Blessed with good weather. Although slightly windy 🥵. Gel before running - then one after 5K - then one after 10K or so. SiS 40g carb gels. It isn’t easy to ingest while pushing pace and therefore in need of oxygen 😅

Nice 😊- I had a good race today (half marathon). Got a 3rd 🥉 place of 95 finishers. And a new half PB of (official time) 1:26:57 - and a more optimistic Strava measurement of 1:26:42. So a pace 4:07 avg ish. Very happy 😃. Also it was a very good weather day: calm and mild. A little wind but not insane. Had to work for this 😂

haha yeah that was also faster than prescribed by Runna. Definitely not race pace material.
Just for motivation: Via the intervals and high pace tempo (threshold) sessions … you “teach your nerves + brain” to be able to recruit what you already have (latent). Just with these adaptations you can harvest speed. It amazes me 🤩
Then ofc fast muscles fibers and other related physical adaptations can be developed. But requires more patience 😆

15K Run with 4 x 1K Intervals
A Runna “taper intervals” session. I have a half marathon on Sunday; so this is in principle a taper week. And thus some intervals at Runna anticipated race pace.

These are “gentler” than normal intervals in that they are at the slower race pace and there’s only 4 of them. But I violated everything and ran them faster 🫣🤫: It has become easier (but not easy) to hit higher paces apparently. Felt great (despite not fully fresh).

fyi I thought I fixed the missing notifications from you. But it’s still an issue. I only see these on my main feed if I happen to suspect they are directed at me. thank you so much 😊. Wow that’s super nice. Ah with your mind and engine you can pick and choose 😎.
But you can decide if you want it to “last a day” or more (for example a night part as well). If the race starts early then you have 50K and 80K (and possibly even the longer cousin 100K) that can be done while still allowing you to have an afternoon/evening to enjoy afterwards... that’s nice I think 😆

✅ Wayout Backyard Ultra | 21 Yards (140K)
Phew 🤠. Started 20:00 Friday and ran until 17:00 Saturday. I beat my backyard ultra PB with 1 yard. Not much and I definitely had bigger ambitions. Yet this was what I had: smashed quads and sore legs made it clear that I would just reach for beating my old 20 yards 🙃.
Colleague Mads was there too 🤩 - so awesome.
Lovely race. Rained at night. But clear at day. Back next year 💯

🌳🐿️Grenaa Halvmarathon - 6 timers ULTRA løb
71K is what it amounted to today on today’s 6h race 👌🏻. That was pretty nice …. I attempted (for the first time ever) a negative split. By bumping pace every 2h. At the end it wasn’t super true to the plan (had to dig deep to summon the power).
This also resulted in a new 50K PB (by 12 min). But to be fair the old one was set in January (cold!) 2024 and a more exposed route. But I’ll take it 🤗

On March 14th I have a 6 hour race 🤗🤠. I missed a race here in February (due to conflict with my wife’s calendar 😂) … so I am really looking forward to that 6 hour race.
On the plus side I have had pure focus on my marathon training program. It is the Runna generated one … which I must say have been really awesome until now. The workouts for sure meets my fitness level (but those sessions are also very tough ).

50K Weekend ✅ (22K Sat, 28K Sun)
Yesterday I ran 22K in which I had an insane Runna workout: 6 x 800m VO2Max then 8 x 400m VO2Max(+). 800s went ok. Tech error made me screw up interval 1 of the 400m 😩. But I had 5 ok ones and then 2 where I was slower than pace target 🎯. I was busted there.

🐇 Run | Workout: 1K Intervals
Another Runna workout. Brutal. 8 x 1K full rabbit mode 🐇. 90 seconds rest between. Never did “so many” before (max 5) … so a “challenge”.
But I was cunning 😂: I made use of a terrible - but handy - tailwind (8 m/s with 13 m/s gusts) … ran all the intervals that way.

🏃🏼 94 min snow ❄️ running (🐢)
So it was beautiful. And wind was ok. It snowed a bit. But I must say I’m not a super fan of snow running - it’s kind of like sand running … a bit tough. Maybe another day soon I’ll be a snow fan again 🤣 (but right now it just disturbs both easy running as well as faster running 🧐🤨). Rant aside : gosh it’s beautiful 🤩

at least you will have a period here before the marathon training starts to research and find out what plan / approach resonates with you 👌🏻🤩. Whatever you find I would equally be interested in hearing about it.
(I personally struggle with wanting everything right now: fast medium distances and slow long distance events such as 12 hour races, trail races and backyard ultras. not easy to pick for me. Which then is reflected in my training, still 😂)

tbh I haven’t been looking at such plans specifically myself yet. My own training is one big mix of stuff I think I can combine with a positive outcome (I primarily focus at the long stuff but then also want to sprinkle it with speed. Everything at once 😂).
The problem is probably that there are too many Marathon plan options 😂. I can imagine you would find the approach by “Floris Gierman” interesting?

✨NEWS✨: Just added 1 new race to 2026
I added a 6 hour race for March 14th. This takes place in a forest and is primarily gravel (and rather flat). My wife tagged me on it over at Facebook so naturally that had a consequence 😂🤭. It takes place a few weeks before the Backyard Ultra … which I feel is heavenly timing 🤩

Hmm 🤔 - I still need to find a race in the late summer / early fall (before Kullamannen 2026). There are a few good Danish ones but I haven’t yet decided. Most likely trail ultras - but could also be a Marathon or so 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔

Just finished this race today 👏🏻🥳. I just barely made it to top 10: came in 9th out of 72 starters. 8 DNFs. Was quite hilly - but definitely lovely runnable trails. I felt like a an MTB bike rider 😂👌🏻
Fun fact my AVG pace and GAP this year was faster than it was in 2023 .. and that’s where I “only” ran 25K. Not entirely identical… but mostly same trails mixed together. Both: ran what I could 🤠⚡️

Bib collection opened at 10:00 CET - I was in the queue 20 minutes before. It quickly grew 🙃
Some 7.5 hours until start (18:00 CET). Bus 🚌 departures at 16:00 CET. I am really excited - with a little bit of nerves 🤠

Vest: 3 x 500ml water bottles. 1 collapsible cup, 1 hard soup cup, emergency kit/blanket/toilet paper/calories/whistle, 2 x headlamps (with spare batteries), lots of gels and salt tablets, waterproof trousers, long armed shirt, extra waterproof jacket
Bonus: running poles
Drop bag (~120K): gels + electrolytes, shoes, socks, t-shirt + base layer, buff/gloves/beanie

✨NEWS✨: Just added 3 new races to 2026
A 100K road run in Jan.
A 46K trail run in Feb.
And a 24H (hours) run in May.
The last one will be the first time - in 2024 I ran the 12H variant. But the format is so amazing that I want to go again.
The 100K race will be my second time at that. I’ve run the 50K before too. It’s a tough race due to strong head wind up the west coast.
The 46K race: a longer version of the race that I’ve run twice before at 28K. New opportunity- yes thanks 🙏🏻

Kept this one easy too. Heart rate generally high for I-don’t-know-whatever-reason … but I tried to contain it. Until the end where I put 4 x 15 seconds (ish) strides into the mix 🙃
This concludes the week with 60K. A significant reduction before race day on Friday 👌🏻

I definitely went to bed too early last night … have been awake for quite some time now (it’s 03:36 now). On the plus side I’ve been having a lot of time to get ideas: for a work problem and for some house related opportunities. And for planning myself out of a bunch of private life TODOs .
Days seem to fly by. This was actually what I needed: stopping up and thinking 💭.

🏋🏻60 minutes weight training
With my son 🤩. Full body. Second time. He is really listening to and learning from all my small corrections and tips 😎. Soon he will be able to recruit the (correct) muscle fibers for more power/strength. I am happy he has the patience to listen and learn. my heart rate has also been elevated since after my illness. I am not back to what was the case prior to it. It’s “interesting” indeed. And like you I currently don’t feel absolutely smashed … but for sure I’m not as effective yet 😂

3 weeks with ✨Garmin Enduro 3✨
Battery 🪫 now low: dropped below 10% - said 3 days left (which would likely be the case if not used for activities). This is after 3 weeks. This last week here included another 9.5 hours GPS tracking.
I have now put it for charging 🔋… so that it is ready for the weekend’s runs.
This is the first time I’ve had to charge it since I got it. 🤠👌🏻👏🏻

60 minutes elliptical
So today could not be running. My knees have had some inflammation going on since the weekend ultra (Mors 100 Miles). Legs otherwise ok. Nothing like muscular breakdown as after mountain ultras. Instead this is different. So I need to recover more before I dare run again 🤠🤣

37K Run
Thought it would be easier 😂. First ~25K felt good. But then it got increasingly harder. But a great run for sure.
I wanted to run 42 but at the last 10K my bottle of energy drink was totally empty after like 2K or so …. So I decided to cut it short and not destroy myself entirely.
Could have taken another option: drop pace considerably and then slow cruise home. But I would rather get the target quality in a shorter run 🤠🕺🏼

10K run | Happyyyyy weeekend everybody 🤩👌🏻🕺🏼🕺🏼
Today I received my new road shoes. The ASICS Superblast 2 🤩
Plan: use them for a few weeks now to get used to them.
Then transition to use them for my road long runs and speed “quality” sessions (they are very well cushioned and still ok “fast” so they should be good for both). Then for my normal road runs I continue to use my ASICS Novablast 4.
(I don’t have super fast shoes)
