I gave up using Ryanair many many years ago after - amongst other things - it just added invented (ie IMO fraudulent) FX charges to a flight billed to my payment card. As it happens I spent enough time in (a) banking and (b) payment cards to be able to definitively verify that the extra charge was bogus. I try to not to do business with those that lie to me systematically.

WebP is one of the most efficient image CODECs I know for lossy and lossless. I use it on my site in place of JPEG and PNG where the client says it will accept WebP. RS for FEC is interesting. Again, there are probably newer more efficient codes, depending on the error types commonly encountered in SSTV TX!

Hurrah, it arrived, thank you! First time I've seen an SSTV frame though I've theoretically known about it for decades! What's the bandwidth and encoding?

I've had one or two egregious big-name AI scrapers stopped by my emailing some combination of PR and investor relations and explicitly withdrawing all implied rights of access and noting that any further visits at all will be unauthorised and illegal under the (UK) Computer Misuse Act as amended. That's a bit of sweeping statement!
Strorage has long played a part in grids, eg hydro, and 'efficiency' does not in practice matter if either your are not constrained on input, or cannot otherwise deal with (say) generation outage from plant trips or dunklefauten.
(In my research I'm trying to stop engineers fixating on a particular measure of efficiency in another sector, which is causing them to miss the savings in the bigger picture.)

And over the last couple of weeks with Patreon I have trimmed my memberships with them watching until they paid attention. So someone in marketing and/or IT got some direct negative feedback that cost real revenue until they stopped doing a bad annoying thing that probably violated UK and EU GDPR for all their members there. We do have some analogue levers to pull.

RyanAir lost me as a customer after my first journeys with them many many years ago, ripping me off with entirely ficticious FX charges (with some added irony attached), and I minimised my purchases from anther site the other day after dark patterns galore (including a 'now emotionally committed' one) just the other day. It may not be binary, but a self-inflicted war of attrition.

FWIW I don't do any of that stuff dynamically: I statically create alternate images for srcset (and alternative image types such as WEBP to serve to clients that can accept them). Thus there is near zero danger of my 1GB RPi3B running out of memory serving my sites.

If you have IMS and/or ETag and the feed hasn't changed and you do a GET with IMS / ETag then you won't be sent a body unless it has changed, and which point you actually want it? Or am I still being dense?

a somewhat fairer comparison would be dropping the the yearly lump in the middle of the year, else some of the difference is effectively the lost interest that you could have been earning on the cash even in a savings account. (Speaking as someone who spent many years working in the City on derivatives desks!)
