perpendicular question: how do we get the ️🐱 emoji? I ask because in France/français you can't say the word for female cat because it's mostly (and now only) used to refer to the vulva/vagina, but I don't know any other language where that works.

well, let me correct you. Yes, you as a user cannot load the module with `lsmod`, but the way the kernel has worked for many years, it will happily load it for you the moment some program you run, still as a user, requires some of its functionality, which is exactly what the exploit must be doing[1].

I have been suggested that the company I'm working is not doing well. Than and a push for AI is telling me it's maybe time to move on.

Linux "classical" distros come from a position where the soft available to them are pre curated by the companies and or communities building them, so the need for such things are no so pressing.
Andorid distros face applications that mostly not curated (except for 3rd party repos like f-droid, which are also pre curated by the communities), so they have other threat models. Personally, I find them too extreme, but currently is the best option on phones.

a Linux distro has a different threat model than an Android "distro".
This is exactly what people mean when they say that GrapheneOS people (and in particular this [official?] account in this case) are quite aggressive disparaging all the other ecosystems.
Don't get me wrong, I liked GrapheneOS while I had it (I had to return the Pixel device I was using it on), but I don't like this behavior.

I tried to see if I could provide some help with French, but I see some confusing things like `4Parking`. Any docs that mention what are these, and how exactly to translate? For instance, `ATM` can be translated as `Distributeur Automatique de Billets`, but everybody just call them "distributeur".

I almost started bashing (#python'ing?) my head against the desk because I only read this for the first time ever:

I started watching Simon Clark's YT videos a few weeks ago. This week he came up for a very thorough explanation (with sources) about how 95%+ clean energy is doable, mostly because dirty energy sources have lots of losses, and that we have actually provided a good chunk already (not far from 20%). Definitely worth a watch.

What to try #linux? Ask around, specially friends, what distro to try. Download a live CD and try it that way. If you have old HW sitting around, try installing there first. If not, try dual booting. Test the waters before you jump. If you get into any trouble, seek help from the distro's community; many have "instant chat" like IRC or others. Mastodon is possible, but it's slower because of the async'ty and pasting config files is awkward. Good luck!

I have the impression that the new file path pattern is forced by newer versions of #Android (or at least coercively suggested, #Google style). I have used A* on and off since 2009 and they way the platform went from a computer in your pocket to an appliance that hides all internals is clearly aimed to more public, but leaves us geeks scratching our heads.

Just switched to #KDE #KDE6 on #Debian sid while also nuking my 20yo config dir to start from afresh. Biggest surprise was that by default (???) it's magnified to 125%, so `systemsettings` -> Display & Monitor -> Scale -> 100%. Big thanks to both teams!

I might have mentioned several times that all logs will disappear in 15 days. Well, it's been 10 days, so I spent a good part of the morning trying to save the record. The apache logs was easy: made a semi-permanent copy on my desktop. #Mastodon record was more difficult. In the end I managed with the `mastodon.py` client and disabling 2FA, but boy was this a ride...

those tasks are empty packages that depend on many (all?) packages with i10n (and maybe l18n?) for those languages; and because there's the concept of manual vs automatic install: if you select such a task for install it becomes manual, but it dependencies are automatic. If you remove all manual packages that depend on an automatic package A, A is removed because it's considered no longer needed.

Made 6h+ on a car to come to Cervinia and try my luck at #aurora #photography. Will have to climb some 500m is the blue light to get to a good position. I wanted to rent an ebike or a hotel room, but it's all closed. Apparently nothing happens in autumm.
Meanwhile, coffee and picking food and hopin for clear skies and not to freeze to death. Good hunting!

what happens to the parts of the secondary waves that are not in the tangent? Are they lost? Do they interfere and cancel each other? Are they experienced from another point of view? If the light I see in the tangential wavefront is almost the same intensity of the original light, does it mean that the points in the secondary waves all have the same intensity? It seems I'm getting into territory way beyond what I 'know'.

seems like Huygens' explanation is also geometric. It goes from the wave aspect of light to a frozen wavefront where every point in it also emits a wavefront, and the combination of those are the wavefront we experience. That recursive explanation sounds fishy; again, I should read/watch about that Huygens' whatever (he never seem to say exactly what, just "according to Huygens"... what, a theory?).

let's go back to "how the reflection from each point on the mirror combines to give the angle of reflection". In the image and video says that each point where the original rays touch the mirror surface emits light in 'arcs' (bubbles, really), and it's the combined tangential wavefront that becomes the image we see. Bu it's taking a geometrical approach that in my head is equivalent of just saying "the angles are the same".

ok, assume I understand the Huygens whatever (will have to find a video about that). How does it apply to a dot light source? There's a whole circular reflection, but only a single reflection, if you know what I mean. Is it a matter of just taking the limit to a 0 with image?
It's been a long time since I could do it myself, mostly because of lack of time and of exercise. Maybe I should create a patreon account, send some money to Angela, and ask for a video :)
